Kaito smiled for a moment before it faded.. He was still in a considerable amount of pain, and he wanted to talk to Shuichi, but he couldn't as it just hurt too much to do so…

There was so much Kaito wanted to express, but he didn't know how to.. He just wanted the pain to go away so he could talk to his husband…

Shuichi understood his need. " I can't help you.. and I'm sorry"

Kaito shook his head, trying to tell the other that there was no need to be sorry..

" yes there is!"

Kaito looked away from a moment, shaking his head once more. He didn't want the other to feel sorry for something out of his control…

Shuihi hugged him " why did you take that bullet.." he said softly

"I…I had to…to save you…" It hurt to talk, but he had to answer that question…

Shuichi sighed. " I'd have been fine.."

"I…I couldn't…take that chance….!" He felt bad..

Shuchi shook his head, nuzzling the other.

Kaito looked at the other before looking away, trying to hide the amount of pain he was in..

" I know your hurting" he said softly

He couldn't deny it even if he could, given what happened, but he was trying to hide the extent of the pain.

Kaito looked at him again and smiled ever so slightly, that being all he could manage at the time..

Shuichi sighed. He intertwined their fingers and felt their rings connect

Kaito continued to look at the other. There was so much he wanted to say, ranging from simply telling the other he loved him to trying to assure him that this would all be over soon, but he just couldn't.

Shuichi looked to the other, seeing his longing.

He eventually looked away, finding it pointless to even try to communicate. He truly didn't know how to, and he didn't want the other to worry..
