Yllmadaya Aalsyur
- Vain Sorceress - although Yllmadaya mostly became immortal because of her deep fear of death, vanity might have played a small part too
- Wicked Witch - Yllmadaya is based off of fairytale witches, having many of the notable characteristics like living in the forest, wears dark clothes, and being a potion maker
- Anti-Hero - Yllmadaya lacks many conventional traits of a hero, acting selfishly, having little care for morals, and being based off of villain characters
- Jerk With a Heart of Gold - Yllmadaya is often cruel and selfish but deep down cares deeply about the people she loves and is willing to go to great lengths for them
- Dark and Troubled Past - Yllmadaya had a turmoiled past
- Really 700 Years Old - Yllmadaya appears to be in her late thirties but is actually over 200
- Defrosting Ice Queen - Yllmadaya is cold to most people but warms up to those she loves
- Mistaken Age - Yllmadaya is frequently mistaken to be far younger than she is and she also often misjudges other people's age, having forgotten how normal human growth works.
Kydrei Nol
- The Atoner - Kydrei feels great regret over her past mistakes and is motivated to make up for them
- Really 700 Years Old - Kydrei appears to be in her late thirties but is actually over 200
- Who Wants to Live Forever? - Kydrei is upset with her immortality and wishes to grow old
- Thou Shalt Not Kill - After accidentally causing the deaths of several people, Kydrei has sworn to never take another life
- The Drifter - Kydrei is often travelling from town to town, doing good acts
- The Medic - Kydrei is the healer of the party
Reid Iobel
- Tagalong Kid - Reid is the youngest and most inexperienced of the group at sixteen
- Constantly Curious - Reid wants to learn all he can about the world and is frequently asking questions
- Farm Boy - Reid grew up with a simple life on a farm but is moving on to greater things
- The Apprentice - Kydrei and Yllmadaya often act as mentors to Reid
- Coming-of-Age Story - Reid learns to mature throughout the book, becoming more independent and gaining the respect of his peers
- Most Definitely Not Accompanying Us - Yllmadaya and Kydrei often insist that Reid stay behind on dangerous endeavors, seeing him as less competent
- Easily Impressed - Reid hasn't seen a lot and is very quickly excited over magic and seeing different parts of the world
Nikellai Aflarec
- Age Without Youth - Nikellai has a different kind of immortality than Yllmadaya and Kydrei. His conscience is immortal but his body still ages, now resembling a corpse
- A Pupil of Mine Until He Turned to Evil - Nikellai was formerly one of Yllmadaya's students but betrayed her later in life
- Immortality Seeker - Nikellai is seeking true immortality so he can stop his aging
- Facial Horror - Nikellai's face has deteriorated
- Cool Mask - Nikellai almost always wears a mask to obscure his face
- Evil Counterpart - Nikellai has many parallels to Yllmadaya and Reid
False Prophet
Book in General
- Cast Full of Rich People - a majority of the main cast are nobility
- Succession Crisis - much of the book's conflict is caused when the Alyamora family is almost entirely wiped out, leaving no heir to the throne
- Rightful King Returns - subverted, the supposed rightful heir is actually a fraud
- Dances and Balls - there are a lot of dances and balls
- Decadent Court - the court is ruthless, many people willing to engage in illicit activity to gain power
- Gaslamp Fantasy - most of the technology is based off of late 18th century inventions. However, that technology is not yet widespread and mostly limited to upper class people
Sarus
- Rags to Royalty - Sarus starts the book living in poverty but becomes the Prophet Heir
- The Wrongful Heir to the Throne - Sarus is the wrongful heir because he is not actually Lleyan, nor does he have any actual prophetic powers
- Fake Wizardry - Sarus claims to be a prophet, but either his prophecies are faked or they are actually Khirim's divinations
- Unluckily Lucky - Sarus is brought out of a poverty and into a life of luxury through a series of random incidents, but it also brings him into the ruthless royal court and put under threat of imprisonment or execution if exposed
- The Heart - Sarus is very kind and tries his best to help others
- The Social Expert - Sarus has a very strong understanding of social situations and getting along with other people
- Nice to the Waiter - having lived most of his life with a low status, Sarus is much more empathizing and kind to the servants
- Lessons in Sophistication - since he grew up on the streets, Sarus has to learn proper etiquette and other expected skills to impersonate Lleyan
Khirim Vyur
- Tall, Dark, and Snarky - Khirim is tall at 6'5" with dark features and frequently makes snide remarks behind people's backs. And I think he's handsome :)
- The Dandy - Physical appearance is important to nobles, and Kiram is often concerned about his appearance
- Royal Brat - Kiram is a lord who grew up in great privilege and frequently acts entitled
- The Rival - Kiram is jealous of Sarus for becoming the Prophet Heir and often competes with him, but are forced to work together and pretend to be friends in public
- Professional Butt-Kisser - Kiram often sucks up to people in power, desperate to rise in ranks
- Attention Whore - Kiram loves to be in the spotlight and often tries to steal it from others
Khavilis Halisia
- The Napoleon - Halisia is short in stature and temper
- The Rival - Halisia acts as a rival and antagonist to Sarus,
- Cassandra Truth - Halisia is convinced that Sarus is a fraud and is very public about her suspicions, but most people don't believe her
- The Determinator - Halisia is extremely strong willed and is not one to give up
- Spirited Young Lady - compared to most of the other nobles, Halisia stands out for not following some of the social expectations of the court and is a bit of an outsider
Azana
- The Manipulative Bastard - Azana is extremely controlling, viewing many of the people around her as pawns
- Evil Matriarch - Azana acts as the matriarch of the Valarae's Order and her own family, often acting cruel and using those that are below her
- Simple, Yet Opulent - Azana is not as flashy as most nobles, but still wears elegant clothing
Taysali
- Mad Oracle - many people believe that Taysali has gone mad with grief and the quality of her prophecies have suffered because of it
- The Cassandra - many of Taysali's prophecies are true but no one believes in them
- Screw Politeness, I'm a Senior! - Although Taysali is polite to most, she is openly disdainful of Khirim and often brusque about it
- Sole Survivor - Taysali is the only Alyamora that survived the fire, the rest of her family all dying
