Hate to break it to ya hun but why in the gosh dang world think that blind people can use Notebook.ai which is a writing app. And to write you need to see and not be blind. Hope this helps! Ta-taa!

@starry

hiya- i could excuse your ignorance, but you're being rude about it.
i'm not blind, but i've been on the internet 10+ years and i can tell you that in fact, many blind people use the internet! i believe many of them use a text-to-speech program. plus, once you've learned to type, you don't need to see to write! it's quite a magical concept. you know what else is a magical concept? learning about people who live differently from you! life with blindness and other conditions is so much easier these days than it would be in another time period, thanks to our wonderful technology.
next time you don't know what you're talking about, do research or better yet- stay quiet.
hope this helps! ta-taa!

Sorry I didn't mean to come off rude. I guess I'm really dumb…

I am surprised that I am not surprised that you didn't realise you were being ableist. Us disabled people have made a lot of adaptations to get around the non accommodating modern world, blind people not being able to read a post isn't going to stop them.

@starry

again, i'm not blind, but i am physically disabled and use a cane occasionally- it's incredible how many people don't even notice their ableism, even when it's clear as day. this type of stuff- i don't hold it against people, but it gets under my skin for a bit.

@Mercury Beta Tester

Yeah, at least @MysticSquijet apologised and realised their mistake. Education is key. There's movements against sexism, racism, homophobia, transphobia etc. but ableism is like one of the last things people won't own up to. I'm not blind myself either, I'm deaf.

I'm glad someone made this thread because I have a character whose vision is (possibly temperarily but maybe permenetly) taken away by the villain and I needed some info!

I do know a blind guy in real life if the story you're writing is realistic fiction, he says that the whole 'if you lose X sense the other senses get stronger' thing isn't true, you just learn to pay attention to your other senses if that makes sense? He also has different tools he uses, like a cane that he can extend the length off, a device that he can use to send out a sound wave (?? it's been awhile since I heard his talk at youth group, I can't remember exactly how it works but I remember what it does) to check if there's something in front of him. He also has a seeing-eye dog.

Actually, I suppose it's kind of weird that I'm revealing this now, but one of my eyes is essentially useless. It's not really much of a hindrance, and honestly no one can tell, but I'll tell you right now that it's not like "seeing black" or "seeing white", I have a concept of sight because I still have one eye, but a blind person would have no concept of what it's like at all. No colors, no shadows, no depth perception or anything, you could try to explain them to them, but it might not help then get a picture of it. There's nothing. It's not like seeing with your eyes closed, because even then you have a perception of light, and darkness. It's simply absent.

That's… actually really freaky to think about.

@Shuri-the-Floof-Doggo

Yeah, a lot of people say that. And yeah Jyn Is Write About It. It's like death, you think you know a death is, but you don't really have a concept of it. Your brain can't conceive the fact that it will cease to exist, it only knows that ceasing to exist as possible, even if it doesn't know how to.

Meanwhile I need to get new glasses because everything in my right eye is super blurry (like I'm sitting down with my computer rn and if I close my left eye and take off my glasses, I can't read the worldbuilding catagories) and my left eye has started to get bad.

@GoodThingGoing group

Also the guy I know with a seeing eye dog, his dog is literally the purest, softest bean in existence!! She's super soft and only like 18 months old, and she always wears a pink bowtie!

@GoodThingGoing group

I see.

Was this an intentional pun?

No.
I just say that a lot.

Oh, cool!
Which is basically my irl catchphrase because I never know how to respond to stuff

@Jay-Marae-is-in-an-emotional-maze

OK so I have a question directed towards blind people because I've heard this but not everything you hear is true and this might be helpful. Can you tell who you are talking to through touch and hearing?
