@Icefire, here we go! :)
Eretien was the city of gods. The city of magic. It was prosperous, successful, and, unbeknownst to everyone except for a small group of mostly invisible witches and wizards, alive. Only there was a threat to it, one that lay far below the cobbled streets and shining university. The city of Eretien was dying. And it seemed only Garnet knew. Well, Garnet and all his various adopted grandparents. But seeing that they were the mostly invisible witches and wizards, they couldn't really do much about it. Garnet could. At least, he could if the so-called Golden Child of Eretien stopped getting in his way.

Should I be starting another rp? No. Will I be? Yes. Is it because I have an absolutely ridiculous setting that I need to do something with or I will combust? …Yes.

Anyway, this is just a really fun rp/loosely guided tour through the city of Eretien, where we will hopefully meet at least one of the gods I've advertised (if we didn't, that would be a little awkward, don't you think?). The basic plot (which can be modified, added on to, etc at any time by anyone) is that there's this guy named Garnet (my character) who can see and talk to a bunch of things that no one else can thanks to reasons which will be revealed at a later date, and he's trying to stop his city from dying. Enter Golden Child (your character) who is a magic student at the Academy and is also trying to figure out why the city is dying. They bump into each other one day, realize they have a goal in common, and decide to work together. Chaos ensues.

Rules 'n Stuff:

  • The setting is as such: normal tech has just created the first car, and magic is used for almost everything else. It's kind of loose, so just go for it.
  • There is magic, and there are two kinds: Modern Magic, which requires special stones and is quite strict on what you must do to cast a spell, and Old Magic, which involves drawing the magic out of nature or some other highly magical entity (like, say, a living city). Old Magic has all but died out, mostly because no one is living in the magical wilds anymore, and also no one knows that the city is alive.
  • Your character will be using Modern Magic, the rules of which are up to you.
  • This can be romance if you wish it to be. I'm cool with it either way. If it is romance, it will be mlm or nblm.
  • If you have any suggestions and/or questions about the plot and/or setting, just let me know! I want this to be fun for both of us.
  • This will be super chill, so replies don't have to be super quick. If you need to take a break or will be gone for a long period of time, just tell me. I will understand. :)
  • Ask before you join! Thanks! :)

(basically, your character is the child of a powerful family of Eretien (basically nobility) and is also the best student of magic at the Academy, the university in Eretien.)

@MarDeColores this is not it kids

Full Name: Garnet
Nicknames (if any): none
Age: 19 years old
Gender/Pronouns: Male, he/him
Sexuality: Queer. He hasn't really thought about it that much.
Appearance: 5'3" and very skinny. He's all angles and sharp edges. Light brown skin with dark freckles. Wavy, shoulder-length auburn hair. He usually keeps it down, though if he's doing that requires a lot of attention he'll pull it up in a little ponytail. Dark purple eyes. Usually wears a shirt, a worn jacket and pants, and boots that look like they're seconds away from disintegrating.
Identifying Marks: Very dark freckles all over his face, shoulders, and back. A birthmark in the shape of a tree on his left shoulder.
Personality: He's generally pretty chill. He knows what he knows and he's solid in that. He doesn't care what people think of him that much, though he always tries to let them know exactly who and what he is if they outright say something wrong. He's generally a very friendly person unless someone's done something to annoy him, in which case he'll be sarcastic. He doesn't enjoy being mean, and will only be aggressive if someone was aggressive to him first, and even then it will only happen if it's his last resort.
Likes: Talking to the old people, glass butterflies, summer, roaming the streets.
Dislikes: People calling him names, rain, the merchant sector, stealing things.
Talents: Pretty good at running. Has an absolutely amazing memory almost to the point of it being photographic. Amazing whistler.
Magic Possessed: He learned a lot of Old magic, such as how to make charms and brew potions and all that. He was also taught offensive spells, though he doesn't use them much because he doesn't really want to. His magic is controlled by gestures and whistles.
Preferred Weapon: Magic, if he has to fight someone.
Brief backstory: He was born as Graceson Luiza, the first-born of the Luiza family, the current ruling family of Eretien. Unfortunately for him, the political rival of Kellen, his father and the newest ruler of Eretien, was very bitter about losing and kidnapped him when he was less than a year old. The rival dumped him on the docks, thinking that he would die quickly. He did not, as a group of unseen wizards and witches known as the Gang of Greg found him. The leader, aptly named Greg, called a meeting of all the wizards and witches of Eretien to decide what to do with him, as they'd never had this problem before. After a lot of debating, it was decided that no one person would take care of him. Instead, they would all pitch in. Garnet grew up seeped in magic and as a result, was able to permanently see the wizards and witches, as well as talk to the glass butterflies that lived all around Eretien. It was a rather interesting childhood, but he turned out fine in the end.
Other: He can talk to glass butterflies, who generally tell him completely useless secrets. Only rarely will they actually say something useful. He's given them all names based on the colors of their wings.

(Ah makes sense makes sense. Thanks!)
(Also Garnet is adorable, I love him already)

@ElderGod-Icefire

(ahhhh i feel like a terrible person for not getting up the sheet today like i promised but I was busy, I'm so so sorry and I'll do my best to get one up tomorrow ;-; )
(I have a question to ask you tho: what if the "Golden Child" waaaaas? fake? like a golem/magical android but no one knows he/they is fake? Does that work? or nah?)

@MarDeColores this is not it kids

(You're fine, friend! And, I mean… it probably would work? It would be really interesting, to say the least. You know what, go for it. :)

@ElderGod-Icefire

(this is…not the best job I've ever done at filling out a sheet, I'm really sorry)

Full Name: Romeo Beaumont Heath
Nicknames (if any): Ro
Age: 20
Gender/Pronouns: Male, he/him
Sexuality: Gay(?) Probably
Appearance: Ro stands at 5'11", with a broad shoulders and a solid, muscular build. He has light olive skin and curly black hair, and warm hazel eyes. His face is angular, with sharp cheekbones and a defined jaw. Basically, he's…he's handsome, and he knows it too. There is a scar, though, that arches from just above his left eyebrow to just below the left side of his lip, which marrs his features a little bit. His ears are pierced as well, and he usually wears studs in them. Also has a massive scar over his heart (more on that later).
Identifying Marks: The scars
Personality: Ro is usually a pretty decent guy, but he can definitely come across as a dick. He's handsome and very talented and knows it, and has secrets to protect, and those three things combined can make him seem like a massive dick to people. He does his best not to be, though. (I'm bad at describing personalities, and also the following three sections ;-;)
Likes: Being warm (but not hot). Magic.
Dislikes: Being hot or cold. Water.
Talents: Singing. Magic? Leadership?
Magic Possessed: New Magic
Preferred Weapon: Either a revolver or his magic (or a combo)
Brief backstory: Romeo Heath was once a real person; the Heaths are an affluent noble family, and Romeo was their only son. At 13, he was in a terrible accident and died soon after. The Heaths hid this death, and Josef Heath, Romeo's father and also a highly skilled mage, created Ro, who is actually a golem powered by magic. The scar over his heart is where Josef implanted a crystal to bring the golem body to life. The scar on Ro's face was made when he was, as the supposed result of the accident. Romeo was buried in secret, and Ro was installed in his place. He is well aware of his status as "lesser", as Josef and Marie Heath constantly remind him that he is not their "real" son, and merely a lesser replacement version.
Other: Terrified of being found out

(You're totally fine! Filling out character sheets can be tricky sometimes. I'll get the starter up as soon as I can. :)

Garnet was hanging out near the Acadamy. It wasn't by choice, of course. He rather disliked the Acadamy, since it had done such a good job of wiping out all mentions of witches, wizards, Old Magic, and the like. Unfortunately, this was one of the spots where Mabel liked to hang out. She wasn't in any of her other usual haunts, so she had to be here. It was just his luck she was the only one who could help him at the moment. Garnet carefully looked around, trying not to seem too suspicious. He was in the merchant sector, which was his least favorite part of the city for the sole reason that people acted 100% more suspicious of him there. He guessed it was because they thought he was going to steal something. Or maybe it was because of his reputation as the madman of Eretien. The one who talked to thin air and glass butterflies. He was fine with being known like that–he wasn't going to stop doing it, that was for sure–but it was slightly annoying.
"Garnet! What brings you down here?" He turned to see an old woman with a cane speeding towards him with a huge smile on her face.
"Hey, Mabel! Ruby said something really weird, and I thought you might be able to help." Garnet pushed off the wall and started towards her.
"Oh? What'd it say?" She asked, smile starting to dim. He hated to visit her with bad news, but it had to be done.
"Something's growing in the cracks of the city," He repeated. The words still gave him the chills, even though it had been over an hour since he'd first heard them. "Do you know what that means?"
"Hmm…" Mabel tapped her chin thoughtfully. "You know what, I think I might. You see, me and some of the people from the Gang of Greg have been noticing this really weird mold starting to appear in some of the less trafficked areas of the city. We think…" she trailed off, eyes darkening slightly. "We think it may be signs that the city is dying."
"The city is dying?" Garnet exclaimed, probably a lot louder than he needed to. In his defense, the news surprised him. He knew the city was alive–that was the only reason he could do magic–but the fact that it could die too? He didn't know what to do with that information.

@ElderGod-Icefire

Ro had just finished up his classes for the day, and was going to head home. His bag was slung over one of his shoulders, and he exited the building. He was tired, and wanted to just go home and rest, but he knew Josef and Marie would have chores and tasks for him to do. He was never able to refuse Josef; it was part of being a golem. He had to do as his maker commanded, whether or not he wanted to. So when Josef said to do something, he did it. Even if he was exhausted and worn out. Luckily, he wasn't feeling too tired today; there had been days in the past, though, where he had been so exhausted that his skin had turned to a greyish hue because it was drying out. As a golem, he was originally created of earth and clay. If he got too wet, he would begin to fall apart. If he got too dry, he began to disintegrate. It was a slow process, and subtle in its beginning stages, but it was annoying. If he got too hot or too cold, his fingers began to crack. While he looked like a normal person due to the magic of his creation, there were little tell-tale signs if he did not take care of his outer shell. The cracking, the disintegration, the way his skin grew almost too soft in the water. So he never let anyone close. He couldn't let them find out what he was, or everything would change, and not for the better.

So when he saw the city's resident madman outside the school, he was tempted to ignore it and keep walking. Not his business, not his job. But then he heard Garnet yell about the city dying, and he paused, watching the young man as he spoke to thin air.

"Yeah, why don't you tell everyone, huh?" Mabel rolled her eyes. "This isn't for sure. We don't know for sure. So for now, let's just act as normal, alright?" She tilted her head slightly, looking at Garnet for confirmation. He nodded slowly.
"Fine. But then why did you say it like that in the first place? You scared me." Garnet glared at Mabel.
"I didn't say it wasn't true. I just said it might be false." Mabel shrugged in the most infuriating way possible. He loved her, he really did, but she could be so annoying sometimes.
"Wow, that's such a big help." Garnet crossed his arms.
"In my defense, I don't know much. Greg knows more, you should go talk with him." Mabel nodded in the general direction of the docks. "Thanks for letting me know about this, but I have to go. I have a tea date with Annie." With that, Mabel turned and started walking away. "Good luck with Greg!"
"Thanks, I guess!" Garnet called after her, letting out a defeated sigh. He'd come here, hoping to clarify something, and ended up so much more confused. Garnet turned to see a small group of people staring at him, including a handsome young man–probably from the Acadamy. Wonderful. "Can you all move along?" He waved for them to disperse. "I'm sure you've seen this before, so shoo."

Ro crossed his arms, sorely tempted to just go home. He would have so much work to do, and it would be better to just get an early start on it. But. This young man talking to the air sparked his curiosity, so while the rest of the crowd began to leave, he stayed put, eyes fastened on the madman who, only moments ago, had been having a very animated conversation with the air.

@MarDeColores this is not it kids

Garnet let out a long breath as the crowd started to leave. Except not everyone was leaving. That handsome man was still there, and he didn't look like he was going to be leaving.
"What do you want?" Garnet asked, turning to face him. "I said the show was over." He made one last shooing motion and turned, starting to walk in the direction of the docks. Hopefully, the man would leave him alone. He didn't want to deal with someone following him.

@ElderGod-Icefire

Ro took a deep breath, then began to follow Garnet. "Who were you…talking to?" he almost said "think you were talking to", but figured it wouldn't go over very well with this young man. Madman or not, most madmen did not like being called out on their delusions, no matter how strange it seemed to an outsider. Besides, he was curious and did not want to go home just yet.

@MarDeColores this is not it kids

At least he didn't say something like, 'what's the voice in your head called'. It could be worse.
"Mabel. She's really a lovely old woman. A little infuriating sometimes, but she's usually pretty great," Garnet explained, glancing over his shoulder. "Terrifying wizard–and before you say something like, 'wizards aren't real' or 'wizards don't exist anymore', yes they do. All those Modern Magic-users like to pretend we don't, but we do." Garnet sighed, getting ready for an attempt to dispute or mock everything he just said. It happened most of the time when he tried to explain anything to other people.
