I have a fantasy story in the making, and so far, this is what I've hammered out in concern to the plot:

The Characters:
Míla: Born Princess Amilaya of Volsk, after a military coup deposed her mother and father, she was married off to the son of the new king. She escaped (using magic that nobody knows about) on the night of her wedding and fled across the world and started a new life as a gambler.
Alwyn: Born in the uncolonized Northern Wastes, he thought that he would spend his life roughing it in one of the coldest environments in the world. An encounter with one of the monsters that live in the mountains there caused him to flee the Wastes and become a mercenary traveling along the coast of the western continent.
Kiran: Kiran left his homeland after members of his nomadic desert tribe stoned and nearly killed him for possessing magic, which their religion strictly forbids. He was banished to the coast where he finds work as a sword-for-hire and a sailor.
Nikhil: A natural and infamous thief born in the west, Nikhil grew up in poverty, raised by his ultra-religious mother from the south, who believes in only one god, which opposes the eastern and western religions that have four.
Sorcha: An enchantress from the far east, Sorcha is one of the few born with natural magical powers, however, her continued mercenary overuse of them is causing her to contract the blight, or "aether sickness," which is a blood sickness that causes hallucinations, delusions, and detachment from reality.

The plot:
These five people have been brought together by Crwys Gower, who is working as an intermediary for a wealthy person who wants to acquire "an object of political and religious significance". The object is The Sword of (Ruslan) the Betrayer. (Basically several hundred years ago, the eastern continent used to be ruled over by one king until a prince, supposedly with the help of a goddess, started a civil war for the throne. His sisters, supposedly with the help of a different goddess, defeated him and banished him and his supporters to a cold island to basically rot in hell. His sword is said to be imbued with the power of his patron goddess, Ruslana, goddess of winter, criminals, war, riches, and allegiance. The guy who wants it is the new king of Volsk (see above) because his rule is facing a few problems.) The long journey to the northern island where the sword is supposedly stashed will test the wills and patience of the adventures, and what they find on that cold island (Míla's jilted husband, Alwyn's ice monsters, situations in which Kiran must use his magic, situations in which Nikhil's faith is tested, and Sorcha's breaking point) will test their courage and devotion.

Bonus!!!
B plots will include: romance between Kiran and Nikhil, romance between Míla and her hubby, development of awesome friendship between the whole group,

Does anyone have any comments and suggestions? Please, I need some input!

@mckapo

I like it. I like your characters, seems there will be an interesting dynamic, (LOVE the inclusion of the romance between Nihkil and Kiran), I like the blight that the enchantress has, that sounds bad, but she sounds like she is powerful, and has a great weakness (:
The myth of the sword sounds well thought out.
Why are those five chosen?

@kat_i_am

It sounds v v good! I'd read this. Also, I second everything mckapo said. Why are these 5 chosen? What makes them special? What exactly are their skill sets? (actually, I get most of them except Mila's. I get why you'd want a mercenary, sailor/sword-for-hire, a thief, and an enchantress, but why a gambler?)
