"I work best with knives like this, just with more of them." Cossett started, tapping the one she had and smiling, "To be more general though, anything I can throw." She wasn't terribly picky on what they gave, just as long as it had some sharp edges and she could do damage.
"Guns please." Felix chimed in, handing his knife over to Coss and leaning against a nearby tree, "Or a bow, both with plenty of arrows or ammo."
Ember gave a small little grin and nodded to Tempest "Temp give the woman some blades. Though you Felix are going for the big things I see." she mused
Both the siblings started to do a motion like they were opening invisible school lockers. They then plunged their hands into an unseen object and their hands vanished. Tempest pulled out a belt of throwing knives and put it down. He went back in and pulled out a greek looking sheathed short sword "Got you a little something extra in case one of those things gets too close. All the blades however were silver for some odd reason. Ember on the other hand pulled out a colt python with a brand new box of ammo. She started to pull out a Brown Bess but chuckled a bit "Oh you don't want that." and instead pulled out a crossbow with a quiver of crossbow bolts. The sibling looked really winded and tired after that display of magic.
Cossett took the weapons with a thankful nod, having no hesitance to strap on the belt and the sword, "Thank you two. I would suggest getting going right away, but first I think you should rest, get some energy back."
Felix's eyes lit up when he saw the weapons for him, almost acting like a child at christmas time when he took the gun and crossbow along with their respective ammo. He grinned and quickly loaded the colt, tucking the extra bullets into the box and slipping it into the sweatshirt pocket. The quiver he quickly slung onto his back and soon he was ready, though nodded in agreement for Cossett's idea, "Thanks you guys, and before we leave you guys need to rest."
"Alright…I trust you guys strangely enough." Tempest said as he sat down slumped against the fallen tree, almost immediately starting to snore. Ember on the other hand gave them a little glance before scrambling up the tree in an almost feline like way before falling asleep in one of the high branches
"I think I finally found someone to match my climbing." Cossett said, watching her scramble into the tree with a smile before leaning against the same tree as Felix. She was still confused as to where they were from, and where all four of them now were.
He laughed lightly and nodded, scanning the surroundings like he had a hundred times before. Felix didn't know how long they needed to rest after the magic they just did, but he was going to make sure nothing happened to them while they were asleep.
Back at the home of the young man…he came home and was quite distressed "What the hell!? My house!" he rushed up through his from door and started to check to see if anything was stolen, keeping his dog close.
Cossett and Felix eventually settled into a small silence, exchanging talk but staying quiet and spending more of their times just watching for anyone. This world was one place they weren't used to, even though it was close to their own world and so their senses were on high for anything out of the ordinary.
Soon enough police sirens were heard close by as the young man had called the police…as any sane person would have in his shoes. The Officers asked for his name which he gave "Joshua Sutton." Though both Joshua nor the officers could explain the large amount of black substance on the floors. The officers took a bit of the blood on the wall from Felix's hand print.
"Should we wake them up soon?" Felix asked, clearly getting impatient as he started to try to weave pine needles together. His gun was laid by his side, and his crossbow and quiver of arrows were hanging on a low branch on a tree across from him.
Cossett shook her head, dutifully keeping watch with her hand on her knives just in case. "Let them sleep, if they sleep for much longer though maybe we could try to hunt something to eat. I'm starving, last meal I had was yesterday morning, the blackberries we found."
Tempest soon jerked awake with a little gasp "Goddammit, stupid nightmares" he muttered he looked over to the competitor pair and said to them "You guys don't have any cash do you?" he asked as his stomach rumbled just a bit
Felix shook his head, though he seemed happy that one of them was awake now, "Nope, haven't carried money for probably a few months now, I can hunt though if you're hungry too." He heard his own stomach growl and he looked at Cossett, "Do you have any money?" She responded with a shake of her own head, messing with her knives.
"Alright I can take out some…oh wait you have my hoodie on. Think of American currency and reach into the hoodie pocket." Tempest instructed "I sadly did not put the same enchantment on my jeans." he told them as he patted his empty pockets.
"Uh…" He looked slightly confused and instead stood up and pulled the hoodie off, handing back over with, "Maybe you should, I have no clue what their currency looks like." Cossett rolled her eyes and laughed, muttering something under her breath and earning a glare from Felix, which just made her laugh again.
He reached into the hoodie pocket and pulled out a couple of tens, then handed the hoodie back. "We should be good now." He tried to climb the tree Ember was sleeping in "Wakey wakey!" there was a loud slap noise and Tempest feel flat on his back out of the tree. He let out a laugh "She's awake"
Felix slipped the hoodie back on, scooping up his weapons and slinging them back over his shoulder. He couldn't help but laugh at Tempest falling out of the tree, though he did walk over and offer a hand out to help him up. "Can we get something to eat before we go back to that house?" He asked, looking around at the other two and them up into the tree for Ember's input, "I think we all could use the food."
Ember dropped down from the tree, landing on her feet "Yes that's a good idea. Let's see what's around here." Ember said as she dusted her tank top off. Tempest took Felix's hand and was helped back up. "I'm gonna assume that this universe has regular restaurants. What do you guys say? Burgers?"
Cossett and Felix looked between each other and nodded. "Burgers sound good, will they let us bring our weapons into the restaurant?" Felix asked, holding on to his gun tighter as his stomach growled. If not, then they were going to be very vulnerable, and he hoped that wasn't the case.
"We can store the larger things again but keep out the small things we have. Ember and I enchanted our main weapons to look like necklaces but we can just hide the smaller things. Keep them in the hoodie pockets and they'll come back out only when you guys need them." Tempest explained as he plucked the larger weapons away and stuffed them back in the 'invisible locker' of his.
(I'm so sorry it's taking me so long to respond, life has gotten crazy lately, with track and finals, I promise I'll try to be more consistent after friday (That's when finals are))
"Do we just 'wish' them back? Like you did with the money?" Felix asked, reluctantly handing over his larger weapons after stuffing away his gun in the hoodie. Cossett didn't bother handing over anything besides her large blade, figuring all of the other knives would easily hide away in her own hoodie.
(it's alright I know life is busy. Don't worry about my friend)
"Exactly. See? You're getting into the magic mindset now." Tempest chuckled a bit while Ember rolled her eyes "Let's just eat, I'm getting a little hangry."
So Tempest led the little group out of the woods and down the side walk out of the neighborhood. "There seems to be a Wendy's not far ahead."
What maybe noticed by this point is that The kind of book Tempest and Ember come from is a looser more laid back story. Yes it had a civil rights message within the book but it fell into a modern fantasy type. Joshua, the young man know wrote the two two in progress books would write this when he was in a relaxed laid back mood. There was a clear antagonist that was a little cliche: a lord of shadows. But no one knows what's gonna happen when they realize that they are nothing more than book characters.
After they walked through the doors of the restaurant Tempest gave them all ten bucks each. "Alright guys here's the budget."
Where as Tempest and Ember may have been used to things like the Wendy's, this was new territory for Cossett and Felix. They tried to hide their confusion and curiosity though as they walked in, eyes scanning everything in a reflex move before they even let themselves relax their guard slightly. "What kind of food do they have here?" Felix asked, the question directed at both of them and not just one person in particular.
"Burgers, fries, soft serve ice cream…stuff like that." Tempest told the two of them as they walked in
"Eating this stuff all the time isn't good for you but every now and then isn't too bad." Ember added as they waited in line to order
"I have been craving root beer, so I hope this location has some."
Cossett nodded, whereas Felix wore a confused look as he looked up at the menu and tried to read everything they served. They both looked slightly curious though, following the others lead and getting into line to order. "What are you getting?" She asked.
Felix shrugged, messing with the money in his hand and listing off what he wanted to get, "I want to try the fries, and one of the burgers."
"What are they new to the country or somethin'?" an older man said in front of them
"Distant friends. They were our pen pals that we invited to the country after my brother and I saved enough money." Ember said, the lie smoothly rolling off her tongue as they neared the front of the line. "Right Temp."
"Frosty frosty fr-eh oh…yeah she's right."
The two of them nodded, immediately playing the part and going with the lie. Felix fiddled with the money some more and shuffled forward in line as people ordered. "This place is very exciting." Cossett said, going with the act and nodding again while adding a very light almost Irish accent, "So many different choices..how do you choose?"
(sorry this didn't show in my feed!!)
Tempest smiled warmly and Ember's smile was a crooked smirk as they neared the front "Hello welcome to Wendy's what can I get you today?" the man taking their order asked. Tempest and Ember ordered their food and stood to the side to let the other two order
(That's ok!)
Cossett and Felix paid close attention to how the other two ordered, before copying what they did but with their own choices. Both seemed quite proud when they joined them by the side, even with messing up slightly on the names and trying to act like they fit in. "Now we wait for the food to be ready, right?" Felix asked, messing with his receipt and rocking back on his heels.
"yep! You guys can wait at an open table and we'll bring over the food." Tempest offered with a smile as they went over to the fountain drink dispenser to fill up their drink orders
They nodded, first following them and filling up their own cups with the new choices of drink before searching for a table big enough to seat all of them. Felix spotted one in the back and they slipped onto two of the seats, starting to talk quietly to each other as they waited for their food.
