Overview

Zainab left Pakistan ages ago (8 years to be precise), yet her life lacks a sense of cohesion. Upon arrival in Canada, Zainab experienced more ups and downs than the average person would experience in an entire lifetime, with losing a close friend to murder, and her family falling apart due to her fathers shift towards religious fundamentalism being the two notably negative events causing her family to fall apart. Therefore, a decision is made: a trip to Pakistan, where her family was once whole and a place where she had no worries whatsoever, which will also serve to revitalize her mentally. On the first night back in her hometown, Zainabs plan unravels. While out for dinner with her childhood best friend, Waqar, she is brutally assaulted. To make matters worse, her role in the encounter is questioned by local law enforcement as well as her father, allowing for her abuser to escape scot-free. As Zainab is forced back to Canada, she not only has to confront the trauma of being a victim but must also straddle the line between her local South Asian communitys regressive treatment of women and her adopted homes focus on empowering women like her to succeed in the face of people who would prefer she be hidden from the world. Through it all, one goal never wavers: she must exact revenge against her abuser, no matter the stakes.
