Year 2007 would be one of the most eventful years of mankind. When the world came to knows that we were not alone in this world, but the last thing we expected was for this new life to come crawling out of the earth we had lived on for the past thousands of years. The beings - the things, don’t have an official name. Their titles have been known as The Devils from Under Earth, from Below, but such a thing would be hard to casually say in conversation. So, we just call them Devils. Some people have their own terms, but Devil is the most widely used one.

It started with one Devil, who had been defeated after a week long battle. There were a few more weeks of silence, trying to figure out where the Devil came from. Then came another, and another, and another. If we were to survive, we needed bigger weaponry. Better weapons.
Although the Devils initially overpowered us, they had to come from somewhere. And they came from just there. A hole in the world - it could be called Hell, if you wanted to stick with the themes, but most people call it Under Earth. The Underworld.

For such vicious creatures, the Devils came from a world of beauty and greenery, or perhaps that’s just what we thought due to the poor state of our own world. The world of the Devils was beautiful, but deadly, and initial expeditions did not prove successful at first.
With the entrance into their world, and the combined research put into downed Devils, we had come up with a new form of weaponry, Anti-Devil Weaponry. ADW. Fight fire with fire, is that what they say? Reinforced structures with Devil bones and hide. Dissecting them, finding out what makes them tick, what weakens a Devil. And that wasn’t the only thing that came with it. Anything that came out of a Devil, that could be used had some market value. So you had people - often illegally, going to search fallen Devils, to grab their organs, their blood, all sorts of stuff before anyone else.

For a while, we had the upper hand.

Until we didn’t.

Devils started getting bigger. Sure, attacks became less frequent, but they were costly, and soon came the Overlord of all Devils - King Devil. It’s got no official name, but like usual - The Overlord is the most used term, widely accepted, even by news sources. The Overlord never came out to the human world, though. He stayed down in the Underworld, far deeper than any human expedition could ever reach. We only knew he existed because of a drone, but even that didn’t last long down there. It confirmed the ‘signal’ theory though, which had been rumoured as far back as when the Devils began to attack.
The signal theory, something that had only been confirmed within the past decade. That the Devils weren’t attacking out of their own will, that something was sending a signal - controlling them, it was bending them to its will. The Overlord is the biggest (literally) proof of that, firing out signals hundreds of miles deep in the Earth’s centre. For whatever reason, it’s attacking our world, and we don’t have any means of getting that answer.

As time went on, research into Devil technology became more conflicted. Pro-Devils became a thing, thinking we should submit to our otherworldly invaders. Most of the world disagrees, but most of the world is also in deep conflict with each other. Some take a dark approach to it, that this is a losing fight and we’ll be replaced eventually. Others remain optimistic, that we’ll win.
But soon, a massive (again, literally) breakthrough occurred. We were about to fight fire with fire, again. Except our fire would be much bigger this time, at a more equal scale to the Devils. I introduce you: Shifting Technology. Only invented in 2028, and a lot of controversy surrounds it, mainly due to the riskiness of it.

When you Shift, you’re not Shifting your body, you’re Shifting your mind into another body. That body being an artificially created Devil. Pure Devils that had been taken down were tested at first, but one of two things happened. Ninety percent of the time, the body was too damaged to even gain a holding.
The other percent of the time, the Devil’s mind overloaded the human one, and often resulted in death.
So from Devil DNA and cells, we made artificial Devils, that would only function with a human partner. Artificials could only function with one specific human. If you hooked up to the wrong Devil, the chance of death was high. That’s why there’s so much testing in the process of creating a Devil - you’re there, in the whole process. In a way, your Artificial Devil is you.
The Shifting program was a success, despite the conflict around it. Devils continue to attack, but we’ve held them off for now. Until we find a more permanent solution - which would be to take out the signal producer - The Overlord, once and for all. If only we could reach him.

The year is 2037, 30 years after the initial Devil attack. In the present world, things are peaceful - until satellites detect a Devil heading right for a populated city. It’s the usual for you, hook up to your Artificial, move to the Devil, and take it out.
Something is off about this Devil, though.

Inspiration came from a few of my favourite franchises, don’t ask which ones. but if you know my interests you could probably have a small hunch on at least one of them. Also partially based off of my own webcomic I’ve yet to start which is based on one specific franchise.

I want a RP with a fair amount of action, so here it is. RP in which our characters live in a world ravaged by creatures known as Devils. Shady organizations galore. Are we sure The Overlord is the only threat to focus on?

Here are the clarifications/lore bits.

  • Devils are generally scaly, but some have fur, leathery skin, feathers, a mixture, etc.
  • Devils can look like pretty much anything, but generally, aren’t cute (to the general public at least). So you could see a bird like Devil, a spider one, or something that doesn’t even look like an Earth animal.
  • Most of them appear in dark colours, but during night, they have markings (previously unseen in the light) that glow. Colours are usually warm colours. Markings may not be the only things to glow; horns, spikes/dorsal fins, wings (if they have any), gills (same as before), the throat, eyes, etc may also glow.
  • Devils in 2007 up until 2019 were usually only 15-60 metres in height. Past 2019, in less frequent attacks, they’ve been much bigger, with some being 120 metres in height.
  • Most Devils relied on their physical prowess, but within the past 5 years, more Devils have gotten ‘special’ abilities, such as EMPs, ‘fire’ breath, limb regeneration, etc. Devils already have advanced healing, but usually need to be out of a fight in order for it to be extremely fast.
  • Artificial Devils are differentiated from Pure Devils with a key element seen at night - the glowing markings. Which, instead of warm colours, are cool colours. They also don’t attack humans, so..that’s another difference.
  • One more difference is their skin colour, which instead of being the charcoal colours that most Devils are, is usually a pale grey, white, etc. Lighter colours basically.
  • Only a few Devils had been observed to have extreme intelligence. The most intelligent Devils will go out of their way to seek out humans to hunt them down. Majority of Devils, however, only know ‘destroy city’, ‘feed’, and ‘defend myself.’
  • Devil food sources are a variety of things, with some Pseudo-Devils observed feeding on Devil Carcasses. Bigger Devils, however, feed on things not even seen as edible. Some Devils feed off of energy, usually electricity, but can also be solar energy. Others may feed on radiation, some on large Earth creatures, some on rocks and metals, etc.
  • Pseudo-Devils are much smaller Devils, still larger than humans, but smaller than 15metres. They’re observed to live on Devils, hitching rides, but wrecking havoc once dismounted. Though easier to take down, they should never be underestimated.
  • Devil organs are valuable, with the brain being the most valued. Blood is valued as well, but should only be harvested several hours after the kill, since Devil blood is extremely hot. It is also bright red. Devil DNA is the most valuable part of the Devil. Illegally harvesting a Devil is a punishable offence (which is why blood is hard to come across, because it takes so long to harvest, it’s risky business of being caught.)
  • When you hook up to an Artificial, you get into a special suit (somewhat like a wetsuit) and sink into cold water, which is connected to the Artificial Devil. When your mind is relaxed, you connect, and it’s been worded to be like closing your eyes as a human, but waking up as a giant.
  • The process can be disorienting the first few times. Training in this stage is taken seriously.
  • If the Artificial becomes too damaged (destroyed brain(s) for example) you will be forced out of the Shift. This has rarely happened, but it can be a harsh, even traumatizing process. Those who are forced out of the Shift don’t return to the work. The few that have spoken about it have said they’ve seen The Overlord itself, and the end of times. Only 4 have been forced from the Shift.
  • Devils are incapable of communicating verbally to humans, but it is said they all have a telepathic link to one another to communicate. Artificials are unable to intercept this link, but can ‘hear’ it, often a faint buzzing noise, that gets louder the more Devils are around, and the closer they are.
  • This Link has been utilized with Artificials, creating their own Artificial Link. Hooking it up to technology, the Artificial can communicate with the human HQ if needed.
  • Ecto: one of the many shady organizations, but also one of the more well known (which says something considering no one knows much about them). Ecto hasn’t done much these past five years..but things could change, soon.

@Mojack group

Name: Subject does not have a given name, but should be known by Vsevolod ‘Vova’ Vasin.
Age: 20
Gender/pronouns: Nonbinary, primarily using he/him pronouns, though in the end, doesn’t really care what you call him by.
Orientation: pansexual panromantic.
Appearance: Contrasting to his Devil, Vova is lankier in terms of build. Tall and fair skinned, he has pale blue eyes, and dark brown (nearly black) hair kept neat that goes down to mid-ears, but is longer near the back. Despite his height of around 6’3”, he rarely stands up straight, opting to lean over slightly, even while sitting.
His cheekbones are well defined, but also happen to sport two diagonal faint scars on them. He has several scars on his back, and a few on his front and sides.
Clothing: Casual clothing? What’s that?

Vova wears his Ecto uniform nearly all of the time he’s not running around as a Devil, sometimes with his own personal touch. High collared, dark green duster jacket, with small black letters spelling out Ecto on the upper left chest. He’ll rarely be caught without his cap. When the weather is cold enough, he brings out a pale yellow scarf. He usually wears boots. Wears black sunglasses almost all of the time.

Background: Vova is a living experiment. A Devil in the form of a human. Quite literally, as well.
His origins stem from the cells of a Devil (exact specimen unknown, presumably a more powerful Devil) that were used to engineer something more. Something that went under the radar of the world governments, and instead followed its own agenda.
Vova is, by all means, an Artificial. He wasn’t born in the Underworld, he was created, with no real parents whatsoever. He wasn’t the only one of his kind created, although by far, Vova was the most successful. He never had much of a childhood, and it’s a miracle on how expressive he can be at times. He grew up in one of many facilities operated by a shady organization known as Ecto (Ecto itself became only faintly known by the World Governments as an illegal organization with Pro-Devil goals, but their activity had been reduced to a murmur within the past five years. To be fair, illegal doesn’t quite get the message right: Ecto is borderline, if not a terrorist organization). He plays an active role in Ecto, though it’s arguable if he works for or with them.
Despite his human form, Vova was ‘born’ as a Devil. In itself, both of his forms are artificially engineered.
Personality: Vova comes off as reclusive at first. Truth be told, he’s just not good at approaching others (specifically humans). Once you get past that shell, Vova is a highly sarcastic person, but extremely ambitious and persistent. He holds grudges, but has a sense of humour, even while fighting. His active lifestyle and job has had him end up with little to no knowledge on the modern world, and thus, tends not to be good with interacting with others. Any attempts to flirt with him usually gone unnoticed, since he’s never really experienced that before.
Despite his human identity, Vova does have a tendency to show off some of his Devil traits, even while in human form. What that entails is up for discovery.
Devil Opinions: It’s complicated, to say the least. Even then, complicated is underestimating it. Without the Devils, Vova wouldn’t really exist, but is his own existence really a good thing? Could be placed as neutral. He’s willing to communicate with Devils, but he’s also more than willing to kill them. On the other hand, he’s not so fond of humans, either…

Devil Name: Khirshima. Vova named it himself. He’s the only one who calls it that.
Devil Appearance: Unlike typical Artificial Devils (it should be noted all Ecto Devils look pretty much the same as normal Devils, but this information isn’t known since no Ecto Devil has shown up..yet.) his scales are the same colour as your typical Devil. Dark, charcoal grey, with a slightly lighter underbelly. Reptilian in appearance, usually walks on all fours but capable of standing bipedal if needed.
Large and powerful teeth, stick out of bottom jaw slightly. Snout isn’t extremely long, but isn’t flat against the face. General structure is muscular, like most Devils.
When standing straight up, Khirshima has a height of 109 metres, and should be noted to be still growing (another stark difference, as normal Artificial Devils are engineered with a specific height and shouldn’t deviate from that height).
Khirshima has a long, powerful tail, crocodilian in appearance. It has dull small scutes going down its back, which glow red at night. On the back of its head, Khirshima has sixteen bioluminescent tendrils that stick out. As a default, they are a dull red - at night, they become brighter. Compared to other Devils, Khirshima is more heavily armoured, with the heaviest collection of armour being on its fists, chest, and shoulders. Small spikes rise up from its shoulders.
It also has gills on its neck. Eyes are red, markings are also red (during night).

Devil Abilities:
Particle beam: An extremely accurate method of attack, when fully trained (which of course, Vova is not). It’s extremely energy consuming and can be shot for only a few seconds, but the destruction it does is massive, and it can be long distance. An ability not yet recorded by the World Government, although other different ‘beams’ have been used previously by Devils and Artificials alike.

Energy absorption: Conductive scales enable Khirshima to absorb certain types of energy to a limit. This energy can be fired back at the opponent.

Steam generation: Khirshima can generate steam, out of small vents located on certain parts of its body. Notably, traces of Devil blood can be found in this stream.

Swimming: Most Devils can swim, but only some can do it as fluidly as Khirshima, as well as having the means to stay underwater for a long period of time.

Devil communication: Given its origins, Khirshima can communicate with Devils for whatever reason, unlike most Artificials. It can also communicate with Artificial Devils to an extent.

Electronic disruption: Using its own energy (but primarily absorbed energy) it can disrupt electronics miles away from its current location, making communication difficult and tracking operations impossible.

Any extra abilities can be TBD during RP.
Devil Weaknesses:

Relies primarily on physical attacks: With the particle beam being hard to control and energy consuming, Khirshima relies on close quarters, physical combat.

Better fighting in water than land: The water is where Khirshima shines best, as opposed to the land.

Limited amount of steam generation: Can only generate a bit of steam, which it uses primarily as an ambush/getaway tactic. It must retire to the water in order to regenerate, or stay out of the fight.

Limited line of sight: Has blindspots, Khirshima’s best vision is from the front of it. The sides are difficult, and the back is impossible.

Weaker during the day: Although it was a myth that all Devils are weak during the day, this isn’t true. Most Devils are capable fighters all times of the day. This isn’t true for Khirshima, but it should not be underestimated either way. The reason due to this is the light, so it isn’t always weak at daytime, but as it’s generally light during the day, that’s what happens.

Any other weaknesses can be found during RP.

Other: Sports black sunglasses (in human form) to defend against sun rays. Even in the dark, he has a habit of not taking them off.
Vova is the only Ecto Devil to have been deployed (as of when the RP begins). The rest have a while before their proper deployments. The ‘rest’ are also the closest he has to siblings.

This looks interesting, but I’m unclear on what sort of character I’ll be playing. Could you explain, because I’d love to join this!

@Mojack group

You’d be playing a human who received special training to become an Artificial Devil pilot. At the beginning of the RP, you’d be working on the side of humanity (also referred to as The World Governments, who make all the main orders and stuff like that) but you, as your character, get to decide if that’ll remain the same throughout the RP. You’re a member of this ‘Anti-Devil Defense Force’, where you fight primarily against the invading Devils. Of course, being apart of this group doesn’t mean fighting is all there is to it - there’s also public relations, research (which can be divided into Devil Research: meaning you try to figure out where they came from, their weaknesses, etc; Artifcial Research: trying to find new and innovative improvements for Artificial Devils to assist in the fight against Devils; and more; if you want to know more on this topic specifically then ask) demonstrations (originally made to educate the general public, but they’re more known to become shows of ‘wow’) and probably more.

So basically: human who can Shift their mind into the body of an Artificial Devil to fight Devils. Any more questions?
