"That's seriously the coolest. Thing. Ever. I can't do anything nearly that cool, and not even my siblings can." Alex bounced slightly, imaging the possibilities that could come with powers like that and a large supply of gunpowder.

(Ahhh thanks!)
"Dude, you should come to where I live. I have acres and acres of stuff just waiting to get torched or blown up. Plus, fireworks. The possibilities are endless. How much have you done with your powers?" He climbed to his feet, pacing quickly. "Also, that fire would totally come in handy if you were ever, say, trapped on the top of mount Everest. Except there's no oxygen, so maybe not. Can you make the fire without oxygen? Are you, like, beyond the powers of science?"

Olivia sat up. She was very curious about things that she did not understand. "Yeah! How does it work?" she said excitedly. She wished that she had a pen and paper to write this all down!

Surprised by the sudden attention, Theo sat up straighter. "Well," he started, addressing Olivia. "I've got a Core composed of the 5 superior elements, meaning Fire, Water, Earth, Air and Magic. Everyone in my world has got this Core. Depending on a vast number of factors, one element in your Core becomes dominant, and that is the power you receive. That's the base of it, anyway."
He turned to face Alex next. "As for torching you fields, I'd rather not," he admitted, and as much as he tried to keep it out a harder undertone crept into his voice. "I've had way too many bad experiences with my powers to risk anything like that," he added, more softly.

Theo's eyes widened slightly and immediately clouded over. "Oh…" he said quietly. "Uh, well. There was a war." He stopped there. The pain was still raw and real, and he couldn't face it just yet. He looked down at his hands which he clasped together in his lap.

@Matilda-fan

"Oh, well…I'm sorry for bringing it up then…" Olivia remorsefully said. Why did she have to be so insensitive!?

@amber_is_in_a_loop

"Don't apolgise!" Theo asked of her. "You're curious, I can see that, but I'm not ready to talk about it." He looked up at her, a kind smile on his face. "But it isn't your fault."

@Matilda-fan

"Thanks for being so understanding!" Olivia said. Most of the time when something like this happened, it turned into a fight…

Theo twisted around, glad for a change of subject. "Ah, newbies!" he grinned, waving them forwards. "Welcome to the Unknown." He patted the grass next to him, giving the little girl a friendly wave.

(I'm going to appeal to you guys cause my indecisive self cannot for the life of me pick. I've got a choice between 5 names for a character and I can't choose)
