Elliot Hart was lucky to have a house at the age of twenty-six, well, almost. Most people his age were still stuck in crappy apartments with multiple roommates or they were settling down with their partners, rushing into a relationship and tying the knot as soon as possible, only to divorce a few years later. Now, Elliot only had the house due to a stuck of misfortune, his parents passing away at the ripe age of him turning twenty-one. The house had been left to him. He had spent the first year or so in a deep depression. He was surrounded by memories of his family. He had come to enjoy it now. He was happy to be living in his family's home. But he was lonely. He lived all by himself. No roommates, no friendly neighbors. He had debated inviting a couple of his friends to live with him but it felt like an invasion of his family's memories. Besides, most of his friends lived with their partners or they had roommates of their own.
He was happy enough with his life. He felt stuck in repetition. Wake up, go to work, come home, maybe eat, go to sleep, do it again. He worked as a bartender at the town's bar. Not the only bar but the biggest and most popular. He made decent money working there full-time. He had gotten a degree in education a couple of years back but hadn't been able to secure himself a job in that field. So he was stuck bartending. Sometimes he had to work fifty hours or more a week to keep the electricity on and the water running, much less buy groceries. Thankfully the house had already been paid off but he had a school debt to pay off as well, as well as his car payment. It was hard to make ends meet sometimes but he made the best of it.
He always kept a smile on his face and tried his best to have a good attitude. He wasn't quick to anger. He had an open heart and open mind. However, when there were loud noises and banging outside at seven in the morning when Elliot was just trying to sleep after his ten-hour shift at the bar, no break, and he hadn't gotten home until almost four a.m., it quite irritated him. He was a heavy sleeper, so if there was a noise waking him up, they were being ungodly loud.
He pulled a pillow over his head, trying to block out the noise to no avail. With a groan, he kicked the blanket off of him and trudged out of bed in nothing but his pajama pants. He had a lean figure, smaller than most men his size. It was likely due to his lack of proper nutrition and his alcohol consumption. There was really only one way to deal with a hard shift at a bar. Alcohol. His skin was a pale color, he wasn't out in the sun often. He had curly, dark brown hair that was in desperate need of a haircut. He had pretty blue eyes and sharp facial features.
He stumbled out of the front door, squinting at the bright sun. It took a moment for his eyes to focus. Moving truck. There was a moving truck. Moving things into the vacant house next-door. That house had been vacant for almost half a year. And now someone was moving there.

Julian Marcus had a pretty average forty-year-old man schedule; he went to work, picked up his kid from middle school, made her dinner, helped with her homework, then promptly passed out. However, today was moving day, which meant all of his normal routines were thrown out the window in order to get all the boxes out of their shitty apartment and into a truck, then into the new house. It also meant that he had to wake his poor daughter up at the crack of ass to get her to help him.

It took a while, but finally, everything was in the truck and they were to the new house. It had taken him a while to save up for this place, but now that he was looking at it, it was worth it. His daughter would feel right at home here, which meant that in the end, everything would be fine. However, at the moment, his daughter was running around the front lawn, being no help to him trying to get everything out of the truck.

"ROSA BELLA MARCUS GET YOUR ASS OVER HERE RIGHT NOW!" Julian shouted, hands on his hips as he watched his girl come scampering back with an apologetic smile on her face.

"I'm sorry papa…" Rosa trailed off, looking away before Julian leaned down and pressed a kiss to her forehead.

"It's alright Mija, we just need to get everything in the house before we can have loads of fun."

Elliot supposed it was a bit scandalous to be standing on his front lawn in nothing but pajam pants. He hadn't even worn underwear under his pajamas. There was no need to when he went to bed. It was miracle he even put on pants before he went to bed, he was so exhausted. Saturday night's were always their busiest, and because of that, he didn't get a break or even time to eat, and he didn't arrive home until late in the night. And he was anything but a morning person. So while he was genuinely a happy person, anyone waking him from his slumber would feel his wrath.
If he was in his right mind, he would have turned around and walked right back inside, especially because there was a young girl outside, likely his new neighbors daughter it looked like. But he wasn't in his right mind. He was tired and irritated from being woken. So he strode across the driveway and unto the yard of his new neighbor.
"It is seven a.m. on a Sunday morning. Do you mind keeping things down for those of us trying to sleep in?" Elliot snipped. He had circles under his eyes, only showing how little sleep he had gotten. He rubbed at his eyes, trying to rub the sleep out of them and let his eyes focus.
He opened his mouth to say something again, only to stop short as he saw his neighbor. He was attractive. Like really attractive. And morning wood was hitting him like a truck. With nothing to tuck him, he stood proudly, causing Elliot to flush red.

Julian laughed sheepishly and pat his daughter on the head as he moved to stand in front of her, blocking most of her view of the new man. "Sorry man, the little one can be a bit rambunctious when we've been cooped up in a truck for the past few hours, we'll keep it down so you can head back to sleep." He smiled, taking a quick gaze down the man, trying to just observe him before he saw the… pants situation and flushed red as well, quickly turning Rosa back to face the truck and told her to go get some of her boxes for her room.

It was too late at that point. Elliot was awake. It was unlikely he would fall back asleep for a couple hours at least. He had work at two later in the afternoon. Hopefully he wouldn't close but it would depend on how much money he made during his shift if he would decide to stay later.
Who travels so early in the morning?
He pressed his palms into his eyes, rubbing the sleep further out of them. He willed for his morning wood to go down but there was only so much he could do. His body reacted on its own.
He watched the little girl walk away and turned back to the older man in front of him. God he was so gay. He couldn't help but subtly check him out. Which was doing nothing for his morning wood. "It's a bit early to be moving. Where are you coming from?"

Julian tore his eyes away from the other's situation, meeting his eyes. "Oh! We're coming from Rosewood, the city over!" He cheerfully informed, nodding. "The school district is better here, plus more room and such," Julian explained before shoving out his hand and smiling. "I'm Julian Marcus and my kid over there is Rosa Bella, but everyone just calls her Rosa. It's nice to meet you."

@ElderGod-yellowqueen

Elliot looked down at his hand for a moment before extending his own to give it a shake. "Elliot Hart. I'd return the sentiments but it's a bit too early in the morning for that."
He didn't see a wedding ring. It made his heart jump and unfortunately something else. He looked around. "Where's the mother? If you don't mind me asking."

Julian coughed a little, looking back to where Rosa was before glancing back at Elliot. "She's…" How could he put this? "Out of the picture." He decided on. "Has been since Rosa was two." His smile looked a bit pained if you looked close enough, but once he took another look back to his daughter, it brightened considerably.

Elliot nodded and scratched the back of his head. He hadn't meant to step into uncomfortable territory but at least mow he knew he was single. Or at least not married. Not everyone likes dudes, Elliot. Stop it.
"I'm sorry. Must be hard." He couldn't imagine what it was like to only have one parents. His parents were together even in the end. They had great love for each other and gave a great example of what love should look like. He only hoped to have a relationship like theirs.
"What caused you to move here?"

@Nicolo_Needs_A_Nap Podcast Nerd™

"Oh yes! Like I said earlier, the school districts here are much better, plus I got offered a much higher paying job here than was even available in Rosewood." Julian hummed, happy to be out of the topic of his wife, or well, ex-wife. She had left early on when Rosa started displaying symptoms of autism and learning disabilities.

Elliot nodded his head, his curly hair bouncing at the movement and hair falling in his eyes. He swept it out of the way, wincing as he ran into a tangle.
He wondered how far he could take the conversation without being creepy. Or getting the cops called in him for human indecency. He would push as far as he could. He hadn't been laid in weeks. Or had it been over a month? There was nothing wrong with some harmless banter, perhaps even flirty. "Whats the job?"

Julian's eyes lit up, hands flapping as he got prepared to talk about something he loved. "I'm an Art History professor at the local university! I also do some small things around the museum in the next town over as a checker of the authenticity of pieces!" He rambled, flushing red when he realized he was doing so, coughing a little. "Sorry, I'm really passionate about my job. You know what they say; If you do what you love, you'll never work a day in your life."

@ElderGod-yellowqueen

Elliot nodded his head. Must be nice, being able to get a job in your degree. Five years down the drain working and going to school and I'm still stuck here bartending almost every night. He said none of this out loud of course. It wasn't his fault Elliot hadn't succeeded. Truth be told, he had given up a long time ago on applying for jobs. He was under qualified, he was over qualified, he had no experience, he had too much experience. Bartending was so much easier. Restaurants and bars pretty much hired everyone. It was a guaranteed job. "It's good your passionate. Teachers should be passionate about the subject they're teaching or they shouldn't be teachers."
