I'm trying to have the players in my DnD session to start off in a dream but them not know it, i want to be bale to give them hints to figure it out i just dont know any that wont just outright make it obvious. any help?

Make things a specific color scheme. Some people only dream in black and white, so you could make any foe they meet fit that standard. Or have any color scheme, but stick to it beyond what would be normal for the real world.
Screw the odds. Make weird things happen. Not too weird, but just odd. Hits randomly are critical or miss entirely. A physical attack somehow does magical damage. People are much more suggestible. Etc.
