Hello fellow writers. I am currently writing a story set in a fantasy world. I am struggling with ways to describe time. I used candlemarks- a term that Mercedes Lackey came up with- but it doesn't feel right. Any and all suggestions are welcome. Thank you :-)

I usually try and stick with something I know and can explain in detail. Sometimes I like to make it where the time is shown through the sun travel and make that a day or create a new word for it if you want it to be set in a more fantastical world. Or you can incorporate shadows. Most of the time I try and pick something that can be explained easily and can be remembered easily so the reader can focus more on the story. I'm just starting a story where it's going to take place in space and on different planets so I can use suns and moons, but it'll be constantly fluctuating. Therefore, I'm going to create a sort of "universal" time code to follow. I suggest finding something that is semi-central to your world and working your version of time into that.
