@KalamariCakes

You're six years old. Your brother is eight. As children in the poor latino neighborhoods of urban Chicago—as white kids nonetheless, and stressed out parents with cliché Daddy issues, life feels impossible. But you still have dreams of a better life…

Open!!

@Fraust

Name: Lucas Whitaker
Gender: Male
Age: Six
Personality: Pretty much a huge coward. He depends on his older brother for almost everything since he'd trust him with his life. Besides his brother, he has bad trust issues and is very very quiet (he doesn't like to talk to strangers). He gets startled easily and is particularly afraid of men.
Appearance: Fluffy, long blonde hair spiked smoothly up in the front, big baby blue eyes, pale with freckles. He likes to wear a red and yellow striped shirt or an oversized hoodie over jeans or jean shorts.
Other: Likes cuddles and dogs

@KalamariCakes

Name: Jonas Whitaker
Gender: M
Age: 8
Personality: much like his brother, his confidence is pretty botched. But he's learned that in times of violence or crisis, he has no choice but to protect, and has become used to it. Has a bit of a separation anxiety for his little brother.
Appearance: Confusingly, has black hair, like their mother. Makes people question the brother's genetic relation. However, he shares the same eyes, freckles, and complexion. Hair is fluffy as well. Prefers brightly colored clothes, or ones that feature animals.

Jonah sat on the edge of his bed, watching the storm through their curtainless window. He and his brother shared a room, their twin beds separated by a small bedside table, which had been the terretorial subject of several bickers.
He hugged a worn, stuffed dog in his arms. While he hated thunderstorms, it was easier to cope when the door was closed and he wasn't alone. He could never sleep with the door open, he'd feel too exposed.

@Fraust

Lucas sat beside Jonas, flinching whenever there was thunder. He could hear his parents' muffled fighting from a couple rooms over and whimpered a bit, leaning against his brother. He just wished their parents wouldn't fight and the storms would stop. Maybe if their parents stopped their fighting, their father wouldn't be mean to them anymore.

@Fraust

"Okay…" Lucas gently held the dog. He knew it meant a lot to Jonas, so he was always careful with it. "W-When do you think it'll be over?"

@KalamariCakes

"I don't know," he answered honestly, he rubbed his arms as if he was cold. "I hope soon," he looked out the window again. Dark outside, and darker inside. Their night-light broke last night and the dark was too thick to sleep in it alone.

@Fraust

Lucas looked over at the door as he heard something in their parents' room break. Of course, by asking when it would be over, he'd meant this fighting as well.

@KalamariCakes

Jonah curled his arms around his brother in a hug. Both for his own comfort, and for Lucas's. "Choose… Choose a story, I'll read it to you," he murmured.

@Fraust

"Alright…" Lucas had always liked Jonas to read to him. They couldn't afford to go to school, so he still couldn't read on his own. He could recognize a few words, like his name and Jonas's, but was illiterate otherwise. He picked up Peter Pan from the shelf and sat back beside Jonas.

@Fraust

Lucas nodded and moved a little closer to Jonas so he could see the book. He tried to pick out any words he could read, but he couldn't really see anything other than two or three letter words.

@Fraust

Lucas yawned a bit, following the words with his eyes to try and learn what they meant. "We should run away with Peter Pan." He said softly, running his fingers along a picture of Peter Pan and the lost boys.

Jonah looked over to his brother. "Yeah, I wish," he sighed, looking to the window. "Ita raining too hard right now anyway,"
