I'm writing a "side story" about a character's father, the dragon king, and his companions that go to a monster island for a vacation. It's supposed to be a journal of sorts as the father is the one who the story is about, but if I write it in first person I feel like details and events could be lost because he isn't the one who the event is effecting. Like If I wanted to write about his "secretary" getting abducted by a giant bird but I can't write any more than what the father sees, hears and does with only a few details about the "secretary" and what their feeling and doing. Please help.

Hey Derek, I would either keep it as 3rd person so that you could include all the events or you can have an 'all-knowing' character that goes with the Dragon King, like a wizard. If its magical fantasy story then journal could write itself? Like however has it with them, it writes out the events/adventures that happen to the person holding it?
Just some thoughts. :)
