(Aright here we go! Starting off with a different character just for the starter, Buck'll be around)

Captain Hodge generally considered standing around in the rain at midnight to be a less than pleasant hobby, and tonight was no exception. The transport was right on time, but it still couldn't get here fast enough. The landing pad was soaking wet.
Don't know why they don't give senior officers umbrellas, he grumbled to himself, shifting his weight impatiently. Even without the rain he would have been grumpy. He'd be rising bright and early in the morning as well, and no matter how many years he'd been in the military, he'd never learned to enjoy a short night. He'd still have to show the new recruit around, get them settled. And then hope they were everything he'd been promised. They'd have to be if tomorrow's mission was going to be successful.

His thoughts were cut off by a low thumping in the distance, rapidly approaching. He squinted through the rain and saw the helicopter's lights cutting through the darkness as it navigated it's landing. He watched it maneuver down to the landing pad, and then started forward to meet the disembarking crew halfway.

Loid was noticeably the first one off the transport, walking briskly up to meet the Captain. He raised his hand in greeting, slowing down once he was nearby. he saluted.
"Troop {insert number here} Reporting for duty." Loid said, holding the salute, waiting to be given instructions. he glared up at the rain, trying hard not to flinch from it.
He'd been waiting for a while to get on a new mission, and he was not letting rain ruin it for him. He had never been on a battlefield before, usually given solo missions, assassinations, or distractions.

@William

"Somoth? I'm Captain Hodge, you new CO," Hodge said, squinting through the rain. "Welcome to your new home. Let's get out of this Goddamned rain, eh?"

He led the way back into the barracks, holding the door open for Loid and ushering him inside. The lights were all still on, and Hodge led the way towards the sleeping quarters.

"I don't know what kind of situation you came from, but this HQ is pretty nice. Enjoy it while you can. Tonight you get your own room, and if we come back here at any point, it'll still be yours. Tomorrow we're going to be heading out into combat, so I want you to get right to sleep. "

He showed Loid the layout of the HQ on a directory posted on the wall as they passed, pointing out the debrief room where they would meet in the morning.

"Any questions?"

@Avhira-The-Eldritch-Horror group

"no, i don't think there is anything else i need to know right now. Oh, wait, there is one." Loid said thoughtfully. "What weapons will we be issued? we didn't get any yet, or at least, I didn't." he said, a bit sourly.

He'd been used to being given replacement weapons and ammo as soon as he needed them, but at this point he'd been out of both for several months. it was really starting to get on his nerves, but he tried not to let it show. he knew how to use a gun, of course, but he prefered blowguns, poisoned darts, knifes, and needles. this would be known to the captain, if he read over the message the government sent when they decided ti deploy Loid.

Regardless, loid was eager to start fighting in this war, as his other work had usually been much different.

@William

"Good question. It's my understanding that you have a specific set of skill unlike anyone else in my current crew. You will be paired with one of my best soldiers and he'll be your gunman and bruiser so you can do your job, but you'll be issued a standard weapon set, M4A1 rifle, Glock 19M, and a few extra gadgets for your vest. You'll get the full list tomorrow, but I assume those are all weapons you can handle?" Hodge narrowed his eyes at the new recruit. "The people who sent you talked you up pretty big, I hope you live up to it. We're counting on it."

Hodge intended to put pressure on Loid. He wanted to see the reaction. He already had Loid's companion picked out, but he was still open to changing his mind based on what little he could learn of the assassin before the next day.

@Avhira-The-Eldritch-Horror group

Loid rolled his eyes. "Of course i can handle guns. I've been training with all manner of weapons for….. a long time. And i have no doubt i'll exceed those expectations of yours. Now, Captian, I'm headed to bed. I'm sure the rest of the troop will want to as well."
He started walking away, before thinking better of it, and turning back. "If i'm dismissed?" he asked, but it was obvious it wasnt really a question. he crossed his arms, studying Hodge's face. he wanted to figure things out about the captain, but that could wait until his main mission was underway. "Unless we somehow made it for dinner.." He said, just now realizing his men would be hungry.

@William

"Watch your tone, soldier," Hodge said without any anger or reprimand in his voice. He didn't seem at all offended, but he seemed to have made up his mind about something, nodding slightly to himself. "Any old schmuck can handle guns. Marine standard issue rifles are another thing. Dismissed, get some sleep. You'll be reporting to the debrief room at 4:00. Mess is already closed I'm afraid, you'll have to wait until breakfast."

Hodge nodded sharply to Loid, then turned and stalked off, shaking the last of the rain out of his hat as he went.

"Bright and early, solider!" he called over his shoulder.

@Avhira-The-Eldritch-Horror group

Loid shook his head. he would hate having to listen to someone else. he groaned, but ushered the men to the bunkers. they still had a bit of food from the helicopter, but he let his soldiers have it. He didn't fall asleep for a while, unable to stop thinking about that annoying, obnoxious, overbearing captain. he tossed and turned, trying to think of something- anything else. when he finally fell asleep, he slept soundly.
(timeskip to morning?)

@William

(Sorry, I got food poisoning really bad. Yes to the time skip!)

Buck stood slightly apart from his team, leaning on the wall with his arms folded, dozing lightly in his feet. His friends either muttered quietly to each other or stood in various stages of semi-conscious silence. Hodge had yet to arrive, but it was 4:28 am, and he would be there any minute. As would the new people. Any conversation Buck tuned in on was about the helicopter that had arrived late last night, after most of them were asleep. Buck hadn't seen it personally, but Sarah had been standing guard, and had plenty of details to share. To Buck it sounded like a normal transfer of troops, and he let her words fade into the background after only a minute. The new people would be here soon enough.

He wasn't terribly excited. He knew he, like his team, were going to be paired off with the new soldiers. He preferred missions where he could stick with the people he knew, but he wasn't going to argue. Hodge had been final on the matter. Teams of two, one from each company. Buddy system. It would be Company 18's job to keep the other soldiers alive so they could do their jobs.

Glorified bodyguarding, he thought to himself, closing his eyes.

(its fine, i got my wisdom teeth out) Loid came out, wearing a personalized uniform. he was hiding several of his normal weapons in it, as well as a few new guns. the new men walked in behind him, as they had all heard different stories about him, and didnt want to cross him. He felt pride in knowing that the men were scared of him. As it should be

He was planning on eating and then training today, as long as they weren't called out into the battlefield. if they were, he'd make due. he was always ready to fight, but wouldn't mind a few more minutes of time training with the guns. he knew his men would appreciate the extra time as well.

His men clambered over to the line for food, while loid stayed near the back. he watched everyone in the room, studying his new comrades. he didn't see the rude commander from the previous day, but that was fine with him.

@William

(oops and there I went again lmao. I'm back now tho. Also, just checking that you know Company 18 is waiting for Loid to start the briefing, right? He's supposed to report with them)

@Avhira-The-Eldritch-Horror group

(oh right, i forgot.) Loid panicked, as he didn't remember to brief his men. he rushed over ti where they were waiting. "Men." he gave a small nod and the went at ease. he started briefing, then finished with "Commander Hodge is our commander now. if he gives any orders contrary to what i have said, he is the higher up."

@William

(I think there's still a misunderstanding, they are waiting for Loid to come join them so Hodge can give the briefing for the mission they are going on today, at 5:30 am, in one hour, with Company 18, who Loid has been hired to work with directly under Hodge's command :)

@Avhira-The-Eldritch-Horror group

Loid never went to breakfast, he went straight to the briefing room, getting there about an hour early. because i'm an idiot and was not understanding. He was the first one there, and had brought his own food. He didn't trust kitchen staff, as they could be infiltrated.

He sat down, shining the blade he had grabbed from the kitchen early in the morning, desperate to be armed. Yes, he was also a skilled hand-to-hand fighter, but he definitely preferred knifes and blowguns.
