It's strange, how quiet the world has become. The sounds of traffic, the hum of electricity, all gone. No more static, no more bustle. The creatures long since disabled it all.

Somewhow, They even disabled the nuclear energy sites without casuing them to melt down. That's why there's no fallout.

Nothing is what it seems anymore, even. Sometimes, you think you hear children playing in residential streets long "cleansed" of life. Staircases can lead to an entirely different part of the world, doorways can simply lead to brick walls, streets suddenly end in a cliffface where there shouldn't be one.

Entire sections of city trailing wires and roots float, defying every known law of nature to stay there. Rivers can be seen flowing backwards in some parts of their stream, or even not flowing at all. Everything looks like it's been abandoned for centuries, though it's only been. . . what, two years?

Whatever caused this, it certainly wasn't anywhere close to human. . . though They imitate them very well. They're everywhere. You can hear Them whispering eerily, repeating things They heard in humanity's final moments, though those final moments weren't chaotic; rather, most humans seemed to just disappear. No warning, no sound, just gone. Those that remain never go into the main cities. That's where They tend to congregate.

Everyone that's left knows not to touch Them. Touch Them, and you disappear too.

They are mostly invisible, only noticeable by the slight distortion of light around Them. The most telling way of seeing if They're nearby is lights. Lights start to dim or flicker when They're near, and once They are close enough, the lights shut off completely. Light seems to serve as an attractor to Them, though, so be wary

Lately, They seem to be. . . evolving. They can be attracted to noise, now. They don't seem to hunt, rather preffering to let prey stumble into Them. That's changing, but slowly enough to not be too concerning - yet.

Since the start of all of this, humans have also begun to change. So have the flora and fauna.

At first, it was minor, barely noticeable changes, like lighter skin color across all races, or darker hair colors. Flora was mutating to become predatory, and usually cdocile fauna was getting supersized or mutated to become hyper-aggressive. Then it progressed into sharper hearing or improved night vision in humans, or fully carnivorous trees, or such agressive wildlife that even another creature like it can set it into a bloodrage, while normally predatory wildlife became so docile they started to dwindle rapidly in nu,ber. Some of the most advanced "mutations" give people strange powers, like increased strength or light-producing organelles on their forearms and back of their hands, or give plants the ability to uproot theirselves and wander, and give wildlife the ability to alter their appearance to hide and hunt better. Some humans even have altered body structures, and these specimens. . . well, they never seem to keep their sanity for very long.

Whatever these creatures are that caused the downfall of the world as we knew it, They are causing these mutations. They are slowly changing the entire world, and it's getting bad.

You (Character B) are in the earlier stages of mutation, with obviously lighter skin than a normal huaman's and a series of other subtle but useful mutations. I (Character A) seem to be in the later stages of mutation, with nearly pure white skin and black hair, eyes bleached of color. The two of us decide to figure out what caused these creatures to appear, after meeting in rather unusual circumstances (TBD - will be decided in the starter, most likely). An unlikely partnership is forged, and secrets are revealed that call into question the very existance of what you call your "self." What will result of this information? Will you let it consume you, like They are slowly consuming what's left of the world? Or maybe you'll stop it all. . . only time will tell.

Rules

  1. Andrew's Rules.

  2. Be active at least once a day; I'm starting be online more often but I may disappear for days at a time and I'll tray and let you know beforehand.

  3. Since there are mutations that can be a bit overpowered, I'll be giving a list of possible mutations that are acceptable at the middle stages of your character's mutations, which includes earky mutations; since I'll be a little later in the mutations, my list will look different than yours, with some mutations being basic improvements of whatever mutations I say you can have and some being entiely different. There will be chanvces for your character's mutations to improve.

  4. There's no upper limit to response length, but give me more than one word or sentance to work with. Also, have good grammar; at the very least, use proper punctuation.

  5. There will be no racism or sexism or anything else like that. At all.

  6. If there's romance, we'll keep it to cuddling and stuff. No smut or anything like that.

I think that's all, really. Here's a potato for sitting through all of that: 🥔

@andrew flash_on

(Oh, alright!)
(William, give me a bit to set up a mutation sheet and a character temp, and then once that's all good we can start!)

@William

(Sounds good! Can't wait. Just as a heads up I'm travelling for the next four days and then starting on the 30th, I'll be taking a six week road trip. I should be able to reply once a night, but if you don't hear from me it's because I don't have internet. I will be active tho!)
