(sorry for the late reply, i was really distracted yesterday)
(also im time skipping to the court date to push this along :P)

"To the accuse of Third Degree Manslaughter, what do you plead?"
"Guilty, your Honour."

Sunny opened his mouth to protest, before it was promptly shut by his uncle.
He didn't really know what he was going to say, he probably would have rambled off a stupid "no".

(i see now what you meant by your reply, but when i first saw it i though that you thought it was referring to sunny. funny how the mind interprets things (maybe also that fact that it was like 7 in the morning helped))

Kaiya glanced back as she pleaded, knowing that Sunny wouldn't want her to be. But it was true. And at least with Third Degree Manslaughter, she could get away with it being unitentional.

Sunny shook his head,
"Can they do that? Is it really that simple??"
"Yes, that's how the court works. If she pleads then there's no point to building up her case. She's admitted."
"So, what, it's just over now?"

(hey sorry, i've been really busy lately)

"The jury will announce their decision."
Kaiya's breath hitched as a jury member walked up to the judge. She didn't want it to go wrong.

(That's alright fella, me too xx )

"I mean yeah"
"Well, now what?"
"The jury will tell the judge what they think then that'll be her sentence."
Sunny furrowed his eyebrows,
"But what about me?"
"What about you? You did nothing wrong."

The judge cleared his throat. "In the case of Kaiya Whelan, under the accuse of Third Degree Manslaughter, the jury finds you guilty. You will serve one month in jail, then have to complete 200 hours of community service."

(sorry sorry sorry schools just started up I haven't had heaps of time)

"One month??" Sunny yelled.
His uncle sshhhh'd him,
"Speak when you're spoken to-"
"Mr June, is there something you'd like to say?"

Kaiya looked at Sunny as he interrupted, a worried look on her face. She didn't want him to ruin anything, just to leave the sentence as it was. Just leave it. Just leave it.

"It was self-defence! Surely that would only equate to community service? She's not a threat, she was trying to save herself-"
"That's not how it works, Sunny." His uncle shot daggers at him,
"Sit down and shut up before you make things worse for her."

"Sit down, Mr June!" The judge said sternly. "Need I remind you that this is Miss Whelan's case, not yours. Your case will be reviewed tomorrow. Do not push this."

Sunny choked back his tears as he forcefully shoved himself down into his chair. The room was alive with conversation, about both him and the verdict.
All he could think about is how unfair this is.
