hm, if it's ok with you, i think, like Lori, I prefer the second one (Character A is an underwater photographer who’s taking pictures of coral reef for a SAVE THE REEF protest, when they spot Character B, a mermaid, watching Character A with rapt interest.) tbh but if you want to mix it up (I'm fine playing either character) I could play character b.

@saor_illust school

ah that's fine and of course! it will be interesting to roleplay as a mermaid lol, i've never done that before i'll get my character template up in a bit

@saor_illust school

(If so, then here's my character template)

name: mira [unknown last name]
nickname(s): mir, m
gender: female
appearance: long tail length flowy smooth dark grey hair, it's pinned back so that it's out of her way with a circle of black flowers (see reference here) and the shape of her black tail is that of the last tail in this reference and dark brown eyes that look black.
personality: she longs for a new life, that of a mermaid. of course, she wouldn't want to change anything about herself, besides the fact that she is a siren. she loves to swim and sing, though she has to be careful about when she sings. she also finds humans quite interesting for some reason, and doesn't always choose to lure them to their deaths when she has an opportune chance. her favorite color is black. oh yeah, did i forget to mention that she collects the skulls of her dead victims?
other details: her favorite quote is "A Siren's song is made from the tears of heartbroken lovers. That is why the lustful and the wicked are drawn to her call. Her voice echoes the pain and the sadness that their blackened souls yearn for." and she likes to recite it whenever given the opportunity

(oh, yeah it can be whatever!!)
name: helene vesperia
nickname(s): n/a
gender: female
appearance: her hair is dark red, and she normally wears it up to keep it out of her face while she works. her skin is normally pale, but with all the time she’s spent in the water, it’s tanned a bit. she also has freckles all over her face and arms. her eyes are dark green.
personality: overall, she’s pretty reserved. she likes to work alone as she doesn’t know many others in her field. helene is soft spoken, and even then she doesn’t speak too much outside of presentations and the like. she is extremely passionate about the ocean and its safety, and it’s one of the few things she can actually get heated about. her curiosity and desire for knowledge gets the best of her sometimes and gets her into trouble.
other details: —

(also, just for clarity, what time zone are you in? i’m in est)

@saor_illust school

(oh yeah i have a question - so is it gonna be a thing where the mermaid/siren can go on land with like legs or the thing where it technically can go on land but with a tail so it's really hard?)

@thelogicofkings

(yep, hope this is ok!)
Helene was glad to be out on the water again. It had been a while since she’d been able to come out, what with all the classes she was taking and presentations she had to get together. She felt at home, really. As she lay her equipment down on the empty beach with an associate of hers, she could basically feel the cobalt surface call out to her.

She walked to the surf, small waves crashing lightly against the sand. Camera in hand, she adjusted the mask on her head and checked to make sure she had the appropriate amounts of oxygen and whatnot. Helene turned around to give a thumbs up to the other person on the beach before making her way into deeper waters.

The sight she was met with made her frown. Coral that had once been vivid and lively had turned stark white. Yet another area affected by the bleaching. She shook her head before turning the camera on and taking testing shots. Her eyes occasionally caught movement around the reef. Small fish darted this way and that in search of the scarce supply of food that was left.

Helene could have sworn she had seen a larger, darker presence a few times, but whenever she turned to look, empty ocean stared back at her. Weird. She continued to take pictures of the bleached coral in front of her.

Mira, her tail swishing to keep her afloat, hid behind a large expanse of coral, eyes silently watching Helene. She was sad, yes, that the coral was dying, but there was nothing she could do about it. Seeing the camera being readied, she gave a small gasp, and ducked her head to avoid being potentially caught in a photo. Photos were hard evidence, and she didn't want to be the subject of an experiment, especially not by the humans.

Realizing she had seawater in her mouth now, she carefully expelled it from her mouth, the bubbles floating up towards the sky. Slowing raising her head, she peeked out, watching Helene. Humans were so weird, it was strange. They couldn't breathe underwater… nor did they have tails.

Helene took a couple more before taking a moment to look over the photos. She made mental notes on any anomaly’s within them, hoping she would remember to edit them out later on. Some were dark, some were shaky, some had weird dark splotches on the edges. Weird.

When she looked up from the device, she caught a trail of bubbles rising to the surface. Those certainly didn’t come from her. Her brow furrowed for a moment before slowly swimming in that direction. Maybe it was a dolphin or… or a seal. That would make for a great picture.

Helene could have swore she saw a flash of a human face, a dark eye poking out from the coral. Maybe it was just her mind playing tricks on her? Nevertheless, she paused, eyes glued to the area in front of her.

Mira froze as she saw Helene slowly swimming towards her. Her best course of action would be to stay still and hope she didn't notice her, but her instincts screamed at her to swim away. Doing her best to ignore the small voice in her head calling her an idiot for not swimming away, she kept her eyes wide open, unblinking so as to attract as little attention as possible.

Helene’s kind swarmed with possibilities as to who this was. Maybe it was one of the locals? It was a long swim from the public beaches she knew of. She was sure the person she was working with didn’t follow her nor look like that. Her head looked to the surface. No boats, big or smal, near her. No surfboards. Too early for them, she assumed.

Steeling herself, she moved slowly towards the presence. With a strained breath, she grabbed a soft hold onto the coral and peaked around the mass. Helene had been right, somewhat. It was human. Partly. The bottom was more fish than anything. Her whole body seemed to freeze. She didn’t know what to do.
