I need some help with my plot TT the basic ideas is that it’s a modern fantasy world, with mythical creatures and humans living amongst each other. I want the story to be set around a witch character, named Oliver, who is a “tea witch” because he specializes in potions mixed with tea (so tea that heals someone, or relaxes them). I was sort of think of maybe a war that he gets involved in, but I’m not sure. Ideas ?
Do the humans know about the mythical creatures? The tea witch could be a charlatan - someone with good intentions but who knows that his mixtures aren't really magic. Until one day, he stumbles upon a mixture that DOES have magic properties, such that when he drinks it, the veil is lifted and he can now see the mythical world. Creatures living among us, hidden, appearing human. Most of them would be like us, just trying to get by, raise their families etc. But there would be some who are not so good. As a starting point, that's a bit like Grimm, but could be played with. Not sure how the Tea magic would fit in past that. Kind of a difficult talent to pull out in the midst of a fight (just hang on while I boil some water).
“Just hang on while I boil some water” that quote is gold. Literally the exact reason that this character should be in a fight scene.
But in all seriousness, this guy could have a tea shop and he overhears some disturbing war brewing (So that pun was accidential but I don’t regret it) foreshadowing from either some soldiers or someone on the Good Side™ Talking about some unruly monsters and stuff, and from there he gets dragged into it.
You could also have it where his friend or family member gets involved in the war but then goes missing? So he sets out to try and find them. In this case, he doesn't have to be physically fit, maybe he relies on his smarts more? He could make a truth tea or something, and trick someone into drinking it to learn information. Or maybe, in desperation, he makes a sort of compulsion like tea, so whoever drinks it has to do what he says or something, and he gives it to the roughest, toughest guy in town, forcing him to help him find his friend/family member? Then you could have a scene where the other guy is fighting/holding someone down and he asks your MC for help and he says, "Just hang on while I boil some water"? lol
Honestly I feel like the possibilities are endless.
I just realized that my description is that he overhears some TEA and gets dragged into a BREWING war… I could've had not one but two prime puns and I missed the opportunity
He could also be very self righteous and be the kind of person who feels the need to get involved in a war that's starting (that would be commonplace knoweledge probably) just for the heck of it
