Beatrice frowned at him.
"Teagan, take this medicine," she told him, taking some DayQuil from the bedside table and measuring out the proper amount, holding it up to his lips.
She then make sure the glass of water on the bedside table was full, as he would most likely want a drink of it after the medicine.
"Noooo…" Teagan pulled his head away from the medicine, shuddering at the smell of it. "What do I need DayQuil for…? M'not sick…" He mumbled weakly. "Just got an infection or somethin'… does it make the fever go away?" He whined.
Beatrice pulled back to the bottle and stared at it, confused.
"Hold on," she told him "I'll get Finn." She rushed out of the room, quickly going down the stairs and turning the corner.
"Just kidding, you have to get Teagan because I almost gave him the DayQuil that sits on my dresser at all times." She told Finn and went back to the couch and sat down.
Finn looked up when Beatrice returned and got to his feet, yawning and stretching. "Right. I'll get him some Ibuprofen and hopefully he'll stop whining." He headed over to the cabinet to find the pills and then went upstairs, two stairs at a time, to Beatrice's room. He ushered Teagan to take the pills, got him settled again, and then came back downstairs.
Beatrice smiled at him as he came down again.
"Having a fun time?" She asked sarcastically, but teasingly "I think I might be a hospice nurse for a living, strictly because of this life experience."
"Oh, yeah. Definitely." Finn flopped down on the couch and sighed. "He always acts so tough, but all bets are off as soon as he has a little fever. He's so dramatic."
Beatrice nodded.
"With Irena it's kind of the opposite," she told Finn. "She's generally a loud and obnoxious person, but when she's sick she's really quiet and reserved. It's weird."
"Yeah. Apparently I'm… stubborn." Finn laughed sheepishly. "I don't like being sick, so I kinda just pretend I'm not and go about life as usual until I physically can't anymore."
"Irena knows she's sick, she just doesn't like people fussing over her." She told him, playing the movie. "She said it makes her feel bratty or something."
"Mm…" Finn yawned a bit and settled in on the couch. "Teagan gets pretty clingy. That's part of why I always get sick when he does. I also like to say it's just one of those twin things."
Beatrice nodded, trying to show she understood, or she did on a level.
"Yeah," she said "it must be nice having a twin."
Finn shrugged. "It has its ups and downs. I wouldn't say it's a whole lot different than any other siblings. We're the same age, so we tend to be more interested in the same things, I guess. We can't switch places or anything. Sure, we're identical, but we're distinguishable from each other because we have different scars." He pointed to the big scar on his face that Teagan didn't have.
"Yeah, I guess you're right." Beatrice said and then looked at him closely. "But honestly, being Irenas younger sister really sucks ass sometimes, if I'm being honest. I'm not trying to say my life is tragic and one big sad story but being her sister does suck sometimes, for many different reasons."
"How so?" Finn asked, looking over at Beatrice curiously. "I mean, Teagan's an ass sometimes, but I do like having a brother. Especially since our parents are so… the way they are. It's nice to have somebody who won't leave me." He shrugged.
Beatrice smiled softly and nodded.
"Being Irena's sister means I'm automatically second best in a lot of ways. I know it sounds like i'm complaining, but i'm just telling you the facts."
She paused and inhaled shakily, before letting her breath out in a sigh.
"Irena's, y'know, pretty and very correctly curved. Me, i'm just sharp angles and awkward looking. She's smart, im mediocre. There's a lot of different ways that she's just better than me."
Finn frowned a bit at Beatrice's explanation. "You're pretty too, Beatrice. Not everyone is pretty in the same exact way." He replied without thinking, flushing when he realized what he'd said. "I-I just mean, uh… nevermind. You're selling yourself short. You're really smart, and you're good at plenty of things. She's not better, you two are just different. It's something I've been trying to get myself to believe too, so I know it's hard." He laughed weakly. "It's hard not to think that Teagan's the better twin, but… I'm good at things too, I think. I dunno."
Beatrice whacked him gently in the bicep.
"Of course you're good at things too," she told him "I know i'm good at some things but in a way it feels like Irena's better than me in all the important ways."
"Well, I feel the same way about Teagan, but you still like me right?" Finn smiled softly. "You'll find your niche. You're just as important as Irena."
Beatrice flushed lightly at the first part of Finn's sentence and she wondered if he knew about… well, the whole love thing.
"thanks," she muttered weakly and turned away to hide her blush.
"Yeah… of course." Finn looked away as well, clearing his throat awkwardly. "But anyway, I think you should focus on just being you. Don't worry about whatever Irena is doing. I mean, right now she's busy being sick with god knows what."
Beatrice nodded.
"yeah, thanks." She said and continued watching the movie.
"Mhmm…" Finn fidgeted with his hands, paying less attention to the movie now, but still trying to follow what was happening. After the movie ended, he looked over his shoulder at the clock to see what time it is. "Are you hungry?" He asked.
Beatrice shrugged and smiled.
"I could eat." She said nonchalantly "what about you?"
"Yeah, same. It's about lunchtime, so we can eat something and get something for Irena and Teagan too." Finn sat upright and stretched, yawning.
Beatrice heaved herself up and made her way into the kitchen.
"What do you want?" She called to Finn. "Anything specific?"
Finn shrugged as he followed. "Not really. I'm not picky. You?" He asked. He looked over at the stairs as though he expected Teagan or Irena to have ventured out of their rooms.
Beatrice smiled at him.
"We could make junk food or an actual meal, take your pick." She told him "I kind of want to cook a whole meal."
"Well, let's cook a whole meal then." Finn returned the smile and stuck his hands in his pockets. "What do you know how to make?"
Beatrice smiled and began checking off a list on her fingers.
"uhm Spaghetti, burgers, steak fajitas and some other stuff." She said playfully.
Finn nodded a bit, humming thoughtfully. "How do you feel about chicken fried rice? It's pretty good and should be light enough for Irena and Teagan to eat."
