Appearance

Jack is a tall, handsome man with a stoic and tired appearance; like most of the characters, he has a pale complexion with blood red eyes and dark hair styled in a curtain-like fashion. He wears a fancy black long coat with gold linings on the lapels and at the ends, black gloves and pants, and brown shoes with black toes. A red rose pattern can be seen on the inside of the coat. He wears a simple white shirt over a gray waist coat and a white cravat tie with a ruby brooch pinned to it.

On the top of his head, he wears a top hat that hides part of his face, specifically his eyes, which gives him a mysterious air.

fingerprint Nature
General

Jack is a stoic and antisocial man who always wears an emotionless expression on his face and barely speaks due to his communication disorder. He is rather blunt and generally disinterested in other people, which can lead to him being rude even when he doesn't mean to, as well as avoiding social situations where he might be the center of attention as much as possible. Because of his handsome appearance and mysterious personality, he often receives unwanted advances from women.

He has difficulty in social situations that aren't in his area of knowledge and tends to misunderstand what others are feeling and thinking. As a result, people like Amelia have to be direct and blunt in their wording so he doesn't end up confusing their words. Despite his inability to express emotions as any normal person would, Jack's strongest attributes are characterized by his strong memory, high intelligence, and ability to quickly come up with solutions.

Although Jack can be patient and tolerant with the most foul-mouthed of people, he can be irritated by Lizzie's bratty behavior and children in general. Initially, he wasn't fond of having her in the offices due to her recklessness and even thought of her as a nuisance. Lizzie, in turn, was irritated by his dismissive personality and refused to work with him professionally. Eventually, Jack's negative opinion of her gradually changed to feeling some degree of concern for her as a mentor and even speaking naturally towards her, albeit occasionally. He seems to think of Lizzie as a student, with the motivation of passing on his grandfather's legacy as a killer.

Because of his closed-off demeanor, it's only natural that Jack doesn't share much about his past. As a young child, due to his strange and emotionless behavior, he was treated as an outcast and relentlessly harassed by other kids. Furthermore, he was manipulated by his grandfather into becoming a serial murderer, as the former wanted to make him his successor. Jack didn't embrace his identity as a murderer right away, but he later gradually began to accept who he was and kill without remorse. However, it's clear he struggles with coming to terms with the fact that he was manipulated, and he has very complicated feelings about his grandfather. Although he knows his grandfather successfully managed to transform him from an innocent boy into a heartless killer, Jack doesn't resent him, but he also doesn't forgive him.

Jack is also a borderline nihilist; he puts humans in two categories: those he shouldn't dispose of and those who are disposable. He doesn't seem to care if civilian lives are caught in the crossfire, though he does try to minimize casualties as much as possible. He believes that all life is meaningless and death is equal for everyone. However, this mindset is also the result of his grandfather's manipulation, and he later slowly grows out of it as the story progresses. Although he is still uncaring towards people he doesn't know, this doesn't extend to certain people he has human bonds with, such as Lizzie and Sally, who are the catalyst for him to break out of his grandfather's influence and become fond of her character. He also shows a more protective side to himself and is willing to put his life on the line for them.

Background - What is Jack’s background?

Right from his birth through his childhood, Jack was thought to be eccentric and strange. Though he was born into a wealthy and loving family that raised him with care, he was said to have never smiled and barely spoken, garnering the concern of his parents. In his school years, he was frequently bullied because of his antisocial behavior and strange mannerisms. The harassment only worsened once he was discovered to be performing autopsies on dead animals.

At some point, he was diagnosed with autism when his parents grew concerned for him enough to bring him to a psychologist. It was also during this time that his grandfather took an interest in Jack and his strange dissection talent and willingly spent time with him. Unbeknownst to Jack and his parents, his grandfather was actually the infamous Jack the Ripper, who was also the one to give Jack his name. His grandfather had disappeared for some time after Jack's birth and came back on his 7th birthday. He wanted Jack to be his successor so that he could commit more crimes.

Jack and his grandfather's excursion would consist of capturing small, defenseless animals and ordering Jack to kill them. He was taught about nihilist ideals and was successfully groomed into becoming a killer. When Jack's parents discovered that their son was being brainwashed into becoming a serial killer, they were killed by Jack on his grandfather's orders. He then killed his grandfather by slashing his throat. It is unknown if he killed his grandfather out of his own volition.

Years later, Jack would continue his life as a murderer until he was recruited by the enigmatic Commissioner, who threatened to expose his crimes.
