scientists have devised a method to figure out who your soulmate is. the cells in you and your soulmate's body were together at the big bang, and they've managed to find a way to tell who is assigned to who.
everyone's been losing their shit over the way ppl find their soulmates, right? well fuck that, that's not important.
what happens when you don't have a soulmate?
so let's say your soulmate dies, or you just don't have one(because you're aro, because the system is imperfect, because you just don't match with anyone). naturally, there will be support groups to talk about it. it's natural to have a soulmate, so if someone who doesn't have one joins, they will be prejudiced against. "you're not really suffering, you didn't lose anyone." "you must not have a soul."
what if the world is prejudiced against those without soulmates?
there are events where you need to show your soul marks to get in. there are religions focused on the holiness of being destined for someone else. there are jobs that require you to have met your soulmate, "to show that you are mature enough." relationships out of soul-bond are discouraged. everything is centered on pairs, couples, romance.
what happens when you can't be part of it all?

This looks really cool! Though I'd like to mention that the "your cells were together at the big bang" thing doesn't really make sense haha since our cells don't really exist until we're conceived in our mother's uterus.

Besides that I think it's a really interesting concept and I think you could make very good stories out of it.

@hollow-boned

I think they meant atoms, like as in that one tumblr post where someone scientifically explained soulmates

yeah, that's what i meant

I forcefully restrained myself from saying that before since it isn't so important to your idea, but now it's come up… there also weren't atoms at the big bang. The big bang is supposed to be the origin of space itself. Atoms only formed afterwards (and most matter that formed originally as protons and neutrons - even before arranging into atoms - was instantly destroyed by collision with antimatter). It is kind of difficult to wrap your mind around it!

Still, I don't think why people are soulmates is the most important part of your idea, and the rest of it sounds really interesting! Personally I'd just leave it open, but it's up to you.

i actually don't know that much about the big bang except the very basics, thank you for explaining!

I failed my test on the Big Bang. I just drew God looking down at an easel with circles on it. Maybe this post will inspire you. Maybe it won’t. Just have a nice day.
