Pet peeve:

Paranormal fiction where the paranormal's paranormal-ness is an anthropomorphized Other inside of them.
Where the shifter or werewolf is just an actual human with an actual wolf inside of them, to the point they can call it 'their wolf'.

Vampires and werewolves that have 'the beast' or 'the hunger' as a thing inside of them instead of THEM, as a person\creature\entity, WANTING something.

It just strikes me as the worst kind of passive-writing and pandering to try to make readers like the character IN SPITE OF THEIR PARANORMAL-NESS instead of liking them AS A PARANORMAL CHARACTER.

Literally every story has humans in it. This is one of the only chances we as writers get to write an entire other society, and most just… don't. Even when it's about paranormals that were born what they are instead of being forcibly changed, they read just like humans. The missed opportunities just… frustrate me.

So much.
