Person A and B are roommates. They share their apartment in a city, they live together. Maybe they like each other. Maybe they don’t. Maybe it’s sort of complicated. But they live together, yeah?
Except: both live a secret life. And both have frankly come very close to each other in their ‘secret life’, yet remain unaware that that’s their roommate. In fact, Person A is a monster hunter - Person B, a monster. Do you know where this is going?

Monsters, as far as anyone’s concerned, don’t exist. The general public remains unaware of them, of what goes bump in the night. Of why animals might go missing, or in some cases, even people. Except for the hunters, which have taken it upon themselves to hunt these creatures. Person A first moved to this city for that exact reason, to hunt the monster. The monster had been rumoured for causing trouble in the area. Little did they know that the monster would be walking right under their nose.

Neither A nor B know each other’s identities, but who knows how that’ll last? The elusive monster, escaping the hunter’s clutches each night - and the monster, narrowly making an escape as their life flashes before their eyes.

Person A and B - living a secret life when things go dark, living a somewhat normal life during the daytime. And of course, they’re roommates.

Yeah. Could be a romance RP, this once.

Person A: the monster hunter
Person B: the monster

I would prefer to be person B.
If I do not recall your writing style, I will ask for a sample.
As always, LGBTQ+ friendly.
My character will most likely be male.

Here are clarifications:

  • the type of monster A is hunting is unknown, much to their dismay (and maybe surprise). This means it’s trial and error with figuring out weaknesses and strengths.
  • they’ve been living together for 6 months in total, meaning A has failed to catch B for half a year now (although not unusual, since hunts can take pretty long either way).
  • monsters, as I said before, remain hidden to the general public. Both monsters and hunters are very strict when it comes to hiding their identity (except for ‘feral’ monsters, who possess no human forms and are highly aggressive)

And the rules:

  1. Do not autohit, but don’t dodge everything either. Play to your strengths, but remember your weaknesses.
  2. Mature RPers, please. There may be some dark topics referenced depending on where the RP ends up going.
  3. And as always, swear to your heart’s desire!
  4. Ask questions as needed. I’ll be pleased to answer.
  5. Response time may vary, from same day to several days later. Please keep that in mind!
  6. Absolutely no one liners. I’ll swing you into the sun if you do one even though you’ve read this rule
  7. Please try to have good grammar/punctuation!
  8. Say the sexytimes somehow happen in this, it’ll probably be a fade to black sort of thing. Sorry. I’m not good at writing that stuff, nor am I extremely fond of reading it.
  9. If you have any ideas for this..let me know.
  10. This list may change (most likely won’t, but I always mention this just in case).

((Can you elaborate on pairing preference? And as for monsters..vampires, werewolves, etc, pretty much all popular monsters exist in this world and generally have a human form. Most monsters that aren’t known for having human forms have one in this world. Uncommon, or not so known monsters may also exist. And ones that you just make up on the spot (like I’m doing for my character) also exist. Monsters such as dragons would be one of the more uncommon/near extinct monsters; more common monsters are half-dragon. If you have any specific monsters you’d like to question please ask!))

@FanfictionFanatic group

(Ok. That is helpful. … I do have a dragon/half-dragon boy that was supposed to be an MC for a story I was writing (might still continue it…) but he could use a little development.)

@FanfictionFanatic group

(Oh! Oops! I just reread your prompt and saw the part about you being the monster… Sorry, about the misunderstanding 😅 I’m totally fine with being the hunter.)
(What I originally meant by pairing was about the LGBTQ+ comment. I guess I could have phrased that a little better.)

@Mojack group

((That’s fine, that’s fine lol. I misread things occasionally as well lol.))
((I’m fine with any types of pairings. All are welcome for this rp.))

@FanfictionFanatic group

Name: Marcus “Marc” Malone
Aliases: (can't think of any atm…)
Gender/pronouns: he/him/his
Age: 23
Sexuality: biromantic demisexual (openly flirts with both men and women, but is a little more discreet with men.)

Appearance: Marcus stands at about 6’/6’2”, has short, somewhat spiky sandy blonde hair, grass green eyes, and a bright smile. He has a broad-shouldered build, very well-muscled but has a fair number of scars from hunting and isn't really ashamed of them. He just has a hard time coming up with other reasons why he has them.
Clothing: he doesn't really care much about what he wears but he's kind of a t-shirt kind of guy… He does like khaki and camo shorts. But he usually wears all black when he goes out at night.
Personality: Despite being guarded on certain things, generally, he has a very warm personality. Can be a bit immature though he does have a serious side, he only shows at night or when things get really bad.
Background: Marc learned about monsters and hunters from his father, who was also one, and he suspects his grandfather was one too but he never got a chance to find out for sure, so he takes great pride in his lineage. All through high school, he dedicated himself to athletics and participated in wrestling, basketball, swimming, boxing, track, and weight lifting while his dad taught him some hand-to-hand techniques and how to use certain weapons. Once he moved to this city, he took a job at a local gym as an instructor and swimming supervisor/coach.
Strengths: physical strength, good with guns, very good at keeping secrets.
Flaws: overly critical, especially on his hunts, and definitely isn't a morning person as he needs two/three cups before he's actually awake enough to talk.
Other: he knows some trial and error first aid. As a fun fact, Marc can do a very good impression of a British and Irish accent.

@Mojack group

Name: Roch Lajos
Aliases: none as of now
Gender/pronouns: Male (he/him)
Age: 23
Sexuality: Bisexual Biromantic

Appearance:
Human
6’3” in height, with a lanky build. Doesn’t have much muscle on his human form. His hair is naturally brown, but was dyed sunflower blond at some point. However, the dye has begun to fade - so his hair is more of a mixture of blond and brown, the ends retaining the most dye. His eyes are dark brown, and he has pale skin.
While his hair doesn’t reach his shoulders, it goes below his ears by the slightest bit. Slightly wavy hair - would normally not let it get this long, he’s probably going to cut it soon. Has a stubble - cannot grow a beard.

Monster
Large, towering over humans - but surprisingly nimble and stealthy. The creature commonly walks bipedally, usually hunched over - commonly spotted crouched down. Standing straight up seems to be a method of intimidation.
What word comes to mind looking at it? Reptilian. Clad in dark green scales, Roch’s monster form also has the ability to temporarily change his scale colour in order to blend in better, though the ability is limited. Two pairs of arms - one pair is normal sized, the other pair are smaller, more suited to carefully holding things. Either way, both are fitted with sharp black claws.

Long, flexible tail, slightly prehensile. Appears to have gills - capable of swimming, maybe? The long snout (similar to crocodilians) might suggest the creature would’ve caught fish or other small creatures, but what’s something like this doing so far from water? Able to unhinge jaws - mouth is filled with two rows of sharp, even teeth. Eyes are green. Black quills tipped red on head, shoulders, back - seem to be a method of intimidation.

Clothing: He doesn’t have a wardrobe filled with much variety. His most common outfit are cargo pants (black), a black long sleeve shirt. Brown short sleeve leather jacket. Very occasionally wears a light brown fisherman’s hat.
He does not wear clothes in his monster form - that would be inconvenient.
Personality: English is not his first language - and to begin with, Roch isn’t very good at interacting with others at all. Not speaking his native language, he can miscommunicate terms at times. He’s not a very diplomatic, peaceful person, but he’s also not going out of his way to start conflict - likely he is unaware that he’s agitating people; that’s just how he is. Roch is easily annoyed, with low patience. Yet he has a humorous side, and tends to take things lightly. Can be childish/petty at times. He is also aware of his identity and that he must be cautious.

Background: Like most monsters, Roch came from a monster heritage. Yet up until six months ago, his species has remained in hiding - Roch was the first to jump from the norm and break contact with his family. Roch enjoys the city very much. But for a while, he was wandering around cluelessly, having to get used to human slang and interactions with each other.
In his past, he had an education - participated in high school, attempted university but ended up dropping out about halfway through.
Roch also at one point got involved with some shady humans. He’s still involved with them, but it’s not something he’ll reveal to just anyone. In fact, Roch himself is the only one who knows about this secret as of now.
He doesn’t have any official ‘normal’ jobs, but he gets around, does small bits of work here and there. Has to make some money somehow.

Strengths: Smart - verbally, he may not show it, but he’s a bit more intelligent than he lets on. His monster form, of course, is a strength in itself. He’s also bilingual (Hungarian and English).
Flaws: Lazy, preferring to use a minimum amount of effort. Although he can be smart, he usually doesn’t think about the holes in his plans. He’s also not very strong in human form.
Other: Sweet-tooth.

((Looks good! I’ll work on a starter.))

@Mojack group

When Roch first came to the city, he hadn’t realized there had been a hunter here. Of course he’d heard the stories that his family told him, that they warned about. And of course, he dismissed them all, somewhat regretting it now as he thinks back to last night.

The monster - in human form, of course - resided in his own room in the shared apartment. His blinds were shut, shrouding the room in darkness, although he could see the faintest hint of sunlight beyond them if he craned his neck to look. The encounters first started about six months ago, and while they didn’t happen every night he went out - if he even went out to begin with. Roch didn’t go out each night.
But back to the point - while they didn’t happen every night, when they did happen, it was always alarming, the chase. He wasn’t even sure who this hunter was, if he’d seen the hunter in his human form. Unfortunately, shifting back from monster form to human form didn’t always mean you retained your memories.

He tastes the faint aftertaste of iron in his mouth. Blood, he reckons. He was out last night, and he recalls the encounter as vividly as he can. He’s not sure who’s blood it is - probably prey, he realizes, with a faint hint of shame.
Sitting up, Roch looks to his alarm clock. It’s about 8am, or getting close to it. He’s not much of a morning person, but he also hasn’t been able to sleep much throughout the night. No point in going to bed now - if he does, he’s just going to sleep in, and risk ruining his already fragile sleep schedule.
After a moment of sitting in silence, Roch stretches and yawns. He’d better get up now, and start preparing for the day ahead of him.

@FanfictionFanatic group

(Sorry had to work and I wasn't able to type up a reply sooner.)

Marcus let out an annoyed grumble as he slapped the snooze button on his alarm clock. After the night he had, eight a.m. was far too early to even consider getting up. But he knew he had to. He wasn't sure if Roch had already woken up and started coffee or not. He couldn't smell any so chances were low on that.

With another groan, he forced himself to get out of his bed and rubbed his forehead slightly. He had come so close to catching that monster last night! He’d been chasing that overgrown lizard for six months now and had nothing to show for it! A few new scratches and scars maybe but… The creature was still out there.

Forcing the situation out of his head for the time being, he quickly took off his clothes from last night and into a pair of sweatpants before staggering out of his room towards the coffee maker.

@Mojack group

((No worries!))

Roch gets himself changed for the day. He pauses, for a moment, taking the time to check his body for any wounds - or signs. Not all transformations were extremely fluid, and some left residue of the monster form. He sighed in relief, spotting nothing. He recalls the last time he woke up with spines on his back - that wasn’t a very pleasant time, and something he rather push back into the depths of mind.
There were no open wounds. Aside from the scars, which surprisingly, there weren’t many of - he was clean. He continued to get ready.

Roch shook his head, peering into his own mirror that he had in his room. He ran a hand through his hair, opened his mouth, checked his teeth - nothing suspicious to see. No sharp teeth, no blood residue, clean. Yet there was that familiar iron taste. He just had to ignore it, he supposed.
He kneeled down to one of his prized possessions - his own mini-fridge, that he’d bought with his own well earned money. Unfortunately- at least not unfortunate to Roch, but maybe to some people - most of the things stored in there wasn’t water, but pop instead. Generally, the monster began his day with a nice, cold sugary drink. It also helped for days like these, waking up with the taste of blood. He shut the fridge and opened the small can, sipping it. Finally, Roch emerged from the dark shelter of his room, shutting the door behind him.

@FanfictionFanatic group

Marcus yawned loudly as he watched time dragging on, waiting for the coffee machine to finish brewing. Fortunately, he had bought a small assortment of canned ready-to-drink coffee to help him get through the morning until the good stuff was ready.
He blinked tiredly and looked over and gave his roommate a slow nod, when he realized who it was, before taking a sip of the canned coffee. Marc didn't have any serious complaints against Roch. The guy was a pretty good roommate, though he wished he would help out a little more with some things.
As far as he could tell, Roch was just another clueless normal human. A bit strange but Marc chalked that up to him being… Well, he sort of assumed that Roch wasn't from around here. And the Hungarian accent made understanding him an interesting experience for the first few months. Though there were still moments.

@Mojack group

Roch nodded in return as he strode out into the room, looking out of the window. It was a bit hard to believe that in the night before, he was down there - different form and all, running freely in the streets. Well, mostly freely. There was still that hunter out there.
“Morning,” Roch finally said, not really looking out of the window at this point, but rather his reflection. “Did you sleep well last night?”

As far as roommates went, Marcus was pretty good in that category, didn’t bother Roch much. Although it probably helped that Marcus was also his first and only roommate that he ever had. He also figured Marcus was human, just a regular one. He was glad to have the possibility that he was a hunter ruled out.

@FanfictionFanatic group

“Like a rock. I’m actually still asleep.” Marc answered with a small tired smirk before taking another sip of his coffee. “How about you?” he asked, slowly making his way to the couch.

This was also Marc’s first apartment as well. Before he moved out here, he'd only lived with his folks and his little sister. It was… kinda nice but a little complicated. Marc was used to talking with his dad about last night's hunt, or attempted hunt. Considering how ignorant the rest of the world was, he couldn't really tell anyone else without being called crazy or a fanatic.

@Mojack group

“I slept..” He paused, to think. Normally, he slept perfectly. Often too perfectly - it was a rarity that Roch got up this early, usually sleeping in instead. But last night- it was tough. “..decently,” he finished, although couldn’t help but give a light yawn.
“What’re your plans for today?”

@FanfictionFanatic group

Marc nodded slightly, brushing off the pause as Roch just trying to remember the English word. “I… Uhh, I have to work today otherwise I’d still be in bed.” he chuckled softly. “Did… Did you have something going on today?” he asked, trying to keep himself awake by talking.

@Mojack group

“Same here.” Roch smiled. “I’d rather be in bed right now, but I’ve also got things to do.” Roch didn’t hide the fact that he didn’t actually have an official employment. He got around, and he did jobs - usually describing them as just going around, meeting up with friends and seeing what work they had. It wasn’t that far from the truth.
“So yes, I do have things going on.” He finished.

@FanfictionFanatic group

Marc actually managed to chuckle at that, nodding. “We’re just a couple of night owls, aren't we?” he asked rhetorically. It was kinda funny that neither one of them were morning people. “Maybe I should think about getting a coffee maker with a clock or timer setting.” he muttered briefly before looking back at his roommate. “Still doing odd jobs? Have you looked into temp agencies?” he asked, having suggested that option for him before.

@Mojack group

“It’s crossed my mind a few times,” he admitted. “But I haven’t really looked into it. Keep on getting distracted.” Unfortunately that was the truth, he hadn’t really looked into them in depth, and he did get distracted quite easily. Although there was a second reason as to why Roch hadn’t looked into them - maybe a third, even.

“Yes, I’m still doing them though. At least today I know for sure what I’m going to be doing- Esther has a job today.” Although he hadn’t spoken on Esther in depth for various reasons, he’d mentioned the woman a few times. The way he seemed to talk about her was as one of his friends, but the relationship was a bit more complicated than that. He couldn’t really explain to just anyone, of course. The odd jobs he did - they weren’t really on the good side of the law. Hence why he couldn’t admit anything truthful - that’d basically be saying, ‘Hey, I’m borderline a criminal.’

@FanfictionFanatic group

Marcus gave a small hum as he finished his coffee, crushing the empty can. “Alright. Just a suggestion. Again.” he smiled brighter when he heard the coffee machine beeping that the fresh brew was done. “Oh, finally!”

He nodded as he stood up and poured two hot cups for them. “Seeing your mysterious girlfriend again?” he teased, holding the second cup out to Roch. He really didn't mean anything by the off-handed comment. Roch had mentioned her before and this wasn't the first time she’d had a job for him. “Well, you take care of yourself when you're with her.” he smiled.
