In a short story that I am writing, I've decided to make a species that are used as messengers! I'll put a description of them below, so feel free to give your opinions as well as any ideas you may have for me to develop them a bit more.

Species Name: Imitan
Name Reasoning: The Imitan are known to mock people and hang onto certain phrases that they hear their owners say. Hence the name Imitan, which is a shortening of the Latin word Imitantur, which means to imitate.
Life Expectancy: 12 years

Species Appearance: The Imitan are furred and feathered creatures that are comparable (by size) to a large dog. Their foreheads are flat and their faces are similar to that of a feline, bearing almond-shaped eyes and half moon noses. Extending from the sides of their heads are large and rounded off ears that are covered in tiny feathers. From the Imitan's shoulders, branch wings composed of large feathers that end in clawed toes. As for tails, most Imitan have nothing more than long tail feathers that branch off of a small nub base.

Coloration: Most Imitan tend to have neutrally colored feathers and fur, with the males bearing brightly colored tail feathers. Their eyes are usually bright shades of yellow and green.

Other: There are "breeds" of Imitan that have yet to be domesticated and tend to be quite a bit larger than their calm cousins. These wild creatures have broader faces and wider wingspans.

Tell me what you guys think! When I was making these, I was thinking of dragons and owls so most of their design is inspired by those two.

I have a couple of pages full of information on this species and I'll probably edit this to be a bit more similar to it. The Imitan are mainly used as messengers and basically every other family has them since technology isn't exactly advanced in the story they come from (they are also more efficient than people in terms of speed and how much they can accomplish in terms of delivering things).
