Swanpaw quickly stepped out and wrapped her tail around the kit's body. "What do you think you're doing? You need to stay inside until Whitestreak says you can leave. You want to get better right?" She gently guided Ashkit back into the medicine den. "Stay in this nest, okay?" The apprentice crouched down in front of him, her nose a whisker length from his.

His small body shakes as his nose twitches trying to scent who was talking to him "o-ok…"

"Do you think you'd be ready to fight me?" Swiftstar asked Dewpaw. "I've already fought Crystalpaw a few times and she's proved herself able to evade me."

Dewpaw hesitated, then remembered the playful rivalry she had started with her fellow apprentice. "Alright. I'll do it."

Swiftstar's whiskers twitched in amusement. "Do you want to attack first or should I?" She mewed

"I'll start." She replied, preparing to spring.

"Will you?" Swiftstar said, darting forward. She swept past Dewpaw, hitting her paws out from underneath her. Then she sat neatly on the other side of the hollow, licking a forepaw.

The apprentice let out a surprised squeak as she fell. She quickly got to her paws and darted at Swiftstar, knocking her to the ground and batting at her ears. Silverpaw watched closely as Dewpaw jumped backward after raking her paws down Swiftstar's side.

"Good, but I let you that time." Swiftstar mewed playfully. She leaped at her, easily knocking her onto his back. She kicked down with her hindlegs onto Dewpaw's underbelly before bouncing away.

"Ashkit, hey Ashkit!" A voice hissed from the back of the den, behind him. It was Vixenkit, one of the youngest nursery kits who acted like the oldest, and the other kits let her, she was scary. Crouched nervously behind her was Dawnkit, her brother.

ashkits ears swerve around, he whispers"vixenkit?where are you"

Vixenkit padded up to him and gently touched his flank. "We aren't supposed to be here," She hissed, "But if I'm going to be a medicine cat one day, I'm going to have to learn early." Some of the other kits still laughed when they heard that Vixenkit wanted to be a medicine cat.

Swanpaw looked up as Vixenkit started whispering. "Hey you." She meowed. "You know what'll happen if Whitestreak finds you in here. You'll be in for another scolding."

Dewpaw got to her paws and faced Swiftstar, her flanks heaving with every breath. She crouched close to the ground and acted like she was going to jump, but then darted forward underneath her leader, knocking her off her paws.

Vixen frowned and drooped her ears, looking sad. "But Swanpaw… I want to learn about herbs, like you do." She whined.

Swiftstar landed on her side then rolled to stand again. She hissed and bared her teeth, coaxing Dewpaw to attack again.

Swanpaw smiled. "Well…Whitestreak isn't here…right?" She asked, a playful note in her voice.

Dewpaw leaped at Swiftstar, but her paws hit bare ground. She turned around, and got a face full of fur as she was pinned to the ground.

"Yes! Thank you Swanpaw!" Excitement gleamed in Vixenpaw's eyes.

"Your first attack was good but you let your guard down at the easy win." Swiftstar hopped off Dewpaw and padded in a circle before sitting down.

"How about you help me take care of Ashkit?" Swanpaw suggested. "He's going to need lots of care to get better."

Dewpaw stood dipped her head. "I understand." She meowed. "I'll try to do better."

Vixenkit grinned. "Yes of course!" She bounded over to Swanpaw. "So, what have you given him already?"

Swiftstar touched Dewpaw's shoulder with her tail. "Do you want to keep going?"

ashkit sighs covering his head with his paws

Dewpaw didn't hesitate. "Of course!" She grinned. "I'll work until my paws drop off if I have to."

Swanpaw gestured to Ashkit. "I've given him a poultice of marigold and horsetail." She said to Vixenkit. "Do you think you can tell me what they're used for?"

"Of course." Swiftstar smiled. "I'll hold you to that." She padded to the far edge before leaping at Dewpaw again.

"Stopping infections and bleeding." Vixenkit said quickly.
