Slow burn romances are the best. Take the romance as slow as you can. So blushing, flirting, pining, etc. Start them off as friends. Maybe make one fall for the other first, and then the other realizes they like them back slowly. Frustrate your readers. I saw an amazing post about this on Pinterest but I can't find it… :(

We need to know them as individuals, and we need to know them as a couple. It has to make sense. Are they compatible? Are they opposites? In either case, we need the proof. What are their relationship flaws? What irritates your character about his/her partner? What do they fight about?
What is the biggest threat to their relationship? Is it external? Is it a character flaw? How do they deal with it?
Can they overcome? Are their obstacles too great? Do they fight or do they give up? Most importantly let them be their own characters don't let the romance plot be all any character is here for (unless it's a straight up romance book but still)

As said above, make the beginning of the romance a slow and steady thing.
Then, once the couple is confirmed, make some fluff. Lots of fluff. Readers love fluff. Have your characters do cute couples things. It will be too cute to be considered stupid.
