Hey y'all! So I tend to have trouble motivating myself to sit down and write. I have a plot-line that I'm really excited about, but I don't want to just leave it and never go back. Do y'all have any good tips on how I can keep myself motivated? Thanks a lot.

I try to sit down and write a sentence a day, which usually turns into a scene or a paragraph….. Maybe we can try to keep each other motivated, I can take a look at what you have so far and we can do weekly critiques on each other's story.

Your story sounds really good so far, but I think you should try to introduce the characters (especially Duncan) a little better. Maybe some kind of internal monologue while he is hammering the metal or walking home? Like 'While heating and hammering, he let his mind wander. He started thinking about…' Siblings, parents, Lexi, Floireans, the meeting, relationships with parents/siblings/significant others, anything to shed a light on his personality and backstory. Maybe a conversation with Lexi to shed more light on his backstory? He seems to have some positive relationship with her, so he could tell her about the meeting, so she offers for him to stay at her house while his mom is at the meeting. Also, what is the meeting? Saying what it is can say a lot about their social standing, the world they live in, and just set the scene in general. (character question- Is Lexi one of those old ladies who are basically Hagrid? Can't bake, is too nice, their house always smells like lemons, and people are nice but don't really like her? Or is she more like the grandmother from Moana who is really nice and likable and understanding?) Do Duncan and his Mom not have a positive relationship? (Character Questions- is Duncan's Mom the typical business savvy rich lady who lives in a mansion and the meeting is a business conference? Does she not spend time with Duncan? Or does she have a really low-paying job and works all day? What kind of Mom is she? The kind who tries too hard? The one who doesn't care? Is she a Petunia Dursley who doesn't care but is nice in public to preserve her social standing?) Also, what happened to his dad? Duncan being dragged to the meeting seems to imply that something happened to him…. maybe that can be a reason for one of Duncan's personality traits? Did he die in a war? Did he die from an accident? Did he go end up running away? Does his missing dad have to do with Duncan's relationship with his Mom? I know it's long, but I hope this helps!
