The summer reading program for one of my libraries is a bingo thing, but I'm too dumb to do anything other than the one that's mostly reader's choice, so my tbr for this month is

  • The Sky Blues by Robbie Couch
  • Graduation Day by Joelle Charbonneau
  • The Other Wes Moore by Wes Moore
  • May the Best Man Win by ZR Ellor
  • Some Girls Do by Jennifer Dugan

Half of which are queer but I'm pretty excited about the others. I guess
I also need to finish A Dragon's Guide to Making Your Human Smarter by Laurence Yep and Joanne Ryder
And Of Curses & Kisses by Sandhya Menon

oooo i've got the nature of witches and witches steeped in gold on my tbr

I'm currently reading Witches Steeped in Gold. I'm kinda having troubles getting into it, but I'm not super far into it yet so I'm hoping things will pick up. I've had really bad luck with books this year so I'm really hoping it gets better.

Finished Graduation Day and picked up Beach Read again so I think my tbr is going to be more flexible than I was hoping this is why I don't ever make monthly tbrs lmao

oh dear. i hope i have an easier time, ive been so hyped for it. is it slow, or just not your cup of tea in some way?

@GoodThingGoing group

I have a bunch of queer books out right now and I'm hoping to make good progress before July (since I'll be gone for most of it and don't want to take library books with me)
Hoping to get The Chosen and the Beautiful soon

I can't quite place what it is exactly. Like I feel like there's a lot of terminology that hasn't quite been explained and I feel like I don't really know what's going on. But I'm also only like 4-5 chapters in so there's lots of time for things to change.

Okay, I got One Last Stop today so that's now my whole tbr
I did start May the Best Man Win and I'm really liking it so far
The Sky Blues is kind of rubbing me the wrong way. The main characters are creepy and aware of it, but not in the "them being creepy is the point" kind of way, they just laugh off the fact that they're stalking this kid and it's just supposed to be fine

If anyone wanted an update on this, I ended up DNF'ing this. I was going to try to push through at lest 50%, but I was really not enjoying it and figured that probably wouldn't magically change just because I made to the halfway point.
I wrote out a full review on goodreads but the main things that didn't work for me were:

  • The POVs were too similar to each other
  • A weird amount of info dumping, but I somehow still didn't know what was going on?
  • The plot moved about as quickly a very tired sloth.
  • I'm not really a big fan of glossaries in fiction books, but this one probably should have had one

Anyways, if anyone was wanting to read this book, don't let my opinions deter you. It looks like lots of people still enjoyed it, and apparently the second half is better. Just wasn't for me, I guess.
