Stephen Weber
- Absent-Minded Professor: Stephen isn't legally employed, but he does have a lab and does science at home. He's very intelligent in his field of expertise, but "life stuff" is not his thing. He's not very good at taking care of himself, socializing with others, paying bills, finding a job, etc. The exception of this is with his loved ones, especially his wife, Chelsea.
- Beneath the Mask: Stephen makes himself try to appear "calm" or "neutral" in public when, in reality, he's not. He's made an effort to hide the more unusual part of himself for years. His views, his behavior, and his dubious science work alienate him from others. Only Chelsea knows about his lab and accepts him for it, as long as he doesn't do anything that could get him in serious trouble.
- The Perfectionist: He's not as exaggerated as this trope, but it still applies. He was raised comfortably, but with very high standards. His parents wanted nothing but the best for and from Stephen. He caught onto this mindset himself. He's quite ambitious and is full of ideas. He doesn't like the idea of being just "passing" in his work. He wants to be groundbreaking and make something new. Sometimes he worries about not being "good enough".
- Sore Loser: Stephen isn't a "sore loser" in the traditional sense, but he hates losing control of himself. He wants to do things right. If he's doing something irresponsible, it's okay, because he's doing it. He gets very upset when his fate is out of his hands. Emotionally speaking, it's people disliking him for the way he thinks. Physically speaking, it's being sick, injured, or under the influence of any drug. Not being in control of his actions is one of his worst fears.
- Loners are Freaks: This applies to him as a teenager/young adult. Although Stephen still has his "moments", he's much better now. When he was younger, he had problems. He was not only lost on how to support himself in "the real world", he also felt rejected by everyone. On the surface, he got along okay. But being close to anyone was nearly impossible. He became wary of others. He hated it when people tried to befriend him because he knew how it would end.
- Workaholic: Again, he's not as exaggerated as this trope, but it still fits. Stephen is very fond of his inventions and science work. Once he gets into it, he finds it hard to stop. Sometimes he works for too long without realizing it, and must be forced to take a break before he gets hurt.
- Subverted Trope: One would expect that, since he's a scientist, he'd be very intellectual and logical. He's intelligent, but he's actually more idealistic and "head in the clouds" than anything else. He sees science as an infinitely expanding puzzle to solve, and he wants to be the one to find new pieces to add. He can get caught up in his ideas and plans, sometimes to the point that they aren't very realistic. He's more emotional and value-driven than one would think.
- Power of Trust: Stephen with his wife, Chelsea. She helped him out of his shell. She accepted him for who he was, as long as he promised to be careful. She helped him realize that, while others' treatment of him was harsh, he had things to improve about himself. She showed him that it was okay to trust people and be vulnerable sometimes. Stephen is immeasurably grateful for Chelsea.
- Happily Married: Again, Stephen and Chelsea. They're a very loving and sweet couple. They comfort each other when things get rough, and better each other when things are going well. They also encourage one another to try new things: Chelsea suggested that Stephen joins a book club (to make friends). Stephen suggested that Chelsea, who is a writer, explores various genres. More variety means more opportunities for success, after all.
Chelsea Anne-Weber
- Happily Married: See above.
- Pride: Not negative, as the trope is often portrayed. Chelsea is confident in herself as well as respectful to others. She gives encouragement and advice to those whose self-esteem doesn't come as easily, like Stephen. She doesn't let people's insults or slights get her down. Most of the time, she keeps her cool and lets things go (or straight up ignores the offending person).
- Closer to Earth: Chelsea is level-headed and practical. Unless things are really bad, she is skilled at keeping calm during a crisis.
- Subverted Trope: One would expect that, since she's a writer, she would be very imaginative. Although she can be creative as well, she's generally focused on the concrete and tangible. She also bakes as a hobby, which is quite hands-on. Although she is more driven by personal feelings than logic, she knows when to be no-nonsense and take the rational route. (This links with the trope above.)
- Headbutt of Love/Lap Pillow/Non-Standard Kiss: Chelsea is quite physically affectionate, and Stephen catches onto this behavior as well. They often pat each other on the back, rub shoulders, hug each other, kiss each other on the cheek, or touch foreheads. It's Chelsea's way of showing she cares, and Stephen's way of showing he trusts his wife wholeheartedly.
- Opposites attract: Sort of. Although Chelsea and Stephen aren't exact opposites by any means, they do complement each other nicely. (See the Subverted Trope for both of them.)
- Playful Otter: Not exactly, but Chelsea does have her playful moments. She likes to tease and joke around with those she's comfortable with. She might make puns or have the occasional tickle fight (which she will win).
That's all for now. Thanks for reading! :)
