"Yeah…. It calms me down"
She said as she fire grew. It was very controlled, shining off of her face. The light breeze was just enough the blow the smoke away from their face. Her green eyes seemed to be staring into the soul of the flame.
He nodded. He looked down at his fingers. The black stain went all the way to his knuckles, and he cursed under his breath.
Looking back at him, he looked…. Unusual.
"Something wrong?"
She says worryingly.
Troy shrugged, and held up his hands. "Sort of…" He said slowly. "It's just the after effects of saving you. I'm not supposed to interfere with people's deaths. Or prevent them."
Standing up suddenly,
"What?! Why did you save me then?!"
She said a little angrily. Why couldn't she just die? Why did he save her? Why was he so stupid!?!? He just met her, so why?…
He raised his eyebrows. "Would you rather have died?" He asked slowly. "And besides, it'll fade." He shrugged slightly. "It's just a little thing, because your death wasn't guaranteed. Now, had I saved you from a certain death, my punishment would be far worse." He explained calmly.
"Wait… So are you hurt?"
She said sitting down grabbing his hand.
He winced slightly. "Don't…touch the black part, and I'll be fine." He responded to her.
"What'll happen if i do?"
She asks still holding his hand, careful not to touch the black.
"Pain." He replied simply. "I could lose the use of that finger for a while." He shrugged.
"oh…. i thought you would die or something."
She says letting go of his hand. She didnt want to, but she was afraid she would hurt him.
"can i do this?"
She said putting her head on his shoulder. It was getting dark, today felt as if it had gone by in just a few hours. But she slept pretty late, going out pretty late to. You could hear the cricket sounding in the brush. She was tired.
He chuckled softly. "No, I won't die." He replied, looking down at her. "…yeah, you can do that." He said softly. He slowly put an arm around her shoulders, loose enough that she could push his arm away if she wanted to.
"im sorry….."
She said still quietly. It felt nice to be held.
She hadnt been held for such a long time.
But She wasnt about going to start crying again.
It was a little hard though. It felt so nostalgic.
She didnt realize that she actually liked having company. Somebody to be around.
She was happy to have someone. Although he was going to leave her anyway.
He was the Grimm Reaper after all. Whats he doing with her?
"For what?" He asked, glancing down at hed again. He hadn't realized…how lonely he had been. How long it had been since he had had a conversation with anyone other than the spirits of the dead. Hadn't realized…so many things. He sighed softly.
"well… for having you save me. I was stupid. I should have left. You didnt have to save me….. but….."
She said her eyes fluttering shut.
"i wanna know why you did it."
He took a deep breath. "Well… I'm not actually sure." He replied slowly. "I just…did." he shrugged slightly.
"okay….. "
She says in a whisper.
"ill figure out later then."
She said as her eyes shut….. falling asleep. Her neck bending in what looks like a painful way, but she fell asleep easily.
He adjusted her head gently, but let her sleep, watching the fire. His grey eyes reflected the flickering flames, and he remained silent, letting her sleep.
Her limp body felt wierd. It felt different, maybe it wasnt used to another body with her. She had been alone for her whole life.
Her head falling into his lap, her hair fell into her face as her head fell. His long eyelashes were soaked from her tears.
Her eyes still watery as she slept. Her cheeks were red from the heat.
Not sure what exactly he was doing, he gently brushed her hair out of her face, letting her sleep there. He hesitated, then leaned back against the tree behind him, closing his eyes. Maybe he could sleep.
where was she? Was she dreaming?
She was with her little brother. Playing in the fields of tall grass. They had a dog. Running right in front of them.
They were all so happy.
yeah, it was definitely a dream
"when will you be happy again May?"
Her brother asked her as she sat in a corner. The dog resting its head on her lap.
Her brother was standing in front of her tossing a rock up and down.
A scream from the other end of the house then a thud.
Curling up into a tighter ball, the little girl started sobbing.
She knew what was going on. So did her brother.
But this…was a memory.
Troy kept his eyes closed, slowly starting to fall asleep. It was an unfamiliar sensation now. He hadn't slept in…so long. Since the trials. Since he had experienced each and every afterlife under the direction of his teacher. He had rejoiced in heaven. He had burned and screamed and been tortured in hell. He had experienced each and every afterlife there was. He had known pain that he didn't even know existed.
after a long while, waking up with a jolt. The fire had been blown out. It was cold and windy.
Looking up, planning to look at thy sky, she saw his face. Again…. it wasn't a dream.
"and I thought you couldn't sleep"
She whispers to him, even though he probably couldn't even hear her.
Troy was asleep, for the first time in years. His eyebrows were drawn together slightly, and his face looked drawn.
"B-but sir, is it necessary?" He asked, looking down at the pit before them.
"Of course it is, Troy. Or do you want to go back to the human world? Do you want them to beat you again? Do you want to go to prison for what you've done? No? Then do as I say." Replied the man training him, the current Grim Reaper.
Troy looked down at the pit again. He was young at this point; fifteen or sixteen. "Yes sir."
Sitting up, she looks at him. Even in the darkness, she could see his face. It was beautiful, he looked peaceful.
All if the other times he looked annoyed with her.
Slowly reaching up, she touches his face with her hand. It was soft. His cheek was cold. slowly, her hand moving up to his silky black hair, running through it.
"Wow…. Youre beautiful."
she whispered, couldn't help but smile a little bit.
He twitched slightly, but didn't awaken.
The dream changed.
This time, it was nonsensical. Just a bunch of unrelated images stitched together into a hellscape of memories. Heaven, hell, Earth. Spirits. His family. Maylynn? What was she doing in his dream?
Looking at his face more, when he twitched, she jumped back a little bit, but touched his face once more. She didn't get to see attractive people anymore. So let alone this severely attractive man.
"Thank you…. And i know ive said it before, but i feel as if that's not enough. What can i do for you?"
She says as she takes her hand away from his face, scooting closer, leaning back on his should. This time not in an awkward position.
Troy's eyes flickered open, and he blinked, rubbing his eyes with a hand. "That was interesting." He muttered to himself. He shifted, glancing at Maylynn for a moment.
Looking up a him, her face turned red as she got off of his shoulder
"Sorry, i-im just a little tired".
she said looking down at the now burnt out fire.
He looked at her. "Hmm? No, it's fine." He said, rubbing his eyes still.
