"It's not kindness so much as selfish motives." Jackie sighs, smiling softly as De'Tearion's other hand wraps around hers.

De’Tearion paused at her words, a resigned sigh escaping him. He should’ve expected it. After all, she had mentioned previously that she wasn’t a kind woman. But, it still stung.

“What motives?”he asked quietly, withdrawing his hands and turning away.

He could likely already guess. So many women had tried to use or manipulate him, and so many people in general had tried to kill him. Rarely was it anything else.

"Simple companionship." Jackie murmurs, huffing.

"You really think I have many other motives? I have no desire for your looks - though you do look beautiful. I have no desire for your titles or wealth."

De’Tearion listened, turning back to stare at her, confusion in his eyes. He then sighed.

“Then, it be selfish not, for a desire for companionship be not a selfish thing. We also desire the same thing,”he mentioned softly.

He snorted,”I have no titles or wealth to give, even if you did wish for them. All of that be in the past. And, my past be why I am, admittedly, paranoid.”

"Mmmm. . . selfishness is a multi-layered beast, a very fine trickster. But that is true." Jackie nods.

"That's part of my point." she chuckles.

She sighs and looks back at the hide and fabric in front of her.

“It can indeed be complicated,”he said.

De’Tearion hummed, then chirped and shrugged.

He watched her for a moment, then gently grabbed her still outstretched hand, cradling it like he had been only minutes ago.

"Indeed." she agrees.

Jackie looks back at him, smiling softly.

"You seem to greatly enjoy simple physical touches. I'll keep that in mind." she notes.

De’Tearion noticed her smile, and he replied with a shy smile of his own.

“I do indeed. ‘Tis comforting, and I have had little comfort in my long life. ‘Tis also why I enjoy holding others, though… I believe being held would serve as better comfort, yet ‘tis been a long time since someone has held me,”he said quietly, gently caressing her hand with his thumb.
