@cami

and how dd you choose that name?

i went traditional and called mine faery because it's the realm where fairies live. i may or may not change it to keep more in line with the celtic mythology.

share yours!

My most recent one is called The Legend of Lestaria. Lestaria took a while to come up with (or, at least, until I found one I was comfortable enough to "lock in"), and is mostly just a combination of liking the 'L' alliteration with legend, while also drawing from sounds I enjoy: "lest", "star", and "ia".

As a bonus, its origin story revolves around two feuding celestial dragons, so the "star" in the middle is a nice head nod towards a larger context. :)

@Cami Faery is nice and simple, I like it. The letter isn't quite celtic, but have you thought about throwing a æ in there? Makes it hard for readers to spell/google I suppose, but might be a fun tool to have in the toolbelt (or maybe for some races or characters in the universe?). Sounds neat though!

I called mine Yonder, just because I felt like it was so far away from everything else.

Is this for the world or the book?
My world is called Erian because I felt like it was something the people of the world would come up with themselves, like the people of our world (yeah I know it's very close to the name Earth, but I feel like it would be).
The book itself is called Human, as the main character is one of the very few human characters in the book. I came up with this idea at three am, so I'd be happy for some critique and suggestions for different names!

A lot of my fantasy worlds take place on Earth and in real life, but with fantasy twists (as in, there being witches or something). Although, these posts have made me want to start thinking about my own actual fantasy world.

Mio

My story takes place mainly on Earth, but there's another world as well. I've called it Lepzan. I think, if you have another world, maybe go by how they talk or the traditional naming patterns. Like, on Lepzan, the creatures names are based around less used letters, like x and z. The names are also a bit darker or shadowy, much like their personalities would be. Gen, Endel, Lex, ect. The names aren't bright and bubbly like, Shurley or Nell. That's just how my brain processes names.

@EternallyEris

In the current story i'm working on the land is called "Aesynara" (Ice-in-are-ah)
Its a play off the word "Aesir" which is what the norse gods are originally called. There are smaller lands/courts within this land but this is the main one.

Pretty much my process is finding a word that I like that sounds "magical" enough or has particular meaning to the story and then switching the letters around so it looks as cool as i want it to sound. Usually i replace "i"s with "y"s and so on…

@joufflucharlie

My story takes place in the world of Cortex, a more shadowy and empty fantasy world. I named it Cortex after the regions of the brain, as Cortex's most prevalent population, Clairvoyants, posses magical abilities controlled through their brain.

@Flint_Aldrich

My issue is that i'm trying to work on a universal scale to recount the stories of planet hoppers. unfortunately coming up with a name for the universe they live in, let alone the story, is really difficult. any ideas or tips to help me out

Mio

@Flint_Aldrich Well, my first thought was some version of utopia, but I doubt your universe is peaceful and perfect. So, maybe try a foreign word for imperfect? It's just a suggestion. It's your story. Good luck writing!

@Tyjo

Sometimes I go on google translate and translate a word that I think fits the story (like; chaos, light, storm etcetera) from English into a random language. I never use the exact translation, but sometimes a really fancy word comes out and I change the letters a bit, remove or add something and tada! A fancy sounding name.

I hope this helped a bit, good luck writing!

@nekh

I have a heck of a lot of worlds, since everything is part of a self-contained multiverse. The multiverse extends from a world called the Creator's Realm, and the universe I'm focusing on is called Telurs (which means dragon in one of the Creator's Realm languages). I have a few other universes named: Regala, so named because one of the anchors of the multiverse is a warrior-queen; Magicka, because that same anchor is a summoner here; Crossroads, because it overlaps with a few other realms so it's like a parallel universe Creator's Realm with elements from other universes.

@QueenElenaGalathynius

Wydelia, it is a place where it always rains, but the rain is also the most magical thing of that universe. It was founded by Emelea and Luz, Emelea created it because she wanted something that people said ruined a day to be beautiful, almost as if the universe was her life story. Luz is a quarter-god (her grandmother was the Goddess of Rain and Mist) and she fell in love with Emelea, then helping her turn Wydelia into a place where anyone who wished to be seen differently could stay.

I've yet to name the actual world but my city is called Elloriand. I've also got the Azheim Moor, Shadilfari Valley and Lake Nerthus (named after both the Germanian goddess and one of the Norse Gods) Most of my names came from mythology, foreign words or name generators with some of the letters changed to suit the feel of the location.

@Blooberry

The Wastes, but it used to be known as Anantìr.
The Wastes now cause it's just a desolate wasteland
Anantìr was an old name used in a world-building workshop camp I went to a when I was younger and I wanted to pay homage to it.

@Your-Humerus

Itoria is my world I use for not only writing books but also for DMing
Itoria because I'm good with fantasy names and it's a world I haven't heard of yet so that's a plus

@RogueGhost

Mine is called Aeon, both because Ive been working on it since I was a child and because the series it belongs to is named Legacy. I like joking that this story is my legacy and I want it to last for eons.
