Let me cut to the chase— I want to do a purely platonic RP.

Don’t get me wrong. I love a good romance. But, I’ve always been drawn to strong platonic bonds. Not shallow friendships, but the kind of friendship that’s an unmatched bond. These are pretty rare and hard to come by, yeah, but good grief, do I love them.

And I would really love to do a roleplay that explores the deep, unbreakable, yet non-romantic connection shared by two characters. The good and the bad. The struggles, the victories, the tension, the emotion, the angst. You know, all that good stuff.

Genre and details can be discussed further with whoever is interested. I usually don’t do slice of life exclusively and tend to prefer some more speculative elements, but if you want to do SoL only I’m fine with that too. Unless I’m familiar with your writing I will ask for a sample.

andrew (Our Supreme Lord and Overseer)’s rules apply. Also I’m not super active right now so you don’t have to be in a hurry to respond since I probably won’t either.

(👀 I’m ngl I’m very interested. Love me a good romance too but it’s really nice to see something this, plus it’s kind of inspiring to me to make a rp centered on a queerplatonic relationship. You don’t have to do this with me if you don’t want to, but it is really nice to see this (especially since I’m someone who doesn’t actually have experience with romance or romantic attraction))

Perfect. I’d love to do this with ya! :) I don’t need a writing sample because I’ve seen your stuff and it’s great. Any specific genres or anything you have in mind or particularly like that you think would fit well in this? If not I can throw out some random ideas.

@Imagine_Logic

(I 👏 AM 👏 IN 👏 LOVE 👏 WITH 👏 PLATONIC 👏 RELATIONSHIPS. I love to see this, definitely stalking!)

Feel free to stalk! Here’s some popcorn 🍿

Djsdkjds glad you like my stuff. I don’t mind slice of life, tho a lot of my characters have something supernatural or fantastical about them so we could do smth like magical realism or just a slice of life in a fantasy setting idk. Actually, if we want something with more action involved we could do something like the movie Dungeons and Dragons: Honor Among Thieves and have like a platonic pair raising a child together and maybe they’re like. Committing crimes. lol. I have a character with a small child so I could definitely use her for this. If we don’t want any older characters with children involved that’s fine too, I have plenty of like teen characters and we could something more mundane like with school or family. And yeah, I wanna hear your ideas too!

@Imagine_Logic

I really liked that movie so I think that would be a cool idea! It gives us good room to have slice of life moments and more action as well. Yeah, I like that!! Should our characters already be close friends, and if so, for how long? And should we go for any specific friendship dynamic or just wing it?

@Tired-but-passionate

Okay cool ^^ I’m not sure, I feel like we could do something where they befriend each other irp, but at the same time I’m tempted to look at their backstories to see if idk, some sort of earlier relationship existed before. I’m tempted to just wing it when it comes to dynamics, I’m planning on using a preexisting character, so I know who they are and how they act, so we could just have the dynamics come about naturally

@Imagine_Logic

Sorry for the late reply! I'm good with them having known each other prior to the RP or meeting each other IRP. And yea, winging the dynamics sounds good to me! Do you want to fill out templates? If so, do you want to make them temp or would you like for me to?

Name: Victoria Birdwhistle
Age: 27
Gender: cis female
Sexuality: straight
Personality: generally a very sweet soul, Victoria is kind and empathetic, always willing to help someone in need. She’s usually pretty quiet, however, and tends to enjoy her own company. Practically minded, and enjoys simple physical activities/ getting stuff done. If you dare threaten her son, however, mother instincts will kick in and she will gladly fight you tooth and nail before you could lay a finger on her baby. She’s also rather clever, but she isn’t really known for her intelligence.
Appearance: Victoria stands at around 5’7 with a skinny hourglass body with pale, milky skin. She has a heart-shaped face, a small nose, and thin lips. Her eyes are large and round, and a golden brown color. There’s a splotchy birthmark in the middle of her spine. Her gingery red hair comes down to her shoulder blades, though she usually keeps it pinned up and out of the way
Backstory: Victoria was the only one in her family to born with magic in her blood, and though her father loved her even as her powers began manifesting, her mother and the rest of her community came to despise her. As she grew up, she tried to hide her powers, but a few incidents still occurred. Eventually, she had to move towns to start over. I’m not going to get into any details now, I’m saving it for later in the rp, but basically she ended up pregnant and gives birth to her son, Joel, who is now 3 months old. Victoria tried finding a stable work, but every endeavor was short lived. As of right now, she has tried using her love of photography to make money. It’s not a reliable source of income, but it keeps the lights on.
Powers/Abilities/Magic: She has a few abilities that she was born with: telekinesis, superhearing, summoning force fields, and enhanced pain tolerance. Other magic that she uses are spells or enchantments that she learned to do
Relationships/Family: Joel (son), Martha (mother), Eli (father), some fake friends who she used to hang out with, not anymore
Other: depression and PTSD, experiences dissociation

(Not entirely sure of the setting, so if I need to change anything lmk)

@Imagine_Logic

(AAA I love her!! And tbh I’m not entirely sure of the setting either, but I like the idea of a modern type setting with magic and fantasy elements. Urban fantasy type setting maybe with magic and maybe fantasy races operating in an otherwise modern, if not slightly more complex and dangerous, world?)

@Imagine_Logic

Name: Iverna “Ives” Vincent
Age: 29
Gender: cis female
Sexuality: asexual
Personality: Upon first meeting her, Ives comes across as friendly, if not a bit scatterbrained and distant. She spends most of her free time trying to “experiment” with magic and think of innovative ways to push the limits of what magic can and cannot do. She also enjoys science and is very knowledgeable in regards to physics and chemistry, often trying to draw the connections between science and magic. Most people tend to find her a bit eccentric, but she takes that as a compliment more than anything. She dislikes rules and tends to be somewhat chaotic, caring more about her personal sense or morality than what others think of her— or the law, for that matter. Behind the scenes, Ives struggles a lot with depression and PTSD, and is actually quite cynical, especially towards other people. She does not trust others very much, and while she likes making friends she doesn’t usually do a good job at keeping them. She is intelligent, but can be somewhat dense in social situations, often misunderstanding things like sarcasm or jokes.
Appearance: Ives stands at around 5’6, with fair skin. She is wiry with an almost boyish build— small bust, no curves. She’s not exactly muscular but her arms are somewhat toned, and she likes to stay active. She has a youthful appearance, a small gap between her teeth, blue-grey eyes, and wild golden curls that hang all the way down her back. She wears a pair of large circular glasses and usually keeps her hair tied back out of her face.
Backstory: Ives mother passed away shortly after the birth of her little sister. Ives’ father, a magic wielder, was a manipulative and unstable man. He physically and psychologically abused his children, refusing to let Ives attend school or interact with anyone outside of the house, even homeschooling them (or, more accurately, he threw some books at her and Ives homeschooled herself, to whatever extent a child can). He told her that if she spoke to anyone, she and her sister would be taken away and never see each other again, and she, being only a child, believed him for years. However, he spent a lot of his time away from home, doing drugs and having sex with prostitues and whatever else he felt like, leaving a very young Ives to take care of her even tinier sister. Really, Ives preferred he stayed away though, because he would only berate or harm the girls when he was home. Ives developed a fear of interacting with people and avoided them at all costs, regularly dealing with depression and suicidal thoughts. At the age of 18, after her father broke her younger sister’s nose, Ives ran away and took her sister with her.
Ives scraped around to get them both an apartment and jobs, and eventually saved up enough to go to college. She studied biology, physics, and chemistry.
She now has a job as a physics professor at a local college but makes most of her living off of her writings regarding her study of physics and magic. Her sister is also doing well, having moved out, and is a musician. Ives’ father died last year, presumably of a drug overdose.
Powers/Abilities/Magic: Ives’ magic is somewhat strange. She has the ability to enhance organic matter and living creatures. E.g., she can focus her energy to allow herself to heal, to cause bones, hair, teeth, etc. (of her or another person she is touching) to grow at an extremely unnatural rate, to cause plants to grow from a seed to a fully grown stem in a matter of seconds, etc. Her magic is pretty specific, only affecting things that are already alive, but it requires a lot of energy for her to use, especially on people or larger animals. She has never used her powers to harm any creature, but she believes that it would be possible to kill someone. She has tried to use other types of magic, and she can perform some basic spells and enchantments, but nothing too complex.
Other: she has a cat named Beans, lots of plants, and she likes to listen to music

@Imagine_Logic

(That would be cool. Maybe there are like… groups or places for magic users to go and familiarize themselves with their magic? Like in a world with magic it might be pretty dangerous so it could be recommended that people learn how to properly wield it and they could have resources or whatever for that? Idk just kinda spitballing stuff.)

@Tired-but-passionate

(That’s fine, that would definitely be interesting! In Victoria’s backstory I kinda implied that magic/ magic users are looked down upon and probably oppressed so I’m thinking it’s more of an underground place, or it’s a place that looks very normal but is actually a place for magic users to go discreetly. So maybe most of the time those with magic learn to control/wield it on their own, but they find places with other magic users to grow their abilities perhaps)
