Knot on my Watch

Prompt: https://pin.it/aqc5yz7rkw5a7i

I stare at my fellow escapee with wide eyes, though I cannot make out any details of the person. I can only assume it is possibly the woman my parents have arranged for me to marry. She has covered her entire body with a cloak which honestly, was a very smart idea. A breeze pushes against me making me shiver, wishing I had donned a cloak like her. Instead, I have only a pair of pants and a shirt that feel ridiculously thin now in the open air. Not wanting to spend any more time just hanging from my bedsheets with at least a 3 story drop below, I nodded to my fellow escapee to keep going down. She also nods her head and we both continue downward, as quickly as we could. We reach the ground rather safely and I quickly untie one of my sheets to wrap it around my shoulders. It is a bit warmer than without but only a bit.

I turn to my fellow escapee who has pulled her hood even lower covering her face and now stands by the trees fidgeting bashfully. I chuckle softly and walk closer to her, "I did not expect to see anyone else climbing down the tower as well." I smirk as I looked down at her. She was rather tiny, as I towered over a foot taller than her.

"Well, Prince Fasir, I did not expect to see anyone else either," She spoke softly. Her voice was a bit deeper than I expected but only barely. It was still beautiful and made him swoon. "I just needed some fresh air without disturbing anyone before tomorrow."

I nod, running my hand through my teal hair looking up to the night sky with a small frown. "Tomorrow... No offense but I have no interest in marrying someone I have never met. My father and kingdom can wait a few years for an heir or whatever." A soft chuckle spills out of her mouth and startles me bringing my attention back to the small girl.

"How is running away for a night going to save you," she asks softly. It almost sounded like she was mocking me.

I snort and look down at her with a smirk, "I am not just running away for a night, thank you very much. I am merely intending to take a night, gather myself and thoughts before expressing them tomorrow." I feel my smirk peel off my face as she crosses her arms and shifts her weight.

"No offense Prince, but do you not think that is selfish? We have come all this way for this marriage and now-"

"No," I interrupt her quite rudely and when she flinches I make sure to take a step back and take a deep breath. Relaxing my shoulders I continue, "What is selfish is expecting me to marry some random woman and only telling me about these plans two days before she arrives."

"Oh..." she whispers so softly. I can feel the last bits of anger seep out of me with how sorry she sounded. "I didn't know. I've known for nearly a month so I thought you knew even longer."

I shake my head, "Unfortunately no. I truly did not know until just a few days ago so I believe I am reasonably peeved."

She nods her head and softly says, "Of course.  You have every reason to be." I smile softly and step closer to wrap my arm around her thin shoulders. She leaned into my touch, though a bit reluctantly and whispers, "I apologize for accusing you."

"I forgive you. I didn't expect you to know my side of the story anyways." I rub my hand up and down her arm and despite the rather thick cloak I can tell her arms are actually quite muscular despite their thinness. "How about we go enjoy this lovely night in preparation for tomorrow?" She nods and I lead her through the garden that separates my home and the rest of the little city.

The city was quiet tonight, so my fellow escapee and I wandered the streets and I learned so much about her.

She was quite the heavy drinker, now not as skilled at holding it down as I but a great drinking partner nonetheless. She was also an amazing dance, while I stumbled around on the dance floor she was breathtaking. Her cloak was no hindrance. If anything it enhanced her dance and gave me a glimpse of the outfit she wore beneath. Her pants were a nice dark blue, finely pressed and obviously made of expensive fabric. Or maybe it was only obvious to me because I wear such fabrics every day. Even my cheapest clothes like the ones I have underneath my bedsheet currently were quite expensive. And her shirt was a lighter shade of blue with the cuffs having just the tiniest frills at the ends.

To my surprise, she did not care much for flowers like my sisters and some of the other women I've dated. I would even argue that I like flowers a lot more than she does. She would much rather lie down in a field and callout the constellations rather than pick flowers. I never paid half as much attention to my astrology lessons than I did that night with her. She didn't even mind window shopping with me at the car dealers! Sure she didn't say much but she also listened with rapt attention and asked for explanations when I brought up a term she didn't quite get.

Her favorite color was blue and she argued that my favorite color, orange, was not a nice color paired along with it despite them being complementary colors! Surprisingly, we are both cat people but do enjoy the company of dogs. And she is a lot less shy once she warms up, with the loveliest laugh and snort.

I fear I have fallen for her, and hard. Which will be quite embarrassing to acknowledge to my father after fighting with him. And she is so sweet, promising to help me fight to put off the marriage for another year. I am sure I will fall even harder if she does manage it.

As the sun rises we return back to my home were our bedsheet ladders await us. I tie the bedsheet from around my shoulders back onto the ladder before turning to her. "Before you go, may I see your face? You expertly kept it from my view all night and I have been dying to see."

She laughs, not her full body snorty one but her shy and almost embarrassed one. "You shall see my face tomorrow, Prince, but I can tell you my name. It is Florence."

"Florence," I whisper and that gains another chuckle from her. I shake my head, "It's a beautiful name. Thank you for accompanying me this fine night Florence."

"The pleasure is all mine, Prince," we give each other a slight bow before laughing. "I shall see you after a short nap." She grabs hold of her bedsheet ladder and I bid her goodbye, watching as she made her way back up to ensure she did not fall.

Once she was safely in her room I also made my way up my own ladder and as soon as I touched my bed I was out.

Before long, my elder sister was wanking me out of bed screaming that I was going to be late for dinner. Well, she wasn't actually yelling but I had a slight headache and wanted nothing more than to return to bed. In fact, I was just seconds from doing that when my sister reminded me that I was to meet my fiance. Florence, just the thought of her alone was enough to make me jump to my feet and excitedly run to get dressed. I'm sure my sister was watching me like I was a madman but I could not care.

I was finally going to get to see Florence's face! Nothing mattered more.

I brushed my teal hair back and styled it best I could even though Florence has already seen it at its worst. I even put water drops in my teal eyes to make them shine. I don't know why I am suddenly so intent on impressing her but I am. We had so much fun last night, I can't wait to meet this new side of her with her family.

Before long I am ready, with my sister escorting me down to the main dining room where everyone was already waiting. My nerves are burning up inside me and I'm just barely keeping myself from skipping ahead and bursting through the two large and extravagant doors ahead. My sister announces my arrival as we walk in and my eyes fly immediately to two people who are the first to stand.

One was a woman and the other a man, both obviously siblings, possibly even twins as their facial structure was nearly identical and their hair color was the same shade of dark blue. There were three major differences between the two. The first was their hair length, the woman's hair reached past her shoulders but only barely and the man's just barely touched the base of his neck. The second was their height, the man was a few inches shorter than his sister. For a moment I thought it was because of her shoes but no, her shoes were just as flat as his. And the third thing was their eyes. The sister had vibrant light purple eyes and the brother and bright light yellow-green eyes that seemed to draw me in. His eyes were glued to me and her eyes, well they seemed to be incapable of looking away from my sister for more than a second.

I walked up to both of them, now conflicted on which one was Florence. I know my fiance is female, and that she realized it was me last night and not my sister but the way she acted was not that of the Florence from last night. Before I could think a second longer the blue-haired siblings' father step forward.

"Prince! We have been eagerly awaiting you! Come, come. You must meet your fiance and brother-in-law." Before I could argue I was being dragged closer to the sister who was definitely taller than Florence.

"Hello Prince," she spoke and it was not Florence, it was too light and airy. "My name is Florentine. It is a pleasure to meet you."

"The pleasure is mine," I choke out. I turn my head to her brother, his head is tilted down shyly as he looks up at me with the timidest and adorable smile. I can feel my heart stop in my chest, "And you must be-"

"Florence," he cuts me off. Florence straightens ever so slightly and I can feel my cheeks burn with the intensity of his gaze.

"Florence," I whisper and I just barely notice the way, Florentine seems to light up at the interaction between me and her brother. Before I could say more my father interrupted.

"Is she not beautiful Prince! Absolutely perfect for you and-"

"Actually father," my sister cuts him off just before I can and honestly I can't even be mad. "I would like to say I am not supportive of this marriage." I feel a smile break out across my cheeks at my sister's support though the look in Florentine's eyes tells me there might be some ulterior motive behind this support.

While my father splutters I quickly back my sister up, "As do I. I have already told that I do not wish to marry someone I have not gotten to properly know yet!"

"But we came all this way," Florence's father cries and before either me or my sister can say anything Florence speaks up.

"I do not support this marriage either! It is ridiculous to force Prince and Flo into a marriage when neither of them had a say or even knew about it until the last minute!" He crosses his arms and Florentine mirrors it.

"What is this about last minute," Florentine exclaims. "I only agreed to this because you said he agreed to this! Now I am hearing that everyone is against it? That is it. This marriage is canceled, besides," she turns to my sister with a confident smile, "I'd much rather get to know Princess if she does not mind."

I smirk and pull my blushing sister closer to her, "Of course she does not mind, right sister?" She nods her head mutely and Florentine takes the opportunity to step closer and take my sister's hands in hers. With the two of them settled I step around them to wrap my arm around Florence who immediately leans into my embrace.

"Of course I'd much rather get to know you more Florence," I whisper in his ear and shivers against me with his adorable chuckle.

"I hoped you would Prince," he says and I doubt I will ever get tired of staring into the eyes of my fellow escapee.
