You know makes my world confusing? West is north and east is south. Not sure what I was thinking. So when I say eastern dragon I mean southern dragon.

Anyway, there are two types of dragons in Medeis. You have the western dragons that look more like wyverns. These guys are considered a race as they're (somewhat) intelligent. Then you have the eastern dragons which are more like animals and look like classic dragons.
The eastern dragons are called that because Medeis is as far west as one can go and so during winter the eastern dragons will migrate east to unknown lands. They are the only creature that makes any sort of journey away from Medeis aside from some birds. Medeins don't know this but during the brutal winters, they will travel to the hot continents nearer to the equator to restore their energy (these dragons don't breathe fire). When they are in Medeis they are there for pretty much all of summer which is a really long season there.

Okay so migratory reasons. There is a giant desert continent called Alanis. It's pretty barren but the dragons rely on the hot sand to lay their eggs. There isn't really any food there so they live off of fish and small reptiles. So when the winter that they couldn't possibly survive passes on Medeis they make the journey there. The minerals they require are found there and food is abundant. Their young (that ride their parents on the journey there) grow quickly and become strong enough to fly back on their own. Those that can't are usually left behind.

Eastern dragons don't grow very big, maybe a little bigger than horses given their long necks, tails and wings. Dragon hide and meat is actually quite common on Medeis and people will hunt dragons during summer. They're dangerous to hunt obviously and only the most skilled can take them on. They are also not very aggressive and know not to attack civilisations but will steal livestock. There are also some trophy hunters but since any resources are so valuable in both continents it's frowned upon. If you kill a dragon, you harvest it and eat the meat.

Right I just wanted to share my dragons. Consider this me thinking aloud
