Asa sniffed Ashera's hand, letting out a toon; she found that people usually thought it was a sign of happiness, so she had taken up the habit of humming it whenever she was happy. Asa butted her head against Ashera's hand, putting on her best "Adopt me!" face. She didn't really not like being here, but she wanted to actually have a home.
Ashera smiled at the sound, ”Who knew Dragons could use puppy dog eyes so convincingly?” She stood up and walked over to the front desk. Honestly, she had been debating on whether or not to finally get a companion for a while. Finally seeing the clerk, she asked sweetly, ”Excuse me, how much is it to purchase the green Dragon?”
The clerk looked up from what they were doing and smiled.
"Five hundred dollars," they said. It was relatively inexpensive, for a dragon. Asa, when she heard the woman discussing how much Asa cost, she twirled in a little circle, letting out another puff of smoke.
Ashera was a bit surprised at the number. It was a very good price for a Dragon, but honestly still expensive. She looked back at the new pet. ”I’ll take it.” she smiled. ”Do you know what the gender or if it responds to a name already?”
She really didn't like referring to the dragon as ”it”.
"This dragon is…" The clerk checked a Ipad on the desk, looking for Asa's information.
"Female. Says she responds to Asa." Asa chirped at her name, putting her front paws up on the cage. Yes, that was her name, now could you please let me out?
”Asa. That's a nice name.” Ashera commented as she finished the transaction. ”Well, Asa, I hope you’ll be happy living with me.” she smiled walking back to her cage. ”Do you have the key?”
The clerk stepped out from their desk, pulling a key out and unlocking Asa's cage. Asa bounded out, circling Ashera and humming again. She sniffed at Ashera's feet, memorizing her sent so Asa could find her if they became separated.
Ashera laughed a little as Asa circled her, running her hand down her back. ”I bet it's been a long time since you’ve flown, huh girl. Well, if you wait until we get home you can fly around all you want.”
Asa gave an excited chirp, pushing against Ashera's hand. It would be nice to fly again. Asa bounded towards the door, then back to Ashera, trying to get Ashera to take Asa home already.
”Alright, girl. I'm coming.” Ashera smiled, waving farewell to the cashier as she caught up with Asa. ”Now, don't run off on me.” she half teased, opening the door.
Asa stepped outside, basking in the sunlight. Her scales shimmered gold slightly, and she spun in a circle, showing off to her new owner.
Ashera was awestruck by Asa’s scales. She hadn't seen anything like that outside of a prism or other precious gems. ”You really are beautiful.” she almost whispered. There wasn't a car waiting for them, as Ashera preferred walking when she could. ”Home’s this way, Asa. It's not very far.”
Asa, on the walk to her new home, would dart forward a few feet, then turn back and wait for Ashera with a happy demeanor. She would flap her wings every so often, enjoying the feeling of the sun on them.
Ashera hadn't really stopped smiling since they left the pet shop. ”You’re really a green puppy with wings, aren't you?” she joked, referring to Asa’s energetic personality.
Asa, in reply, let out a puff of smoke and hummed loudly. She circled around Ashera's legs once before continuing her routine. Now, though, she would fly back to Ashera, butting her head against Ashera's hand.
Ashera laughed, racing to keep up when Asa dashed ahead. ”Ok, you're a much better listener than a puppy.”
The house was finally coming into view. It appeared to be a simple two-story cottage with a small front porch and a very well-maintained garden as she grew a lot of her own ingredients for work.
Asa, happy with the praise, tooted once as she flew around Ashera's head. She knew she would enjoy her time with this woman.
Ashera ducked her head playfully as they reach the door. ”Fair warning, Asa, I almost always have some kind of music playing. I really only turn it off if I'm going to sleep or if I have to leave for a few days.”
Asa fluttered her wings as she landed, spinning in another happy little circle. Asa had grown up deep in the forest, and it was still hard for her to be alone without some kind of sounds to keep her company.
Ashera opened the door at Asa’s cute antics.
The inside of the house had a cozy feel to it. The living room was very neat and normal looking, decorated with natural colors and had a few ”showing-off” plants with two additional bookshelves near the fireplace.
”Welcome to your new home, Asa. I'll be right back.”
Asa bounded in, exploring her new home. She sniffed everything, rubbing against the furniture and rolling on the ground. Occasionally, she would fly up tojust belowthe ceiling, tooting.
Ashera had headed to a small office room that doubled as a storage area. It was fairly organized but not completely if she was honest. It took her a moment to find the right items. She had been considering adopting a pet for a while so when she wasn't too busy with work she had spent some time carving a couple of runes into a jet black stone tied to a leather cord.
”Asa! Come here, girl. I got something for you.”
Asa came bounding in when Ashera called her. What could this woman be giving her? A toy? A treat? When she saw the stone, she thumped her tail against the ground. Of course, it was a collar. She had worn some before, and she thought she would look magnificent in this one.
Ashera smiled as she slid the amulet around Asa’s neck. ”I know it looks more like a necklace but I don't work with human metals. At least it should keep others from thinking that you don't have a home.” her smile dropped a little before she wrapped her arms around Asa in a hug.
Asa was startled for a moment, but she quickly got used to it and put her head on Ashera's shoulder, snuggling against her neck. She knew that people needed hugs sometimes, and sometimes she was the only one around to hug.
Ashera giggled lightly, ”Sorry, Asa. I just realized that in my snap decision to take you home, I forgot to get you a bed and some toys.” She pulled away smiling brightly again. ”I guess you can sleep with me for now, and we can go shopping for you tomorrow.”
Asa waved her tail back and forth, very much an oversized puppy. She wouldn't mind sleeping with her new owner; it would be good bonding time for her. She twirled once, rubbing against Ashera and humming.
Ashera smiled, petting Asa softly. ”In the meantime, I'm going to make something for dinner. Dragons are omnivores, right?” she wondered aloud as she headed to the kitchen.
Ashera's kitchen was one of the most used rooms in the house, partly because of her work, and as such was almost always in a state of organized chaos. With a variety of different herbs hanging from the windows to dry, jars of powdered tree bark and something that looked like a chemistry set.
Asa chirped in agreement. Since she was still considered a child by dragon terms of age, her diet consisted of mostly berries, insects, and small mammals when she had been in the wild. On her human side, though, she was a young adult, and she had a large affinity for steak. She sniffed around the kitchen, sneezing when she thrust her nose is a bundle of herbs.
”At least you didn't set anything on fire.” Ashera laughed at the cute sound, looking for something for the both of them to eat. What do you feed a Dragon? she sighed. I really didn't think this through.
”Ok, I know this isn't usual ”pet” food… But it is your first meal here… I have a leftover vegetarian Lassana or a fire-roasted meatless chili? Or maybe a just a plate of berries and fruit would be better.”
