Ridgelet, the Ledge Pokémon — — —

Type: Rock/Ice

Name origin: “ridge” + “-let”

Abilities: Mountaineer, Sheer Force (HA)

Mountaineer: The Pokémon’s well adjusted to mountainous terrain, so it’s not affected by Rock-type moves or hazards. (Grants immunity to Rock-type moves, as well as all entry hazards.)

HP: 40

Atk: 50

Def: 45

SpA: 32

SpD: 41

Spe: 30

BST: 230

Likely tier: LC

Moveset: General Rock- and Ice-type utility, general Rock- and Ice-type moves, pivot moves, some Normal-, Grass- and Fighting-type moves, horn and kicking moves, general strong physical attacking moves, some IoA tutor moves (Steel Roller, Grassy Glide, Triple Axel), most moves attributed to farm Pokémon

Dex entries: “They communicate with bleats across the mountains they live in. If one’s quiet in places where Ridgelet are known to live, it’s possible to catch sight of one on its own.” / “Its favorite food is Oran berries. It kicks the trunks of the bushes and trees they grow on so they all fall off at once.”

Ridgelet evolves into Ruggeram at level 28 and is the first Pokémon in the evolutionary line. Ridgelet is part of the Field egg group only.

Ruggeram, the Peak Goat Pokémon —

Type: Rock/Ice

Name origin: “rugged” + “ram”

Abilities: Mountaineer, Sheer Force (HA)

Mountaineer: The Pokémon’s well adjusted to mountainous terrain, so it’s not affected by Rock-type moves or hazards. (Grants immunity to Rock-type moves, as well as all entry hazards.)

HP: 80

Atk: 115

Def: 90

SpA: 65

SpD: 80

Spe: 60

BST: 490

Likely tier: NU

Moveset: General Rock- and Ice-type utility, general Rock- and Ice-type moves, pivot moves, some Normal-, Grass- and Fighting-type moves, horn and kicking moves, general strong physical attacking moves, some IoA tutor moves (Steel Roller, Grassy Glide, Triple Axel), most moves attributed to farm Pokémon

Dex entries: “Its hind legs are strong and powerful. Its gait is light and measured, however.” / “A single kick from its hind legs on the mountain it lives on could cause an avalanche, so it saves moves involving them as a last resort.” (+ Fight With Monsters journal blurb: “An herbivorous species, though it has few dedicated predators due to its strength […]”)

Why it’s used: High physical attack with Sheer Force, good offensive typing, unique immunity to Rock-type moves in Mountaineer, passable speed under Trick Room or Tailwind, speed ties with common VGC staples such as Incineroar and Spirit Break Grimmsnarl, okay bulk, access to utility moves such as Milk Drink and Cotton Guard

Flaws: Weak to Intimidate, weak to burn, mediocre stats, weak SpD stat, slow even with Trick Room, horrible defensive typing, very likely to be OHKOd before it can move

Ruggeram evolves from Ridgelet at level 28 and is its final stage. Ruggeram is part of the Field egg group only.

Verran Dreepy evolves into Verran Drakloak at level 50 and is the first Pokémon in the evolutionary line. Verran Dreepy is part of the Mineral and Dragon egg groups.

SpD: 107

Spe: 78

BST: 600

Likely tier: UU

Signature move: Machina Beam (Special, Steel-type, 100 BP, 90% accuracy) The user launches a beam of mechanical energy onto the opponent. This move ignores the effects of the opponent’s ability.

Moveset: A modified version of Dragapult-G’s moveset; general Steel- and Dragon-type utility, general Steel- and Dragon-type moves, priority moves, many Ghost-type moves, some Electric- and Fire-type moves, blasting moves, general strong special attacking moves, some IoA tutor moves (Grassy Glide, Rising Voltage, Skitter Smack), most machinery-related moves, Machina Beam

Dex entries: “It’s not man-made, despite its appearance. But scientists theorize that it adapted its body as humanity advanced to keep other predatorial Pokémon away.” / “Its visor has seven different modes for optimal hunting. It can spot prey in any hiding place except for caves.”

Why it’s used: Decent abilities (aside from Light Metal), great offenses and defenses, can be run physical or special, viable mixed attacker, immunity to Ground-type moves with Levitate, hard to kill, awesome bulk, good defensive typing to set up with Dragon Dance

Flaws: Outsped by Dragapult-G by one point after Dragon Dance, can have its role replaced by Stalwart Duraludon in Doubles, awkward speed tier, slower than most things in OU without a Dragon Dance, outclassed by other Dragon Dancers in terms of speed, weak to Intimidate and burn on physical spreads, physical spread outclassed by Dragapult-G due to Clear Body, bad offensive typing

Verran Dragapult evolves from Verran Drakloak at level 60 and is its final stage. Verran Dragapult is part of the Mineral and Dragon egg groups.

Dex entries: “One regular heart isn’t strong enough to supply blood to all three of its heads, so its heart began to use explosive energy to help it beat faster.” / “Its temper is phenomenally short. Even the slightest misgiving can send its three heads into a blazing rage.”

Why it’s used: Awesome offensive typing, good under the sun, great in double battles, very fast, wide movepool, okay physical and special, doesn’t have to worry about burn due to being Fire-type, good coverage

Flaws: Mediocre attacker without boosts, weak to Intimidate, bad defensive typing, bad defenses, 4x weak to Rock-type moves, usually needs Heavy-Duty Boots or Focus Sash in Singles, needs redirection in Doubles, competes with Charizard for a spot in Doubles

Verran Dodrio evolves from Verran Doduo at level 31 and is its final stage. Verran Dodrio is part of the Flying egg group only.

It competes harshly with Druddigon in the mountains it lives on.” (+ Fight With Monsters journal blurb: “A highly dangerous constrictor with venomous fangs, a crushing grip, and a bite force so strong it can chomp through solid steel. Why it’s used: Good physical offense, good speed tier, awesome signature move that functions as a better Fake Out, awesome abilities, okay offensive typing, can be a fast Quick Strike pivot, good status spreader/crippler, great late-game cleaner

Flaws: Horrible defensive typing, offensive typing is good but lacking, outsped and speed tied by many things in OU, can be bypassed for more versatile Fake Outers, low defenses, leaves some things to be desired overall

Kommo-o-V, the Scaleless Pokémon -

Type: Fighting/Dragon

Name origin: “commotion” + “mo’o” + “komodo dragon”

Abilities: Sand Force, Intimidate, Barbarian (HA)

Barbarian: The Pokémon is so barbaric that Fairy-type moves plain have no effect on it.

HP: 85

Atk: 120

Def: 105

SpA: 110

SpD: 95

Spe: 80

BST: 600

Likely tier: OU

Moveset: A modified version of Kommo-o-Alola’s moveset; general Fighting- and Dragon-type utility, general Fighting- and Dragon-type moves, some Ground-, Normal- and Dark-type moves, punching moves, general strong physical and special attacking moves, some IoA tutor moves (Lash Out, Coaching), most brute force moves

Dex entries: “Unlike its Alolan cousins, the Kommo-o of Verra have no scales. Instead, they rely on their practically impenetrable skin to keep them safe from attacks.” / “It lives deep inside caves and in deserts, where it plucks Vibrava from the air and swallows them whole.”

Why it’s used: Strong offenses, nice offensive typing, decent defenses, awesome offenses, immunity to its biggest weakness through Barbarian, a plethora of good abilities to choose from, can run lots of different sets, still holds onto Dragon Dance

Flaws: Low speed stat, mediocre bulk, horrible defensive typing, loses access to its original form’s Clangorous Soul and Belly Drum for boosting, hard to choose between its abilities, loses access to Stealth Rock for its old niche in hazard setting (but it does gain Spikes), outsped by its original form and Galarian Dragapult

Verran Kommo-o evolves from Verran Hakamo-o at level 45 and is its final stage. Verran Kommo-o is part of the Dragon egg group only.

Trivia: Kommo-o does not get the move Scale Shot on its own, but it can be learned by its pre-evolutions Jangmo-o and Hakamo-o. If I could give this a name other than the original name of Kommo-o from its official form, I would name it Scalludrag (scaleless + callus + dragon).

Gardenian Evolution Line

Bulbonion, the Plant Bulb Pokémon —

Unfortunately, Bulbonion’s profile hasn’t been finished yet. Check back later when it’s done!

Gardenian, the Scarecrow Pokémon —

Type: Grass

Name origin: “garden” + “guardian”

Abilities: Scarecrow, Chlorophyll (HA)

Scarecrow: The Pokémon’s scarecrowing prowess allows it to be fully immune to Flying-type moves.

HP: 90

Atk: 80

Def: 100

SpA: 60

SpD: 100

Spe: 60

BST: 490

Likely tier: RU

Signature move: Head Sling (Physical, Grass-type, 90 BP, 90% accuracy) In an act of desperation, the user takes off its own bulbous head and slings it at the opponent. If the Pokémon’s health is under half, this attack’s power is doubled.

Moveset: General Grass-type utility, general Grass-type moves, pivot and priority moves, some Rock-, Dark- and Ground-type moves, general physical attacking moves, some IoA tutor moves (Grassy Glide, Lash Out, Scorching Sands), most spike-related moves, Head Sling

Dex entries: “It’s commonly used by farmers to ward off Flying-type Pokémon. But it’s also found in forests, hunting these Pokémon itself.” / “It fights using strong, swinging punches. In times of danger, it takes off its own bulbous head and slings it at the opponent.”

Why it’s used: Strong and tanky, awesome defenses, epic abilities including Chlorophyll for sun teams, good speed under Trick Room, can be used in SunRoom teams, has a unique ability granting it a unique immunity to Flying-type moves

Flaws: Bad defensive typing (but not as bad as other Grass-types), bad speed outside of Trick Room, speed ties with much of the metagame, bad matchup against a lot of meta Pokémon, outclassed on Sun teams by other Chlorophyll Pokémon, in most cases a Flying weakness can be rectified by a strong 4x resist (see: Copperhed) and a subpar Pokémon’s immunity is not necessary

Gardenian evolves from Bulbonion after a Sun Stone is used on it. It is the evolution line’s final stage. Gardenian is part of the Grass and Human-Like egg groups.

Chatot Evolution Line

Maestronome, the Songbird Pokémon

Unfortunately, Maestronome’s profile hasn’t been finished yet. Check back later when it’s done!

Spazhum, the Cuckoo Pokémon — — -

Type: Normal/Flying

Name origin: “spasm” + “jazz” + “hum”

Abilities: Tangled Feet, Punk Rock, Vertigo (HA)

HP: 76

Atk: 55

Def: 72

SpA: 102

SpD: 92

Spe: 111

BST: 511

Likely tier: OU

Signature move: Dizzy Beat (Physical, Flying, 90 BP, 90% accuracy) The user berates the target’s ears with its wings, causing the opponent to lose its balance. This may leave the opponent confused. (20% chance for confusion)

Moveset: General Normal- and Flying-type utility, general Normal- and Flying-type moves, pivot and utility moves, some Psychic-, Fighting- and Dark-type moves, sound moves, general strong physical and special attacking moves, some IoA tutor moves (Burning Jealousy, Lash Out, Dual Wingbeat), most beak and wing moves, most moves related to music

Dex entries: “Its call is scratchy and distorted, like a broken record. It takes advantage of this to confuse its opponents in battle.” / “It screams as it slashes its enemies with its claws. One said screech from this Pokémon could leave someone with a terrible headache.”

Why it’s used: Awesome abilities, wide moveset, THE SIXTH HIGHEST Attack stat behind Jolly Regigigas with an activated Vertigo ability, great speed tier, likely the best physical Normal/Flying type in the game, can be run physical or special with great sets either way, decent defenses, great offenses, two separate viable abilities with different playstyles for each to trip the opponent up, can be used with a Swagger Pokémon to great effect in Doubles, its sound moves can go through Substitute

Flaws: Bad offensive typing, mediocre defensive typing, outclassed in raw power by Spinda (but Spazhum is more viable due to its greater speed stat), usually forced to run Blueprints and Protect or Substitute in Singles, weak to many common move typings, few resistances, walled by Rock-type Pokémon (who are commonly quite physically bulky) and by the metal birds, worn down by Brave Bird as its main STAB (or not with the weaker Dizzy Beat), can hurt itself in confusion and knock itself out

Spazhum evolves from Chatot after consuming a Throat Spray in battle, while having the ability Tangled Feet. It is the evolution line’s final stage. It’s also a split evolution, with the other possible evolution being Maestronome. Spazhum is part of the Flying egg group only.

Trivia: Spazhum gets Thunder, but not Thunderbolt, as a reference to the move’s name. The only other Pokémon to share this fact are Solosis, Duosion, and Reuniclus.

Sarcodon Evolution Line

Frace, the Little Horn Pokémon — — -

Unfortunately, Frace’s profile hasn’t been finished yet. Check back later when it’s done!

Sarcodon, the Rainbow Jaw Pokémon

Type: Water/Poison

Name origin: “sarcastic” + “-odon” + “chameleon”

Abilities: Poison Touch, Strong Jaw, Light Show (HA)

Light Show: The Pokémon’s brilliantly colored jaws befuddle those who it is attacking so that they may end up confused after. (Gives each of the Pokémon’s damaging moves an additional 20% chance to confuse the target.)

HP: 80

Atk: 120

Def: 100

SpA: 80

SpD: 100

Spe: 35

BST: 515

Likely tier: UU

Signature move: Daze Crunch (Physical, Poison, 100 BP, 80% accuracy) The user chomps down on the opponent’s head and illuminates itself, leaving the opponent dazed and quite possibly confused. (30% chance to cause confusion)

Moveset: General Water-type utility, general Water- and Poison-type moves, pivot moves, many Dragon-, Dark- and Psychic-type moves, some Normal-, Rock- and Fighting-type moves, horn moves and the Fang- moves, general strong physical attacking moves, some IoA tutor moves (Scale Shot, Terrain Pulse, Lash Out), most moves attributed to fossil Pokémon and to those with lights on them, Daze Crunch

Dex entries: “It lights up its colorful mouth to blind its prey. Then it stretches its huge jaws and swallows it whole.” / “Though they are gentle with children, a single venomous bite from this colorful beast will require immediate medical attention.” (+ Fight With Monsters journal blurb: “It lights up its colorful mouth to blind its prey. Though they are gentle with children, its bite is highly poisonous, and immediate medical attention is required if an accident happens.”)

Why it’s used: High physical attack stat, wide movepool, high defenses, great bulk, unique abilities, gets access to good recovery moves and strong attacks in general, very fast under Trick Room, outspeeds Torkoal, the most offensive Pokémon of its typing, can hit very hard with its signature move Daze Crunch and Strong Jaw

Flaws: Weak to Intimidate, weak to burn, weak to many things common in higher tiers (Earthquake, Thunderbolt, Psyshock), outclassed defensively by Toxapex, sweepers often run coverage moves to get rid of Toxapex and so will get rid of Sarcodon too, very slow speed stat outside of Trick Room, doesn’t get Toxic or Toxic Spikes (but it does get Stealth Rock)

Sarcodon evolves from Frace at level 34

and is its final stage. Sarcodon is part of the Water 1 and Monster egg groups.

Trivia: It gets Aurora Veil, despite not being an Ice-type or Hail setter.

Tapu Draco Forms

Tapu Draco-Lightweight, the Island Spirit Pokémon — — — — — — — — -

This Pokémon has multiple forms. This is the Lightweight one.

Type: Dragon/Fairy

Name origin: “tapu” + “draco”

Abilities: Weak Armor, Telepathy (HA)

HP: 70

Atk: 100

Def: 90

SpA: 110

SpD: 80

Spe: 120

BST: 570

Likely tier: OU

Moveset: General Dragon- and Fairy-type utility, general Dragon- and Fairy-type moves, pivot and priority moves, some Fire-, Grass- and Psychic-type moves, the Fang moves, general strong special attacking moves, some IoA tutor moves (Scale Shot, Misty Explosion, Terrain Pulse, Skitter Smack, Burning Jealousy, Lash Out), most moves attributed to draconic Pokémon

Dex Entries: “An island deity that was forgotten by time. It tries its best to protect its home’s inhabitants, but most of the time its timid nature prevents it from taking action.” / “When it doesn’t have its favorite shell to hide in, it protects itself with makeshift driftwood armor instead.” (+ Fight With Monsters journal blurb: “An island deity that was forgotten by time. It tries its best to protect its home’s inhabitants, but most of the time its timid nature prevents it from taking action. It’s protecting itself with driftwood, since it’s missing its favorite shell.”)

Why it’s used: Good defensive typing, physical-oriented defenses, high speed, the fastest Tapu, great ability, good movepool, can be a great Shell Smasher, hard checks other Dragon-types, access to awesome moves in Draco Meteor and Moonblast, can be run physical or special (though special builds are far superior), walls Dragapult

Flaws: Hard walled by Steel-types on sets without Flamethrower/Fire Blast, basically required to run a Fire-type move because of this, frail, bad offensive typing, has to rely on its coverage moves to work, Shell Smash sets are basically required to run Focus Sash or White Herb with a very predictable attack choice, not many opportunities to put its wide movepool into use, easily taken out by STAB/super effective priority, walled by bulky Fairy-types

Tapu Draco doesn’t evolve into or from anything, but it is part of the Alolan Tapu legendary squad. It has an alternate form in Tapu Draco-Heavyweight, which can be accessed by bringing it to the “strange tree” on Exeggutor Island. Tapu Draco is part of the Undiscovered egg group; it cannot breed.

Tapu Draco-Heavyweight, the Island Spirit Pokémon — — — — — — — — — -

This Pokémon has multiple forms. This is the Heavyweight one.

Type: Dragon/Fairy

Name origin: “tapu” + “draco”

Abilities: Shell Armor, Telepathy (HA)

HP: 70

Atk: 90

Def: 100

SpA: 80

SpD: 110

Spe: 120

BST: 570

Likely tier: OU

Moveset: General Dragon- and Fairy-type utility, general Dragon- and Fairy-type moves, pivot and priority moves, some Fire-, Grass- and Psychic-type moves, the Fang moves, general strong special attacking moves, some IoA tutor moves (Scale Shot, Misty Explosion, Terrain Pulse, Skitter Smack, Burning Jealousy, Lash Out), most moves attributed to draconic Pokémon

Dex Entries: “The plumage on its tail is said to have been designed for the five guardian deities, with whom it had good relations in the past.” / “When presented with danger, it flees into its hand-crafted shell and hides among the Exeggutor it has been assigned to protect.” (+ Fight With Monsters journal blurb: “The plumage on its tail is said to have been styled after old friends who passed on a long time ago. When presented with danger, it flees into its hand-crafted shell and hides among the islanders it has been assigned to protect.”)

Why it’s used: Good defensive typing, great defenses, high speed, the fastest Tapu, decent abilities, good movepool, can be a great Shell Smasher, hard checks other Dragon-types, easily gets off with one or even two Shell Smashes due to its typing and defenses, walls Dragapult, can be run physical or special (its movepool favors the special side, but its stats are that of a physical attacker), bulky enough to get away with a White Herb over a Focus Sash

Flaws: Hard walled by Steel-types on sets without Flamethrower/Fire Blast/Smolder Slash, basically required to run a Fire-type move because of this, bad offensive typing, has to rely on its coverage moves to work, Shell Smash sets commonly run the same three move types (though there is variance in what category and specific moves they are) easily taken out by STAB/super effective priority after two Shell Smashes, walled by bulky Fairy-types (unless they’re passive or you can Shell Smash on the switch)

Tapu Draco doesn’t evolve into or from anything, but it is part of the Alolan Tapu legendary squad. It has an alternate form in Tapu Draco-Lightweight, which can be accessed by bringing it to the “strange spot” on Exeggutor Island. Tapu Draco is part of the Undiscovered egg group; it cannot breed.

Cognito Evolution Line

Coonper, the Scrap Panda Pokémon — -

Unfortunately, Coonper’s profile hasn’t been finished yet. Check back later when it’s done!

Cognito, the Obsession Pokémon — — -

Type: Dark/Steel

Name origin: “cog” + “incognito”

Abilities: Technician, Gear Stealer, Pickpocket (HA)

Gear Stealer: The Pokémon’s excessive greed for gears powers up moves of its type when they are used against a Steel-type Pokémon.

HP: 80

Atk: 100

Def: 90

SpA: 60

SpD: 90

Spe: 80

BST: 500

Likely tier: RU

Moveset: General Dark- and Steel-type utility, general Dark- and Steel-type moves, pivot and priority moves, some Normal-, Fighting- and Electric-type moves, the Fang moves, general strong physical attacking moves, some IoA tutor moves (Burning Jealousy, Lash Out, Poltergeist), most moves attributed to thieving Pokémon, gear-related moves

Dex Entries: “It breaks into buildings and gouges its claws into walls, searching for the shimmer of the gears that every Cognito is drawn to.” / “It has a strange affinity for gears and mechanical objects. It viscously attacks Klingklang, only to throw them aside when it realizes they aren’t the real thing.”

Why it’s used: A good Steel type check with Choice Band Gear Stealer Pursuit, very good defensive typing, walls the metal birds and Zacian barring Close Combat, can almost always OHKO Zacian with 4x effective Gear Stealer Iron Head even without Choice Band AND full HP/Def bulk, can be ran alongside things like Tapu Draco that are commonly walled by Steel types, many good Steel types are already weak to Dark or Steel or would be so without their Steel typing, creating a gateway in the metagame for Cognito

Flaws: 4x weak to Fighting, susceptible to Intimidate and burn, subpar stats, most sets other than Steel killing sets are subpar to a Bisharp set of the same idea, has Archeops syndrome, only has a niche in teams that REALLY need a Steel counter (and even then something like Landorus would do the job better), Magnezone can do the same thing much more efficiently with Overheat, and that’s not all because Toxicannon takes care of the Steel-type problem too

Cognito evolves from Coonper after using the move Thief or the move Snatch on a Steel-type Pokémon in battle, or after Pickpocket is activated to steal an item from one. It is the evolution line’s final stage. Cognito is part of the Field and Human-Like egg groups.
