So, I have two main characters in a story-they are both adorable fluffmuffins but thats not important-who’s personalities are going to change a lot when they grow up. One, Spiriting River, is very timid right now, mostly because of her abusive father, and the other, Glitter Moon, is very playful and outgoing. When they grow up, Spirit(they both have nicknames for obvious reasons) will be much more extroverted and outgoing, very similar to how Moon is now, but Moon will become much more studious and serious. How do I balance these adult personalities with their child personalities so that you see a bit of the child in them still? I don’t want it to seem like they are different people, just young adults who have grown. Luckily for me, there will be a big time jump between child and adult, so I don’t necessarily have to show the development between personalities, but as a result it will be harder for the reader to accept the character growth.

I'm still trying to get over an adult named Glitter Moon ngl. Wait do their black friends say "What's up my Glitter?" Contrast is a funny thing so maybe not giving them their stripper names at birth is a good idea.

You could make it depend on who they interact with. I read a few studies that depending on the group were with we act differently. Example:
character + oldest friends= silly, relaxed, loud
character + older sibling/ parent= prone to taking the backseat and letting others decide while still being silly
character + people fro work = relaxed, in control, serious.

There are some overlapping qualities making it connect but depending on the situation a certain aspect is in the spotlicht

It would be ridiculous until you take into account that they are literally part of a race of magical cats, and names are given very differently. Example: Sparkling Creek, Soul-of-Victory, Nightmare Skip, Myriad-of-Song, yes I did just write those to show off some of my favorite names.

This makes it exactly a million times better. Sorry if it seemed like I was being a dick, didn't mean too I was just joking.

“Regular” cats with magic. They are about twice as big as normal housecats though, and come in weird colors, green, blue, gold, red, etc.

@WaffleWizard

Just make sure that as they grow up things about them change but at the same time somethings don't change.
Pick some personality traits, or maybe hobbies, that suit an introverted or extroverted person (Or cat) and have that be visible when they are a child and an adult.
Good luck!
