I don't know much about either, so I've always just avoided giving my characters exact heights or weights. But it seems to be important, so… help? I'm not good with numbers -_-

@joufflucharlie

I made my account today so sufficed to say, I just ran into this problem as well :D. I just looked up average heights and weights for the age and gender of my characters and then went above or below those based on how I pictured them.

@Krystal

If I don't feel like listing the exact weight I will instead describe how they look & whether or not they are healthy rather than exact numbers in those categories.

I've never really had set in stone weights for my characters, but for heights I always like to use http://www.mrinitialman.com/OddsEnds/Sizes/compsizes.xhtml . It lets me compare the sizes of up to 6 characters at a time. So if I have a few characters with no set height, but I know one of them is a good bit taller than the other, I'll throw them in here and play around with the heights till I find a size for both of them that seems suitable. For me it's always easier to figure out heights when I compare multiple characters together.

Unless you are writing your character in a setting where that is needed, it probably is not. If you reflect on other books they don't really describe characters weight since everyone carries it differently, giving people who weight the same different looks. You can always base it off the activities of the character and their lifestyle but theres a body visualizer thing that you can use if you really want to do that.

I signed up today and ran into this as well. For height I just put tall, tallish, short or medium or something but weight I just left blank.

Its not important to list in most cases (the only exception I could think of would be if it was a drama about weight loss or was otherwise a strong theme in your story). If you really don't think you can give an accurate area for the weight then leave it off.
