(oooh, good theories indeed :D theres one more thing about him thats somewhat power related, but the question is, do you want to do that now or a little later? its something that could close the 'ability testing arc' if you will.)

@Kinarymo

Damien shook high head, letting out a big sigh, overwhelmed by the size of the problems the modern world faced. A broken school system no one cared to fix, that felt so very wrong and unfair. It got on his nerves, especially since it directly affected his friend.
He raised his gaze towards her when her chuckle interrupted his train of thought.
"If you can manage it, then thats good…" he smiled weakly, glad his friend didn't seem to be too affected by the injustice of the world.

"Why not make it a habit? Are you afraid you'll spend too much money or what?" he asked.

"Well, on one side i can see why, you need knowledge to do a hard job, but thats also kind of unfortunate for those who dont really manage in school…" he trailed off again, not knowing what side to pick. Both arguments were good but at the same time a little unfair.
"A lucky chance no? haha…"

"Oook…. but, does a woman need that to be considered for marriage? I mean, is it obligatory to find love?" He was pretty sure his mother hadn't been exactly high society or too special and yet she managed to find love, or it found her, she never got to tell him exactly how she met his father, the only clear thing was that she had feelings for him that were genuine, and were also somewhat fueled by Damien's physical resemblance to the man.

The boy shook his head as well, getting a somewhat sense of unease at the memories he had with large groups of people, it was almost suffocating scary in a way he wasnt exactly eager to see again. People sometimes did act just like sheep.

(Thank you! Those theories are also written in Mari’s little notebook for the story. … I am curious what that other thing is now that you mentioned it. But I’ll leave it to you if you want to tell me.)

@FanfictionFanatic-The-Elder group

Mari smiled softly at him and nodded. She didn't really mean to worry or scare him by telling him about what the world was like now. If anything, she just wanted him to be prepared in case he decided to visit it. Though in hindsight, she wasn't sure if she was covering the right topic at the moment. “Ah, sorry. Let's talk about something a little less depressing.” she apologized, shaking her head slightly.

“Well, partly, yeah. But it's also a little weird, to me at least, to go to the mall by yourself.” she admitted. “Unless you already know what you're going to get and where it is.”

“Yeah… It's kinda a double-edged sword when you think of it that way.” she nodded sadly. “There’s way too much pressure on students to do well in school and sometimes it feels like they don't really teach you what you need to know to for actual life.” she looked over at him and nodded with a light laugh. “Yeah. A very lucky chance.”

“No, it's not mandatory to get married. Not anymore, at least.” she assured him. “Back then, when that kind of thing was a bigger deal, marriage wasn't always synonymous with love. Nowadays, however, it's much better. People can get married for love easily now. The only thing that people have to be cautious of is age… Like you have to be at least eighteen, I think, in order to be legal for marriage.” she explained. “And it's creepy if there is a large age gap.”

“Hey… Are you alright?” she asked softly, noticing his far-off stare.

@Kinarymo

(That's a nice fun fact :D I'll tell you about the other thing when they get to testing out his magic, when do u wanna do that? :D)

@Kinarymo

"Okay… What do you want to talk about then?" he asked, on a happier note that they were finally moving on from the grim toned discussion about school. Guess the world would always have some parts that weren't as they should be. It just seemed impossible to have everything be perfect.

"Ooh, it's because its a shopping place, and going there without the intention to shop is kind of pointless and a waste of time, right? And you also dont have your friends so…" Damien jumped to answer, doing his best to name all the reasons he thought were the most plausible.

Somehow, modern school sounded worse than the one in his time, just because of all that peer pressure and also its apparent uselessness. Why even pressure the students when the job isnt done well in the first place? The oddity of it all amazed him, and he told her just that.
"Im glad it happened" he smiled a little, playing with his sleeves.

"Then thats a good thing! No more forced marriages and love dramas!" he perked up, clapping his hands rapidly, their sound muffled by the fabric of the long sleeves. Again, he was referring to his books, but given fiction usually imitates life, he thought it appropriate to consider them real life issues. "But, why is it creepy to have a large age gap? Wasn't it normal before?"

The trance he seemed to be under broke at the sound of the words, turning back towards her.
"Hm? Oh, yea, im fine, just lost in thought, thats all. Do you want to continue with the uh, testing?"

@FanfictionFanatic-The-Elder group

She hummed thoughtfully for a moment before shrugging. “I’m not actually sure.” she said with a light laugh, a little embarrassed. “Uhh, what's something you'd like to talk about?”

“Yeah, that pretty much sums it up.” she smiled, confirming his guess was right, at least for her.

Mari nodded, sharing the sentiment. “Yeah, that was probably the best time for that run.” she laughed a little. “I’m glad we got to meet too.”

“It is much better… But I don't know if I wouldn't say that there no more drama.” she admitted. She couldn't help but chuckle at the cute sound made by his clapping before raising a brow slightly at his question. “Well, it may have been common before but now… Seeing a couple where one person is old enough to be the other person's parent or grandparent, it tends to make a lot of people uncomfortable.”

She nodded slightly. “Sure. If you're feeling up to it. Maybe, we could try testing if you can fly… or at least float.” she suggested. Of course, she wouldn't be able to guide him very much but she was still curious if he could and was willing to help if there was a way to.

@Kinarymo

"I… dont know either…" the boy responded, moving his hand to rub the back of his head. As glad as he was for the somber mood to be gone, he couldnt think about anything else at the moment. Nothing major at least.

"You're still going out on runs, by the way?"

"What do you mean by no more drama?" Damien asked, tilting his head while looking at her with the expression of someone whose happy moment got interrupted with something confusing. "Why is that?"

He paused for a second, stopping mid motion, while his visible eye moved around, processing the question.
"F- fly? How am i supposed to do that? i dont have any wings you know."

@FanfictionFanatic-The-Elder group

The young woman laughed a little at the fact that neither of them could come up with any conversation starters but nodded, smiling softly at her friend. “That’s ok, amigo.“

“Oh, yeah. Every other day, when I can, otherwise it's more like once a week… Not counting when I run at school.” she nodded.

Mari blinked for a moment before attempting to clarify. “Umm, actually, I said that there is still drama… or that’s what I meant to say because you commented that there weren't any more forced marriages, which is true, but you also said no more love drama. And I don't think that's something that can really go away.” she raised a brow slightly at his question. “Well, would you be ok marrying someone more than twice your age? Because, personally, I would not. If, for some reason, it does happen and it's actually a genuine real love then… good for them, I guess. But usually when people see a couple like that then… the older person is usually a creep or the younger person is just after the other’s money. It's not a healthy relationship.” she explained a little reluctantly.

She sighed a little and shrugged. “Honestly, I'm not sure. I know I can’t, even though it would be really cool… But in some of the lore I looked into; vampires were depicted as being able to fly in different ways depending on the story.” she said, standing up. “One way was actually with large almost bat-like wings that could be hidden under their skin and “pulled out” the same way you can flex a muscle and I don't think it's supposed to hurt. Another way was actually part of their shapeshifting when they turned into a real bat… Or using a form that resembled a gray mist but that one was more of a partial transformation. And the third way, that I remember, was almost like telekinesis; being able to just will themselves into the air.” she said, turning to look at him and hoping that she didn't overwhelm him.

@Kinarymo

Damien smiled back, a little embarrassed of his sudden lack of questions, when he normally should have had plenty. Though it felt nice to see her smile at him with such warmth.
"Oh, i may have one!" he remembered. "What's it like to have siblings? Do you get along with them well?"

"Ookay… What kind of drama is it then? is it like family feuds or how?" the boy inquired curiously. "Oh, i see… So, then i would be in that cathegory too, right? im technically two centuries over everyone right now"
Damien didnt exactly intend to find love anytime soon, but just to put the thought out there for now.

As she explained the different ways a vampire could fly, Damien looked down at himself, patting his body down as if he was looking for something - there were definitely no hidden wings anywhere on his body, not to mention the method sounded a little creepy, so that left the other two options.
"I dont know if i can transform in anything at all, how would i even go about to try that?"

@FanfictionFanatic-The-Elder group

Mari tilted her head slightly, giving a thoughtful hum at his new question. “What’s it like? Chaotic for the most part. Yeah, I guess the three of us get along well enough but I won't lie, there are days when they drive me crazy.” she told him with a soft smile. “But in the end, I wouldn't trade them for anything. They're my brothers and I love them and if anyone tried to hurt them, they’d have to deal with me.”

“Ummm… Well, I don't think feuds are as big of a thing as they used to be but there might still be some out there. But I don't really know much about those kinds of things. Probably just because I’ve never been a part of them.” she admitted. “The most I know about romantic dramas is from books and movies or tv.” Her eyes widened slightly at that question before she shook her head. “No. Actually, you wouldn't. I can see why you would think that but you wouldn't. You may be over two centuries old but you don't look or act like it. If anything, you look just a couple years younger than me. You’d be the exception to that.” she explained with a gentle smile.

Mari almost chuckled as he checked himself for anything like she described. “It wouldn't be obvious if you had them.” she told him before giving a little shrug. “I’m… not actually sure. As I mentioned, most humans, if any, can't transform either. But… Well, most stories I’ve read that have that ability in it have said that it requires a lot of concentration and a calm state of mind.” she said, though she knew those stories were fiction. “You kind of have reach deep inside yourself and sort of feel it, then if you really focus on it then you can turn into it.” Honestly, she wasn't sure if any of that would work but it seemed like the best advice. “Follow your instincts.”

@Kinarymo

"Wow… Sounds like a busy way of life, especially since both are younger. But i imagine you are a wonderful sister to them. What are the two of them like?" he asked, with a light sense of joy on his face. Siblings sounded like a pretty interesting thing after all.

"So.. There can be a feud just about everything then, even now? Can you give mr an example?"
If marriage was done because of love, Damien couldnt see how this could lead to dramas, especially since they got along well in the first place, so what could it be?
"An exception huh… would it had been different if i acted my age then? Or do i just need to look the part?"

"Why wouldnt it be obvious?" the boy blinked at her in confusion, letting go of his sweater. Having something that wasnt already existing sprout from ones body sounded a little bit unnerving to him, for various reasons that were pretty obvious.
"Instincts… Okay, got it. I'll try, but i cant promise anything" Damien warned, taking in a deep breath before closing his eyes. Trying to reach out for something within him was definitely easier said than done, since he didnt even know what he was looking for. Instincts? They were probably very dulled, because he couldnt feel anything. Or could he? It was very small and easy to miss, but for a second he felt it, like the loose string of a fabric. He reached for it and gently tugged, trying to figure out what it was.

@FanfictionFanatic-The-Elder group

“Well, no one's perfect and there are times when we drive each other crazy, but I do my best to be a good sibling.” she shrugged with a soft blush at his comment. “Honestly, they're both mischievous little rascals when they want to be. But Cory is usually a little more restless and he likes to be doing something almost all the time. He's ten and he's already a gamer.” she said with a fond chuckle. “Jake, on the other hand, is very creative and much more patient. When he does things, they tend to be more thought out and planned. He could be an artist or a musician and he prefers chess and card games over video games.”

“I don't know about any examples I can give you but aren't feuds just arguments or grudges that got out of hand? So couldn't they be about anything?” she asked, since most of her experience with feuds was from fiction or the occasional history, but those weren't as clear. “As I mentioned though, feuds aren't really common anymore. Arguments or fights, unfortunately, are still pretty normal but those can usually be resolved better than a feud.” she told him, hoping she explained it well enough. Mari chuckled a little and shook her head at his question. “I mean, it's partly how you look and partly how you act. If you acted your age… Well, I don't even know how someone could act two hundred years old but I think you just need to act like you. Be the age you feel. If you want to act more mature, go for it.” she encouraged though she was unsure of how that would go too. He just looked so young and innocent that it seemed like most people would just treat him as if he was fourteen.

She shrugged a little. “Probably because vampires, for the most part, usually look just as human as the next person. It makes it easier to get people to trust them that way, until they don't want to be.” she explained, her voice trailing off slightly as she realized where that conversation could lead. She cleared her throat softly and gave him a calm encouraging smile as he started focusing, choosing to stay quiet so he could have a better chance of finding anything.

@Kinarymo

"But why drive each other crazy? Why do that? Is it how siblings work in general or is it on purpose?" he asked, confusedly but not doubting her ability to be a good sibling, given how nice she was with him.
"Wow, for a pair of twins they sure are quite different from one another. They sound lovely though, when they're not looking for trouble that is…"

Damien stopped for a second to think. Yes, she kinda did have a point there, any argument could lead to a feud, it was just human nature, or so his books led him to believe. Two people always found a reason to fight if they had clashing interests, it just happened.
"well, in truth i dont know either how someone my age acts… i know old people behaviour but that doesnt really resonate with me at all. I guess its a matter of how people are rather than age itself?"
He was a little afraid to admit he didnt really know how he could act more mature than he already was.

The boy didnt manage to keep track of her words, as they got lost in his mind while he kept tugging at that slim thread of something weird within him. He couldnt tell outright, but he assumed this was what Mari refered to when she told him to follow his instincts - after all, now that he'd dug so deep, he was starting to recognize some feelings he'd had before, a long time ago. It was a chill feeling, but pleasant in a sense, like putting a gloved hand in water and only feeling its cold. And that feeling slowly began guiding him along, like he was being led by the hand in a dark room.

@FanfictionFanatic-The-Elder group

“Most of the time, that's just how siblings are. Sometimes it's on purpose but it's not always easy to tell when it is.” she admitted with a brief shrug before smiling at his next comment about her brothers. “Yeah, they are. They're really only identical in appearance… but even then they still have slight differences there too.” she nodded with a light chuckle.

Mari smiled gently and placed a hand on his shoulder. “Then I wouldn't worry too much about it. Like I said, just act the age you feel. There's no pressure.” she assured him. “I guess it is sort of a combination of how you act and look as well as what you are. Age-wise, I mean.” she clarified, not wanting to imply what he was as a vampire was that important. Yes, it was important but it really depended on the other person.

She continued to silently watch her friend, starting to get a little worried about him… But she didn't want to interrupt. This could be really important for Damien. What would he end up finding? Was he having a hard time finding it? Would he be able to find something at all? Would what he found be good? She really hoped so.

@Kinarymo

"Maybe its also because they're kids, and kids are like that" he added, finding the situation somewhat innocently fun. "Oh, what kind of differences are there? Are they not exactly identical?"

The boy sighed softly as he nodded, glad his friend was so accepting of whatever he wished to do, even if his numbers and looks did not match at all whatsoever.
"Thanks, for the good advice" he smiled lightly, enjoying the warmth of her hand on his shoulder.

While walking along in the dark like feeling within his depths, his breathing slowly steadied, as he neared the source of the chilly feeling. It felt like a ball of cold he could pass his hands through and never touch anything physical per se. Just somewhat tiny particles brushing against his skin.
Reaching the source seemed to have some effect on the outside as well, as a slow wisp of dark colored mist began gently emanating from his small frame, particularly the limbs, at first barely visible but slowly gaining opacity when particles began appearing as well.

@FanfictionFanatic-The-Elder group

“That’s true. Kids are just like that. However, I've noticed that when you see a random kid doing something, it's usually cute or funny but when you're related to that kid… It still can be cute and funny but it's also annoying and embarrassing. I don't know why that is.” she admitted with a small shrug. “Well, the differences are very subtle so you don't really notice them unless you know my brothers really good or if you know what to look for. Like Cory's hair has just a hint more red in his hair and Jake's eyes are a little more on the lighter side. Other than that, they're pretty identical.” she smiled a little as she described her brothers.

She smiled softly, a slight blush coming to her cheeks. “You’re welcome. And I'm glad you think it's good advice.” she said sincerely as she gave his shoulder a gentle little squeeze.

Mari gasped softly and took a cautionary step back. She was.. honestly, a little overwhelmed. On one hand, she was thrilled that he had found… his “power source”, if you could call it that. But she was also a little bit nervous about what he would be able to do now… What he would feel. “Damien? Can you hear me?” she asked gently. “You’re… You're doing great.”

@Kinarymo

The boy gently rubbed his chin, trying to appear like he was thinking very deeply even though he could not find an answer either.
"Maybe its because you're blood related? and i dont know, maybe having someone in the family do something embarrassing could bring shame to you as well? I've no clue that's the case, but from what i read that could be it." he shrugged. "Honestly, those are some neat little details! Gosh i would like to see them someday…"

Damien nodded lightly, as if thanking her once more, hand still on his shoulder. He'd meant what he said, about the good advice part, she really did feel like a source of well meant advice which he was pretty ready to take to heart at this point.

Her voice made him open his eye, looking around him rapidly, in confusion about what she was talking about until he saw the particles. Initially he was tempted to panic a little, but somehow managed to maintain his calm.
"I.. i am?" he asked, still watching the tiny fragments floating around him slowly like wisps of mist. They werent too many, but the amount he could see was already plenty for him.

@FanfictionFanatic-The-Elder group

She nodded slightly with a soft hum. “That makes as much sense as anything.” she agreed, unable to think of a better reason. “Hey, whenever you're ready or if you want to, you can come over to my house and meet them. I can show you how to get there and introduce you.” she suggested, almost promising him the chance, even though she didn't want to pressure him. It was his choice when he wanted to go out and leave his house, see how things changed.

She hadn't really wanted to break his focus but the fact that the particles were still there made her believe that he was still… connected to his abilities. “Yeah. I think so.” she nodded. “I… I've never seen something like this before, but I think you're doing it. Just don't lose focus. Stay calm.” she encouraged. “Now… Uhh, how… What do you feel?”

@Kinarymo

The boy smiled wider where he stood, happy about the offer. With her around, it felt a little safer.
"Sure, thank you. I'll consider it, for another day." He nodded, mentally placing that day in the somewhat near future.

Damien slowly began turning around to look at the particles from every angle, still calm as a pond. Somehow he wasnt even doing it himself anymore, his body was just that calm on its own.
"Hmm, I dont feel anything in particular, just… chilly, like im near a melting block of ice." he responded, raising a hand to touch some of the particles as they floated next to him.
As he did so, the gentle smoke emanating from him suddenly took a spiky form as if someone blew on it from above, accompanied by a sound similar to porcelain cracking. Damien gasped in surprise, as if someone hit him really hard unexpectedly, and his previously raised hand shot back to clutch his face. The boy's small body bent forward, as he squeaked in pain, both hands now on the right side of his face, continuing to lower down until he was kneeling on the ground, curled into a ball, shaking and sobbing.

@FanfictionFanatic-The-Elder group

“Take your time, chamaco.” she assured him. “Whenever you're ready. There's no rush.” she smiled softly at him. Honestly, she was already looking forward to the idea of him meeting her family. She was sure her mom would just love him and think he was an adorable young man. Her brothers would think he was a little strange but interesting and maybe a little relatable because he was closer to their age… at least he would seem to be. She just wasn't entirely sure what her dad would think of him but she was sure he would like Damien too.

Mari hummed a little at his comment about what he was feeling, simply acknowledging it since she had no idea what to really expect. Though her eyes widened at the way the smoke reacted to his touch and the sudden cracking sound. “Damien!” she yelped as he crumpled to the ground, quickly kneeling beside him and gently placing a hand on his shoulder. “What’s wrong? Are you alright? What happened?” she asked, trying not to panic for his sake.

@Kinarymo

The boy did not reply to her immediately, continuing to shake and cry as if he was in a great amount of pain, continuing to somehow curl further into a ball even though his body wouldn't allow it further. The indistinct cries soon took form as desperate pleads for whatever was hurting him to please stop.
It handn't been the particle that caused him the piercing pain in his head, no, this pain was a familiar one, that he had thought had been gone for good all those years ago when his adoptive mother had nursed him back to health. How could Damien have known reaching for his inner power source could cause its explosive return? Right now he just wanted it to stop, just stop and no longer torture him.
Through the agony, he somehow managed to move away from the source of his power, quickly shaking off its chilly pleasant feeling that had surrounded him so far faster than one could take off a coat and tossing it aside before scrambling to get as far away as he could. As he did, the pain began losing its intensity and decreased continuously until it only left behind a throbbing stiffness. Thank God.
