I really should not be creating another roleplay that will occupy a large portion of my time, but alas. I've had this plot in the works for a couple of weeks now and I'm excited about it, so here it is!

In a war-torn world full of tragedies halfheartedly justified by tyrants who want nothing but power, a small, magical country known as Egril has stumbled across the solution to finally bring long-lasting peace. If only the one who possessed such a solution, the great queen of Egril, wasn't bedridden, dying from a broken heart after the sudden passing of her husband.

The only ones who could possibly save her are a species of imp-like folk known as Menders. They possess the power of heart magic, able to manipulate the hearts of man—or at least they did, before they were all but wiped out by the humans who feared them.

There is only one known to still live in Egril—the bastard son of a farmer, kept under lock and key at a garrison far, far away from the palace.

Left with no other options, one of the queen's most trusted soldiers is sent to escort the Mender to the palace no matter the cost. However, the rulers of neighboring countries will not make matters easy. Enemies of all kinds lie in wait, including one unfortunate mercenary who learns the hard way that they might just be on the wrong side of the war.

There will be three main characters in this:
A. The Mender. One of the last surviving in the world, and the only one with the power to save the heartbroken queen.
B. The Queen's Soldier. Handpicked by the queen and sent by one of her advisors to escort the Mender to the palace.
C. The Mercenary. Accepted payment in return for plotting to interfere with Egril's plans to save their queen.

The basic draft I have for this so far is that Soldier and Mender initially have a rocky start, with Mender being treated more like a prisoner than a valuable asset to the country. As they travel, however, perspectives shift, and Soldier begins to open up to Mender, allowing them a bit more freedom and overall becoming friends. Things get tense when Mender finds himself at the wrong end of Mercenary's sword in a clear ambush, but for whatever reason, Mercenary hesitates and Soldier defeats them. For some equally strange reason, Soldier also hesitates to dispatch of Mercenary, so they begrudgingly decide to take them as a prisoner and turn them into the other guard when they reach the palace.

What they don't know is that they're soulmates. All three of them.
(*Note that Mender will realize relatively early on that Soldier and Mercenary are soulmates, but won't know about himself as he does not have the power to peer into his own heart. Also, I will be playing the Mender!)

Anyways, if you're interested at all in joining this, please know that this will end up as a poly relationship!

RULES:

  • Respect your fellow roleplayers. If someone expresses something they are not comfortable with, you are expected to listen and respond accordingly.
  • Wait your turn to reply. We'll go in the order that people first respond to the starter post.
  • Cursing, as well as graphic violence/depictions of blood, are at this point and time, allowed.
  • Explicit sexual content is very much not allowed.
  • Keep your characters realistic. The only limitation I ask is that you don't make them overpowered or omnipotent.

PARTICIPATING CHARACTERS

@Veere
Name: Damen
Age: Twenty
Gender/Pronouns/Sexuality: Cis male, he/him, pan and polyromantic
Powers/Abilities: Heart magic. As a Mender, Damen possesses the ability to peer into the hearts of people. His kind was nearly eradicated because it was believed their magic was malicious and could destroy a heart entirely, thus the slur 'Render'. While this belief holds some truth to it, the act of destroying a heart goes against the very nature of a Mender and would often take a fatal toll on the one who attempted it. More commonly, Menders use their powers to fix and heal the hearts of broken people, whether that be from grief, heartbreak, unrequited love, illnesses of the mind, or physical ailments.

Being able to peer into hearts means Damen is able to discern whether a person is inherently good or bad. It also means he can see if that person has a soulmate waiting for them, which manifests as a "red string of fate". He cannot peer into his own heart, nor discern whether he is a good person or not, or even whether he has a soulmate.
Appearance: With his powers sealed or inactive, Damen looks rather like a human. Save, of course, the small, black horn nubs protruding from his crown and a fluffy black, cat-like tail with a tuft of fur at the end. He's about 5'4" with a small frame reminiscent of a child, has wide brown-red eyes, a button nose, and ears tapered to a slight point. His hair is a similarly fluffy black to his tail, shorter in the front and falling like a mane to his shoulder blades, where it's tied. A scaly black texture covers the back of his hands and trails about halfway up his forearms before disappearing into his natural, tanned skin again. His palms and fingers are the same deep black as the back of his hands, but far softer to the touch. His nails are long, black, and rounded at the tips—perfect for playing heartstrings like one might play the harp.
Biography: The brunt of it, is Damen was born a bastard son to a farmer. His mother was a Mender who fell in love with Damen's father, and the two grew very close very quickly. Damen's father, however, was married to another woman. When he confessed the truth to Damen's mother, she was distraught and fell ill with heartsick. Fearing for her life, Damen's father made false promises, lies she chose to believe because they were what she wanted to hear. The two became lovers, away from the eyes of the wife, and less than a year later, Damen was born. At that point, the massacre of the Menders had already been well underway, and it wasn't too long before Damen's mother became the next victim.

Left to grieve alone with a son his wife still had no idea existed, Damen's father made the choice to give the child to another couple who would care for him in his stead. Unfortunately, the intentions of the couple were not pure, and they quickly turned the boy in for profit.

Thus, Damen grew up under the not-so-kind watch of soldiers who resented and hated his birthright. All but one; Mr. Hirentien, who went out of his way to teach the boy to read and care for himself. He even went so far as to provide him with books on the history of his culture, as he was one of the very few people who believed the Menders were not to be feared but admired.
Personality: Very quiet, enough that many believe him to be mute, or simply too stupid to talk. Damen does speak, however—to Mr. Hirentien, and occasionally the cook who never fails to bring him food.

Damen is observant, having needed to be to survive in his prison, and far more likely to study situations extensively before acting. That said, he, like most Menders, chooses to act from his heart far more than his head.

Beneath his shy exterior is a bundle of curiosity, easily excitable and one to share in all that he thinks is exciting. Definitely struggles from no real-world knowledge, but always enthusiastic to learn.
Accommodations/Weapons/Support Items: N/A
Other:

  • The hearts of Menders are fragile, being that they cannot use their powers on themselves. Hence why the species traveled in large groups when they were still common.
  • Damon's powers are sealed via twin wrist cuffs made of silver and enchanted by a warlock.
  • Theme Song/General Vibe: Blue and Grey by BTS and Two Time by Jack Stauber.

@Tired-but-passionate
Name: Anthurium Dali
Age: 22
Gender/Pronouns/Sexuality: non-binary, he/they, pansexual
Powers/Abilities: They have an affinity with snapdragons, and these plants will grow around him and on his body whenever they are feeling a strong emotion. Strong healing abilities, and some fire resistance, too.
Appearance: Anthurium has a height of about 6’2 and a angular, triangular-shaped body. He has olive skin with white-ish freckles and slightly pointed ears. Their eyes are a vibrant green color, and their hair is white with greenish tips, and goes down to just past his butt. They like wear it loose and long, but he keeps it up in a braided bun most of the time so it’s out of the way. He tends to present as masculine.
Biography: Anthurium was raised as an only child in the House of Dali. Dryads have present in their family tree for centuries, as the House of Dali made a deal with them a while back. This deal is kept a highly guarded secret though, and even Anthurium doesn’t know it. When his father passed away a few years ago, they had already been training to be a palace soldier, but now their training escalated. He became a soldier at a young age, and somehow found themself in the queen’s favor not long after.
Personality: he’s not shy, just rather quiet and introverted. He’s also intelligent, and calculating and strategic when he needs to be. However, they’re also caring and loyal to those they have forged strong bonds to. He’s observant, curious, and knowledge-seeking; he loves to read and interview people about what they know. They also have a tendency to be very flirtatious, even if he doesn’t have an attraction to the person he’s flirting with. However, if angered or inconvenienced, they can turn their way with words into a way to verbally destroy whoever incited his anger. Luckily, he’s a fairly patient person, so this doesn’t happen too often.
vAccommodations/Weapons/Support Items**: a longsword and spear

@Icefire
Name: Marcellus Ivannarae
Age: 23
Gender/Pronouns/Sexuality: Cis man, he/him. Pan
Powers/Abilities: Marcellus is half-fae, and as a result is stronger and faster than normal humans, with sharpened senses. Can cast weak glamours, and can tell when someone is lying. On the flip-side, though, he has a slightly harder time lying than regular people, and sometimes has to create odd mental workarounds in order to lie, such as convincing himself that it isn't a lie through some convoluted thought process.
Appearance: Marcellus stands at 5'10", with a slim, angular form. He does have muscle, but it is more of a trim, lean muscle than bulk. He has pale white skin, and forest green eyes framed by dark lashes. His hair is a dark chocolate brown tone, with soft curls, which falls almost to his elbows. He usually ties it back in a ponytail or a bun to keep it out of the way. Marcellus's ears have soft points, and his cheekbones are high and sharp, as is his jawline. He has long, slim fingers, perfect for playing an instrument but more often holding a weapon, and his body is flecked with scars from fighting and battles. He has slightly sharper canines than is common among humans. Often, he is wearing some form of armor, and wears reinforced gloves made so that he can throw harder punches, with the knuckles reinforced with metal so that it is more damaging. Prefers blades over any other kind of weapon, but has been known to wield ranged weapons if necessary.
Biography: Marcellus was born to a human mother and a fae father. Unfortunately, his mother was a thrall to his father, meaning the relationship was less than consensual. He was left with his mother until he was four years old and his Fae abilities and tendencies became more obvious, and then his father claimed him and swept him up into the Fae household. He had no other siblings, and was raised in his father's household until he was 15. At 15, he ran away. While living in his father's household, he had been trained in all sorts of weapons use, and while on his own, continued in learning them. He began to give his skills for hire, and began to move up in the mercenary world very quickly. He was pretty enough to get into places, and just unique enough to catch enough glances, but not unique enough to stand out too much. His hair is long enough to cover his ears if necessary, and those are the least-human parts of him. His speed and strength are, of course, an asset. (I purposefully left a lot of holes; don't worry, it'll get clearer as we go!)
Personality: Marcellus can be stubborn, and hot-headed, but is still a good mercenary, and capable of being patient if he has to be. Can be loud, but often is full of hot air and empty words, filling empty space with rambling about nothing and everything (definitely neurotypical behavior lmfao) and will overshare about things that interest him until he finally realizes that he has been talking for far too long, and will then go quiet again. Probably has ADHD, and is often pacing or stimming or just…moving. Very smart, but that often gets hidden behind his tendency to fumble his words or sound so very stupid about it that people won't give him the time to fumble through it. Once he gets through his initial fumbling, he is often able to explain what he means, but often Fae don't give that kind of time, and when he was younger he got very used to being cut off and silenced as soon as he started fumbling.
Accommodations/Weapons/Support Items:
Has a few small fidget items he keeps in his pockets.
Uses a pair of twin swords that are light and flexible, but still strong enough to fight with

@Veere group

(This roleplay prompt wouldn't exist if I had any impulse control, so let's be spontaneous together! Since you're the first to express interest you can choose whether you want to be the soldier or the mercenary. Though, I will warn you that there will be a gap, that I'll try to keep short, where the mercenary has not yet showed up!)

@Tired-but-passionate

(Hey Ice! Lol cool. I think I have good candidates for the soldier, though they aren’t completely human so idk if that’s okay or not. I also have a possibility for the mercenary as well. I think I prefer the soldier, but I don’t really care)

@Veere group

(Sure thing, Ice! And go for it, Tired! Your character doesn't need to be human. ^^ Also, that would leave the mercenary to Icefire, if you both are sold on that!)

@ElderGod-Icefire

(Hey, Ella! Thanks for letting me join, Veere, and that sounds fine to me! I had some ideas for both the soldier or the mercenary, so I'm fine with it!)
