I adore a good treasure hunt story, but it turns out they're a lot harder to write than I thought.

I want to those old-reliable story beats- Set in the 19th century, chasing the myth of a long lost ancient fortune, a series of cryptic clues-all the classics.
I know where I want to start and where I want to end, but I'm having a bit of trouble with the whole middle part. So please, tell me about some of your favorite treasure hunt stories!

Tell me your favorite cliches and tropes, no matter how unoriginal (and maybe the ones you could do without). And if you want, share any original ideas you've had or more rare elements that you've seen and enjoyed.

Or even better, if you've written one yourself, I'd love to hear it!

Even if you only have scraps of concepts you've been saving for a rainy day. I'd love to steal your ideas.
