Hey, this isn't me asking how to write demons, this is me asking you how you write your specific demons in your books! I'm genuinely curious, and it would be an honor to hear some ideas from you guys, and I would love to give you guys some of my own!

raises hands I got this

How I write Demons?

Well to put it simply: I make them very traditional. And no, not the lust-crazed, totally bat wild Demon (there are a few of those, though). I'm talking about gentle, mate-wanting, slow lovers, gentle Demons. They are very open and talkitive about themselves, and very polite. They dislike Humans only because of how they act towards each other, depending on random things like a plant, ot a drink for a release. While they talk to each other and express themselves. They're quite peaceful bois too.

Interesting! What kind of features do you give them, as for appearance and powers, and weaknesses, and personality traits? I recognize that not all demons are alike, and then fax making all of your demons too alike can actually get pretty tiresome, but like… In general I guess

They're pretty much all different like us Humans, but their facial features are almost always sharper, and their bodies, no matter the gender, are always curvier and at an hourglass-like shape. Their powers are basically that they can fly. Personality traits vary by Demon.

That's a really cool thing to think about!
In my serious, all demons are humanoid, if a little monsters. There are things like hellbeasts, which they use as mounts, trackers, and offense.

I'm coming up with the seven princes of hell, for my new series, and each one is going to be based on one of the top seven human fears!

@SaltyLasagna

I write demons almost exactly like humans. Most demons in my books have adopted human lives because of how demons have been treated in the past. They do it because living as a human is much easier and less complicated for them, and they have a lot more freedom.
Demons who don't adopt human lives usually end up following Lucifer.
As for appearance, they usually have the ability to take on the form of the most dominant/powerful species in the area. Their true form develops based on their own experiences and the species they feel the most themselves in.
Asura, for example, takes the form of a lion. Sort of. He's not just a regular lion, he's a gigantic lion with wings and 42 eyes, but still sort of a lion

Hmm, well, I like to write demons simply as spirits. In the mortal world they can manifest themselves in various forms (animals, plants, objects…) but in the end I guess my take on them is comparable to classic ghosts, but invariably evil. Oh, but writing them as people is fun. You get some of the best creepy one-liners. I also enjoy getting creative with their 'true form.' Long horns, faceless, eyeless…I suppose I make it different every time.

It's traditional to our general way of life. Like they're polite to each other, they keep their hands to themselves, have well-balanced diets…

Also my religion in my universe is somewhat very different, so…

It's hard to explain it unless you RP with me with one or something. It's unclear what I said 😅

Yea, kinda. I haven't watched Lucifer so… I don't know what you mean at all.

Extremely violent, lust crazed, loves to torture people in hell
Also she's hot
And I'm really gay for her

I haven’t written demons too much. They tend to vary from universe to universe in my writing.

I’ll take an example. The demons in one of my universes are a mixed few, but a lot of them are extremely intelligent, and mostly biased on their opinion of ‘Surface Dwellers’. Surface Dwellers meaning humans. There’s many different classes of demons, too.
We have the Sijiqy, meaning ‘Savage’. The demons have other demons who they might consider lower of their society. The Sijiqy I write usually as savages, but like the rest of the demons, they need food, and they’re just living life how they see it as. They’re not necessarily bad, they just took a different path from the demons. The Sijiqy are also always in their true forms.

There’s the demons with the highest population, the Crasl, meaning Crown. The Crasl often take on forms similar to humans but they each have a true form that is usually different from each others.

There’s also many other demons, but I sort of write them similar to humans in certain aspects (as to how some humans see the world as black and white, demons do too, sometimes) and there are extremely different aspects such as culture. In no way did I make the majority of my demons peaceful (though in their culture, fighting in day to day life is seen as pretty normal) but there are a few Crasl and others classes of demons choosing to go and live life on the Surface.
It’s a concept I’m hoping to work on.

@EternallyEris

Technically, if you guys want to get specific, traditional demons would be like Pazuzu, or Vishnu, or the spirits of War of the colored areas in Greek myths!

Whoa whoa whoa. Hold up I've got to step in here.

  1. Pazuzu, although called a demon in Mesopotamian actually protected humans from misfortune. It wasn't until the movie the Exorcist that the name/ creature had a negative connotation.
  2. Vishnu is one of the principal deities of Hinduism, and the Supreme Being or absolute truth in its Vaishnavism tradition….not a demon????
