Well, that’s something she didn’t want to hear. She felt like they were getting somewhere last night; they had found their target and located he was associated with. She’d even found a few items in his apartment that might be considered evidence. This case seemed to be going well, but now that Jakob had gotten away, it seemed that the criminal world was actively trying to avoid them.

“A bust? Well, we haven’t tried hard enough to give up yet.” She ordered a drink before glancing at over him. “Use that charm you used in me. I bet you could get anyone to open up in a drink or two.”

She waited a few moments, listening to the conversations of those around her. Even if this was a busy and Magnus wasn’t as useful here as she’d hoped, at least yesterday gave her something to go off of. She knew Jakob had likely left the area after their encounter, and with some luck, she might be able to search his home to find something. Well, that was if he hadn’t burned everything yet.

“But, you know, if no one here has any sort of information, we could just sit back and enjoy ourselves, partner.” She smiled and winked at him. “You don’t got anything better to do, do you?”

Magnus felt a bit guilty as Mercy's expression fell. She had clearly hoped that they would get somewhere with this place. As much as he didn't want to hang around with people that he may or may not know, he supposed that he might as well give it a try. He ordered a drink as well, one that he used to always get when he had used to come to this bar.

As Mercy continued speaking, he didn't add anything, simply listening to her talk. He could practically see the wheels turning before she spoke again. If this was some sort of tactic to make him want to go talk to other people, it was working. His relationship with Mercy was…complicated, at best. He had been very interested in her before she had revealed that she was a cop trying to get him to work with her on the case. After the blackmail, he had hated her, getting angry at the thought of spending any time with her. Then, after working together and the hospital visit, there was a different sort of tension in their interactions. He hated to admit it, but she was starting to grow on him.

"As amazing as that sounds"–he began, smirking before glancing across the bar at a woman he only sort of recognized–"I think I might be able to try talking to a few people here first. It might not be a total fail. We'll see."

“Now there’s that confidence I love.” She discreetly slipped her hand to his and squeezed it gently. “If you manage to get me some information, maybe I’ll pay for your drink. How about that?”

Magnus’s confidence had always been something that had intrigued her. She was honestly surprised that he didn’t have many friends, but she was sure that was less because of his lack of social skills and more because he didn’t want to get too close to anyone. In fact, it was his charm that made him right for the job; he had been the one to approach her, not the other way around.

She noticed Magnus looking over at the woman on the other side of the bar and smiled. Maybe this night wouldn’t be such a let down after all.

“Do you want me to go over there with you?” She laughed softly and winked at him. “Or would I be too much of a distraction?”
