hi!! hello!! i have an idea for an rp that i'd like to try out, inspired by some analog horror that i've been watching B)

basically, normalized horror! instead of fearing and being hunted by these terrifying entities, humans have learned to live and coexist with most of the strange and creepy things of this world. the morbid and macabre are just a part life, and people go about their days all the same. if you've listened to the podcast welcome to night vale, the vibes are similar.

people going missing in some woods behind the church? they'll all be back tomorrow if you send a goat and a get well soon card. uncanny creatures stalking in the shadows of your house? they're actually there to protect you from a threat much more dangerous, as long as you leave out your dinner leftovers for them. some people have even found out that the giant void centipede lets you use it for public transportation, and it's become a very popular mode of travel these days.

in terms of plot, i feel like there's a lot that could happen. i think slice of life, mystery, romance, or adventure could all work, but i'm also open to ideas! if you have something you'd want to try, i'm all for it.

rules on characters are lax. your character can be human, nonhuman, or something in between, as long as it fits in with a casual horror vibe.

note that as this rp contains horror elements, there will likely be gore/violence!

rules for the rp itself are —

• swearing is a-ok, just no slurs!
• if this becomes a romance, i'm open to any pairing, regardless of gender. only thing i ask is that we omit the nsfw stuff!
• gonna be real, i am not a fast roleplayer. you'll probably get 2-3 responses from me per week, so if you're someone who likes a few responses each day, i'm probably not the ideal partner lol. that being said, i'm not picky at all about response times; you go at your pace and reply to this when you want to!
• i'd prefer nuanced rp, a paragraph at the least, that gives me something to build off of with my replies. i'll do my best to do the same!
• if you have any triggers, please let me know! communication is important. if something in general is making you uncomfortable and/or you want to change the direction of the rp, let me know and i'd be happy to! i'll do the same.

Personality: Aphaeleon is a bit aloof and distant, having only recently severed ties with the heavens to live on Earth, and is still adjusting to their new life. They are friendly and attentive to all forms of life, as is their celestial nature, but they are also someone to avoid conflict and have trouble speaking up for themselves, given they're still learning to be independent. Though most experiences on Earth are new to them, they are a curious and determined individual, willing to overcome any challenge their new life presents.
Occupation: Owner and manager of Vice & Virtue, a popular local business in Mawgate City that serves as a café by day and a bar by night.
Trivia: Reverts back to their true form when startled or threatened. Can speak most languages, but is unfamiliar with the concept of slang and only understands formal speak.

It was a warm summer evening in Mawgate City. One by one, the streetlights began to flicker on, and the city began its slow but routine shift into the night.

Nighttime in Mawgate was what some would call a second day, given how balanced the population was between nocturnal and diurnal inhabitants. Nothing changed much, except some businesses were open now and some weren't anymore. Everything else stayed the same, and it was at this time that some of the more sinister cityfolk rose to go about their night.

Sinister only in appearance, Aphaeleon had come to find, and they knew better than to judge a book by its cover.

They moved to flip the sign on their store from "café open" to "bar open", then left the door just a smidge cracked to keep the air flowing before they returned to behind the counter.

Almost instantly, a few new faces showed themselves in Aphaeleon's shop, seating themselves at the stools near the bar. A fellow with three tooth-filled heads waved Aphaeleon over, and he flashed them a horrible yet friendly smile.

"Nice to see you still run this place at night," he croaked.

"I don't need sleep, even in this form," they replied easily as they handed the man a menu. "So I keep shop open. I like the company, anyways."

"Good to hear, good to hear. Hit me with a Black Russian, would'ya?"

Aphaeleon nodded and set down a glass cup before preparing the drink itself. They slid it over to the man when they were done, and he nodded his gratitude, dumping it in a chest cavity.

They busied themselves tending to the rest of the patrons as they came in, focused entirely on their work.
