Ember shrugged and leaned back all the way against the tree watching him eat the little fruit, "hm. Do you ever wish you weren't l like this… Did you ever want to be like everyone else?" She asked sincerely, the truth was she hated being like this she hated the medicine she had to take and the glass display box she lived in she hated not having a place she could call home, because all she had was that damn box.

Kin pauses, then slowly nods. “Sadly…yes…I have…” He sighs, “And…” He pauses, then shakes his head. No. He wouldn’t speak of such sad things to this poor girl. He didn’t want to give anyone ideas either. Even as someone so young, he did not want to cause more sadness. He knew better than that.

(Ikr- same XD its okay tho)

Kin shakes his head. “I’d prefer to not say.” He says softly, “Out of respect for all of you. My apologies.” He fidgets with the scrubs he was in. He sighs softly. He felt bad for even saying anything in the first place.

Bane had cut the deer up, mostly cutting out a loin and flank. That should be enough for now. If they were still hungry, he could always cook more. The hound stood, walking to the edge of the forest. He picked up a stick, going back to where he worked. The hound stuck the tip of the stick into the fire, burning off any bacteria. Using his knife, he cut the venison into thin strips, draping a few over the stick. He held it over the fire, letting the thin strips cook for 15 seconds. Even if it were undercooked, it would still be okay to eat. All their stomachs would digest it. Bane placed the cook meat onto the biggest leaf he found. "I tried my best, but it is difficult to eat in the wilderness." He was covered in deer blood. Frowning, wiped his bloodied hands on the grass.

Kin smiles and nods. “Thank you.” He takes a small amount of meat and takes a bite, smiling and muttering something. This was probably the biggest meal he’s had in a long time. He hums softly and closes his eyes, relaxing. He’d forgotten how filling just a few bites of real food could be. The ‘food’ he was fed kept him weak and always wanting more. But this…this was real food. This was what his body needed.

Kin sighs with content, leaning back and crossing his legs. He looks to Bane, “Thank you again.”

Bane dipped his head. This was his way of saying you're welcome. He didn't eat anything himself. Instead, he sprawled out on the ground. He hadn't laid on the soft grass in forever, and he hoped it never changed. "Night is approaching. Obelisk is less likely to search the night than day. Do you want to continue on foot or rest?" A thought tugged at the back of Bane's mind. His father kept in contact with Obelisk. After all, he traded his son away to be experimented on. Surely he was going to be a bloodhound for those humans. He shook his head, not letting it get to him. Bane didn't want the others to see his worry. After all, if his composure broke — what would it do to the group?

Kin hums, “We should rest. Get some strength back. Besides, Ember is tired.” He yawns, “And so am I…” He rubs his eyes, seeming to look younger then he was when he did so. In his village, he would be still recognized as a baby. Or at least a toddler. Though for the staff at Obelisk, they thought differently.

Bane sat up smiling. “Alright. You two get some rest. I don’t need to sleep. My species is strange like.” He laughed softly. “So I’ll take night watch.” He fumbled with the necklace around his neck, worry seeing into his mind. He’ll need to watch for other hounds or vicious werewolves. If his father found them — No! He couldn’t think like that. Bane needed to stay strong. Obelisk couldn’t hurt him. They were mere humans while he was a strong minded hound. He could fight them off if needed. They could barley touch him. But, no matter how much Bane hyped himself up, the anxiety still came back, festering within his brain.

Kin slowly started dozing off, leaning into Ember and holding her close. Almost protectively. He was so tired. Yet he already knew what would happen in a few hours. And he just hoped he wouldn’t wake anyone.

Bane watched over the two kiddos. He looked into the fire. It crackled and popped, burning the wood quickly. He stood up, stretching. Bane wandered to the edge of the forest, collecting more sticks to drop within the first. Looking up, the sky bled black, little dots glittering in the sky. Night had arrived. He returned to the fire, placing the new sticks in the pile. The night would be rough, the morning worse. Bane could only hope to protect the teens throughout the night. But if Father came, they would lose quickly. Shaking his head, he huffed in frustration. He needed to stop telling himself these things. Instead, he busied himself with useless activities to clear his mind.

Ember never ate anything, not that she wasn't tempted because it smelt amazing, but she was too tired and she was never fed solid food so she was worried about what exactly this was. She flinched slightly as Kin leaned against her she had been staring at the fire she didn't even know they were talking she fought sleep for as long as she could but Kin wasn't lying when he said he gave off heat, it was hard to keep her eyes open. She leaned against the boy her eyes landing on Bane, her eyes glowing slightly due to the reflection of the fire. She finally fell asleep after a minute or two of silence, she felt safe in kin's arms. It was a cute sight to see a wear wolf and a cat- sleeping under a tree together, this would be one of embers most uncomfortable sleep's ever. But at least she was free.

(I'm not sure if this is readable I just woke up 😭)

(XD same-)

Kin nestles close to Ember. In all honesty, this was probably his best nights sleep. He hardly had any nightmares. It was only up until around 4 am when he started whimpering softly in his sleep. Oh great. Here were the nightmares.

Kin held onto Ember, shaking slightly. Flashes of needles, bright lights, scalpels. Than his parents. Oh those traders! Images of them giving Kin away ran through his mind. Soon, Kin was in tears, but still asleep. He whimpered and shook, sobbing in his sleep.

Kin eventually jolts awake, looking around. He looks to Bane, then Ember, then sighs in relief. At least he was safe…at least it wasn’t a dream. He’s okay. Kin looks to Bane, then whispers. “Why don’t you rest?”

Bane sat around the fire, watching it closely. Sooner or later, he would need to stomp it out. But for now, he sat around the fire, whittling a large chunk of wood. He seemed bored, a manifested tail wrapped around his person. He peered up at Ember and Kin, staring at the teens. Wasn’t that cute. Even if he didn’t understand affection, he still understood they were close. Bane smiled. However, it faded when Kin started to shake. “Kid.” His voice filled the silence. Keeping his hands busy, he shaved away chunks of bark, watching Kin jolt awake. This calmed the hound. He had worried about the two. Neither seemed fit to survive out in the wild, even if Kin knew how to survive the wild, he was still young. Bane shook his head, staring Kin in the eyes. Rest? He couldn’t. He shifted. “I can’t rest. I don’t need to anyway. It would only result in incessant frustration.” He sighed. Did he have trouble sleeping? Yes.

Rather than focusing on his own issues, Bane noticed Kin's tears stained face. "Are you okay?" He laid the wood chunk in the grass, placing his umbra knife next to it. "You seem to be having a rough time, as well. Why don't draw closer to the fire? It's warm." The hound was inviting the kid into his space.

Kin blinks, then looks to Ember. He smiles and nods, slowly bringing himself, and Ember closer to the fire. He holds her close, hiding his face in her hair. He would stay awake for the rest of the night. But at least he felt safe.
